Peace Lodge - Hand-Hewn Log Cabin In The Woods

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,100 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

Two night minimum stay.

Bordering the Manistee National Forest, this property is unlike anything else you'll find. It's a rustic piece of history preserved in a quaint setting. Get away for a week relaxing at a log cabin in the woods away from the stress of everyday life.

You'll find a peaceful place to restore your soul.

Nestled in the region of the Manistee National Forest...

Curl up by the field stone fireplace or the outdoor hammock with a good book...

Take a long walk in the national forest which borders the property...

Or spend a quiet afternoon fishing on the lake nearby...

Reminiscent of Abraham Lincoln's birthplace, this hand-hewn log cabin dates back to the early 1800's. The log cabin was originally built in northern Indiana by pioneer settlers from Pennsylvania. Over the years, the logs were covered up with clapboard siding and this preserved them for years.

In 1970, another pastor bought the logs and relocated it in its present location in northern Newaygo County. The log portion of the cabin has a great room with two bedrooms upstairs. About twenty years later, he added a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/dining room. In 1994, we bought the cabin and have enjoyed many summers relaxing and enjoying the peace and solitude. We've enjoyed the lake-access privileges on the quiet non-sports, no-wake private fishing lake nearby.

You will need to provide your own bed linens and towels. Blankets and pillows are provided. The beds include one queen sized bed in the master room and four twin beds upstairs in the log cabin. (There is also a queen sized sofa bed available, too, though it's not the most comfortable to sleep on. It will do in a pinch.)

FYI: This cabin is about one hour from Lake Michigan and Ludington State Park has a beautiful clean beach to spend a day.

Check in at 3:00 pm

Check out by noon.

Pets are welcome for an additional $50/pet fee.

Peace and Quiet!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed staying here because it was peaceful and quiet. Looking to get away from it all, this is the place. It has everything you need. Than was a great host, called to see if we made it and contact him if anything was needed. There was even dog bowls put out for our dogs, Nice Touch.

A wonderful place to get lost in the woods!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful little cabin the Peace Lodge is.

Nestled back in the woods, it's a great escape from noise and daily life. It was also easily within reach of many vacation activities. Canoeing, fishing, and hiking were nearby and towns on the Lake Michigan coast were short drive away. The lodge was cool, comfortable, and quiet. The host, Nathan, gave us good information on the area to get us jump started on our stay. The cabin is rough and basic, but in good shape and easy to live in. The older, hand-hewn, part of the cabin is an amazing bit of history and it was great to spend time imagining the work that must have gone into building it.

We all enjoyed our stay very much and would do it again.

Beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

Came out from Chicago for a weekend vacation with my girlfriend. The place was fantastic, really beautiful cabin. There was plenty of firewood provided and the kitchen had everything we needed to prep a few great meals. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a cozy, private getaway location. Thanks!

Peaceful weekend in the woods

  • 5 of 5

I rented the Peace Lodge for a weekend in November for my girlfriends birthday. We live in Chicago, and my girlfriend had never even been to Michigan before ,so I thought it would be the perfect choice. The cabin is truly amazing, the second I opened the door I was in awe. The cabin has such a great rustic smell and feeling to it. We brought our beagle Harvey with us for the trip, he loved roaming around in the woods and exploring the trails in the National Forest.

We loved the fireplace in the great room, and we enjoyed sitting by the fire pit outside of the cabin. The owner was very kind, and had more than enough firewood for us to use. Overall, we were very pleased, and would definitely stay here again in the future! Thank you for making my first VRBO experience great!
