Why Minnette LeBlanc, Owner, Miu Wong, Bookkeeper chose Brooklyn

This is a large house in the City, but the sun, river air and terrace garden make it feel like the country. It is private and quiet - for New York - restful, out of the way, even though it is near the Williamsburg Bridge, and within 2 blocks of all the area action!

What makes this apartment unique

Fresh breeze drifts in from the river - there are north and south windows! The terrace allows you to step outside for a quiet meal, or just to relax in the sun and fresh air. It's also great to walk around the corner early in the morning for espresso and newspapers At Marlow, and sit at sidewalk tables and meet your neighbors! 2 blocks away is the Ferry on the East River, and Bedford Avenue, epicenter of the area, with every type of shop, bar, gallery or restaurant. World class food, film, and music venues are just blocks away, and it's safe to walk at all hours.

Nice but need to know a few things.

  • 2 of 5

Beautiful building in a great part of Brooklyn but if you want to sleep at night forget it. Right next to the train - when cab driver dropped us off he chuckled about how noisy it was. Train and Traffic over bridge was very loud and each night there were people hanging out under bridge around 3:30.... long nights. We were visiting our child who lives in the area and they only stayed one night due to the noise.

Bathroom was clean but very tight not ideal for a vacation get away. No curtain over window in shower....

Cable for TV didn't work so the one night we wanted to stay in and watch things was a bit of a bummer.

Amenities in kitchen - bagels were in freezer, milk/cream for coffee in a can. Would have preferred to not even have that included as part of the description as it was disappointing.

Great location but with some caveats

  • 3 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for a week and we felt there were some pros and cons that you might want to consider before staying here.

PROS:

- Great location near lots of excellent bars and restaurants. A grocery store a block away. A block from river and a few blocks to river taxi that is a fun way to get over to Manhattan if weather is decent.

- Old, quaint apartment with nice terrace with pleasant view over rooftops.

- Friendly, cooperative hosts.

- Generally easy to find street parking or affordable garages nearby.

- Walk to subway wasn't too bad, or it's a quick UBER ride.

CONS

- The apt. is right across from elevated subway line that shares Manhattan Bridge. There are fewer trains at night but still, there was a fairly constant rumbling that made it a little tough to sleep.

- Bathroom a bit tight.

- We had a biting bug issue. Host said it was mosquitos.

Overall, I would say you are getting what you pay for.

Owner's Response: Dear John, Thanks for commenting. but I hope you were reviewing the right apartment - we are near the Williamsburg Bridge, not the Manhattan!......It's true, occasionally, people from smaller towns do take a little time to adjust to the City sounds and rhythm, but the good news is, we have had no concerns from any other guests, and we are not near sources of fire, ambulance or police sirens, discos, or other all night noise sources, which are common in all neighborhoods - just the East River, and the occasional lumbering train, as you said......The rear terrace is lovely to enjoy, especially in the evening, but one does need to keep the apartment screen door closed, in case there are mosquitos that evening. There is no possibility that your bites could come from anything else in the apartment, as the apartments and linens are meticulously cleaned, protected and monitored. ...It was considerate of you to offer this balanced view of "pros" and "cons" , as you said. Perhaps potential guests will further balance their evaluations by reading other reviews for this and our 2 other guest units in the building, placed by people whom we can verify were reviewing the right unit.

Splendid

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a splendid stay in the Atelier. I rather enjoyed the Parisian feel of the apartment and the sunny terrace full of birds. The apartment is clean tidy, well equipped and very comfortable. Minnette is a very gracious host who made sure we had a very pleasant time away from home. Can't wait to visit soon!

Terrific apartment

  • 5 of 5

I visited New York for the first time in June, for a week. I liked it so much, I came back in October for almost a month.

I stayed in the Atelier apartment for most of that time, and it was perfect! The rooms were large and beautifully furnished. The suite seemed to have everything I needed for my stay, and if there was anything I did require, my host Minnette promptly took care of it. Her staff Maria, Lupe, Melvin and Miu were friendly and professional.

The terrace off the kitchen is surrounded by trees, which were full of birds. The walkable neighborhood has everything you could need including great restaurants, bars, funky little independent stores and wine shops. There is a large grocery store called Urban Market of Williamsburg that has everything you could possibly want to make your own meals, just two blocks away.

The M, J, Z and L subway lines are a 10-15 minute walk away, and you are in Manhattan in just minutes. The apartment is two blocks from the East River where the view of Manhattan is stunning, especially at night.

I now consider the Atelier apartment my home in New York, and can’t wait until my next visit to this amazing city!

Great place with terrace!

  • 5 of 5

Although it was not my first time in the house, it was my first visit in the Atelier. And it was terrific! Beautiful furnished and decorated, comfortable, very light and a gorgeous terrace.

If NYC wouldn’t be so attractive, there would be no need at all to leave the house. From the terrace there is a great opportunity for bird watching.

The red cardinal, lots of sparrows, sparlings and doves are regular visitors. Amazing sunrises and sunsets.

The neighborhood is hip and attractive, good restaurants, cafes, shops, etc. The subway is not far away and the neighborhood feels save when coming home late. Renting a bike and driving through Brooklyn and Bushwick is fun.

Minnette, the host, made me feel home immediately. I’ll definitely be back!

Appartement parfait pour un séjour tranquille

  • 5 of 5
