Description

Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday chateau / country house in Shaftsbury

5 Beds, 3.5 Baths. Sleeps 10-12. Mountain Views, And Acres To Explore.

This historical house was built in the 1760s and has not lost an ounce of its original charm. Enormous screened in porch, six fireplaces, 14 acres, original hardwoods, and other detail from the 1700s, a sauna on the porch, many cozy spots to play games, catch up on reading, roast marshmallows, etc.... The house has been the host of many reunions and get togethers for over 20 people. 5 bedrooms in addition to an aero bed and a comfy couch. People always have big plans to go tubing on the battenkill, kayaking at lake shaftsbury, ziplining at bromley or fly fishing, hiking, or outlet shopping in manchester. But more times than not, they rarely leave the house all weekend. It's just that peaceful.

There is one master bedroom on the 1st floor and four bedrooms upstairs. The kitchen is huge. And there's a living room, dining room (game room) and den.

About Owner/Manager

I currently live in upstate New York. Due to some health problems, I haven't been able to get to the house as much as I like this year, so I am giving this a try. It's my favorite place to be in the world.

Owner/Manager purchased this chateau / country house in 2005

Beautiful home, rich in history. Accomodations were prefect for our large family weekend.

  • 5 of 5

Everything in the house was perfect. The large back porch was where we spent almost all of our time the entire weekend. Plenty of seating and sleeping for our big family. Recommend the house highly. Thank you Michelle for accommodating us.

Perfect for our family reunion.

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our family reunion of 10 people. The setting is lovely and the historic house is so charming. We loved the bright and spacious kitchen and the large screened in porch. Beautiful views of the mountains and valley. We enjoyed short walks to the Chocolate Barn for ice cream and Clearbrook Farm for fresh fruits and vegetables. It was a great summer weekend!

New Years

  • 5 of 5

The trip could not have been more perfect. There were 10-14 guests and there was more than enough room for everyone. We celebrated the new year by playing board games and cooking in the spacious kitchen. This house has a lot of history and everyone was thoroughly impressed. It being on a main road was not a concern at all, more so convenient than anything. I was concerned about having to find things to do since ski conditions weren't up to par but we amused ourselves in the cozy classic home. Spent one of the days in Manchester which is just 20 mins away. The owner Michelle put a lot of work in to provide information to the travelers about the area. There was everything from menus to reviews in a binder at the house. She even had a recommended weekend itinerary. Everyone had a blast and I am so happy how everything worked out. Only down side was water pressure was low, however that did not stop us from enjoying ourselves. Absolutely going to rent again.

We loved this wonderful house!

  • 5 of 5

Everyone of our guests that were staying here for our daughter's wedding absolutely loved the charm and character of this beautiful home! It worked out great for the occasion! Thank you Michelle, for getting right back to me each time I had a question. Thank you Alyson for stopping by to help find and set up the extra aero bed! You've done an awesome job as the care-taker of this place. It was a delight to meet you and such a pleasure staying 2 nights in this lovely, historic home.

Good times with good friends, provided by a nice owner!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a long summer weekend with a bus trip to the Saratoga Racetrack. Bus took around an hour but was such a great time ! There was a large group of about 12-14 of us. There was plenty of space inside the house itself to sleep. (Much to our surprise after viewing the pictures online.) We hung outside and in the screened in porch which was great. The kitchen was a lot larger than we thought and had everything we needed. There was plenty of space to park outside and hangout. Large washer/dryer was a plus. The owner was a big help! She responded very quickly to my last second emails of questions that I had. Although it's located on a highway it definitely is not noisy and is very peaceful and quiet. All in all ..... a great getaway !!!!
