Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Lake City - Dove Cottage

2 Bedroom, 2 bath cottage on edge of Osceola Forest, ATV Trails closeby!

Dove Cottage invites you to the forest, and to a time of good neighbors, country roads and peace and quiet.

Located in the Mt. Carrie area, just east of Lake City, Dove Cottage is about 8 miles from Lake City Airport, 11 miles from Olustee Battlefield, ten miles from the VA and downtown, about 60 miles from the Jacksonville Beach, and 100 miles from St. Augustine. Oh, yes... bout 200 miles from Orlando.

This delightful cottage is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, A-Frame home that sleeps up to 6, with additional sleeping areas available, if needed. Since its' back yard is the Osceola Forest, deer and wild turkey are frequently seen, and trails behind the house wind for miles into the forest, complete with many small lakes and one large one, Ocean Pond closeby.

It comes fully furnished, including; all furniture, kitchen pots, pans, dishes, linens, sheets, towels. All you need to bring is your clothes. It also has satellite TV and Internet and a 50 inch flat screen TV and a 32 inch in the upstairs bedroom. There's also a propane fireplace inside, as well as a firepit and grill outside.

Osceola Estates, a small country community of about 45 homes that sit in a niche that is carved out of the Osceola National Forest. Hunting, fishing, hiking, birding and ATVing are very popular.

Downstairs is a living, dining, kitchen, a front and back deck (screened in), one bedroom and bath. Upstairs is one bedroom and bath, and has a screened in deck on the front.

The downstairs bedroom has a queen size bed, and bath has a tub/shower combo, and the upstairs bedroom has four twins that can be setup as a two California kings, or four extra-long twins, and has a walk-in shower. There is also a mother-in-law cottage that if you would like to rent it for a larger group, can be setup for extra sleeping.

You will have a full kitchen, with a propane stove, microwave, coffeepot, and such, with seating for up to 4, plus extra dishes if you want to setup a picnic outside and such. The upstairs bedroom has a 32 inch flat screen TV. The living room has a 48 inch flat screen TV.

It's very peaceful and quiet out here. I love it, particularly in the fall and winter. Summer brings lots of mosquitoes and is not the perfect time unless you plan on staying inside a lot, that's why I charge less then.

We have central air and heat, but also have the propane fireplace, if you'd like to have a fire. There's also lots of bird seed here if you'd like to put it out for the birds. We frequently have the Palliated woodpecker in the yard as well as the occasional hawk and egret. Once in a while there will be rabbits, possum and raccoon. And, if you are an early riser, the deer are in the yard pretty much everyday about 5am.

Dove Cottage also has 4 bikes for guests use. They are simple Huffy 26 inch bikes, specially selected for dirt roads, and few mechanics, so that most anyone can ride them. If you are larger, or smaller framed, you might want to bring your own.

Rate shown includes 6, $10 per night for each additional person.

Pets are welcome for a $30 extra fee. We provide a welcome kit for our furry guests that includes treats, toy and poop bags.

About Sharon Romine

About The Owners; Hi Folks, This is Sharon Romine, and husband, Cecil Romine. This is Dove Cottage, our cabin at the Edge of the Woods Since I manage vacation rentals in Sitka, Alaska, we live in Florida in the winter and summer in Alaska. We love the fall and winter here in the forest. I love the morning mist through the forest, the deer, the birds. Love to have you as a neighbor. Our house is right down the road, so we look forward to having you as neighbors!

Why Sharon Romine chose Florida North Central Gulf Coast

If you are looking to get away to peace and quiet, this is it. Deer visit daily, and frequently wild turkey come trotting across the lawn. This is real country..

The Osceola forest has many ATV trails, free for using. Hunting and fishing are very popular and we frequently see deer and turkey in our yard.

What makes this cottage unique

Get away to the forest. Daily walks in the forest, atv trails to ride, horseback riding is welcome, too. Great neighbors, real country folks.

Dove Cottage

This property met our expectations. We wanted a central location in northern Florida that we could use as a home base to explore that area. It is out of town and very quiet. The home included everything we needed. We had a sweet treat waiting for us when we got there. We met Sharon, her husband CH, and Linda who takes care of any problems. We enjoyed visiting with all of them. There were deer and turkeys roaming through the property. The beds were especially comfortable and we enjoyed good nights of sleep. We will use this home again if we return to northern Florida.

Quiet getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a great visit! The house was very comfortable, and had everything we could have possibly needed. We had fun hiking the trails out back with our dogs, as well as driving to some of the nearby portions of the Florida Trail. The peace and quiet out in the woods was fantastic, and the number of stars visible on a clear night is incredible. Highly recommended!

Christmas Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay Christmas week. The house had Christmas decorations and a nice Christmas tree. Everything you could need was made available in the kitchen and throughout the house. Really felt like home. Sharon left us freshly baked muffins and sent us candied popcorn and homemade candy during our stay. Very attentive and kind owners. Lake City was 30 minutes away and had decent restaurants and supermarkets for all your needs.

Enjoyed some hiking and biking in nearby parks. Also lit up the camp fire and enjoyed one of the cool nights outdoors. The trails behind house were a little wet because of a couple days rain but they must be great to hike or ride ATV's. I'm Sure I'll enjoy next time.

PERFECT HOLIDAY!! Peaceful & Family Pleasing - ATV Trails, Fishing, Shooting, Nature and Stargazing

  • 5 of 5

We'd been looking for a place where ATV trails were close by. We found it - the secret is out! Dove Cottage is smack dab in the middle of the forest. Everything we wanted was right there, (and we didn't have to rough it in a tent). Upon our arrival we were greeted by the neighbor and made to feel like family. The cottage was cozy & clean with plenty of room for the whole family. We fished, rode our ATV's, shot the guns and enjoyed an unspoiled starry sky. The forest has tons of ponds full of hungry fish, a free outdoor gun range that was great for practice and we had a blast driving through the forest trails. The kids loved the visit to the battlefield. There were so many things to do and see, I wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be going back to this peaceful and private patch of nature at its finest.
