About Margie or Alana

We moved to Ireland in 2006 but fell in love with Kinsale in 2000. We are both educators, Alana at the doctoral level is a PhD professor and mentor and Margie works with younger learners. We own and manage our rental apartment and love being active locally. Alana grew up in Denver, Colorado and Margie was born and raised in San Francisco, California. We come from large extended families and love to play, travel and explore as well as work and participate in our local community.

Margie or Alana purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Margie or Alana chose Kinsale

We purchased this property because of its location. We wished to have an apartment for family visitors as well as for paying guests. Over 1100 people have stayed in the apartment since we opened our apartment as a 'home away from home' ten years ago in March 2006.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is homey, exceptionally clean and very well fitted, in particlar the kitchen and living room amenities. It has all the extras of a home - wifi, books, dvds, satellite tv, stereo, fireplace and games as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wow! What a relaxing visit and wonderful town. The apartment was compact and had everything we needed.

Highlight of our trip. Great homey apartment

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic rental! Highly recommend this lovely apartment. You just walk in and every thing you need is there and you feel at home. The owner, Margie has gone to great lengths to give you every thing you would want in a rental. It is decorated beautifully, the linens were lovely high quality. There were DVD's and books, cookies and wine upon our arrival. The appliances were also high quality. And, you are not going to find a better location in Kinsale! A short walk to EVERYTHING. We had such a good time, we were so sad to leave and move on to our next rental in a different area. We have rented 3 cottages this trip (our fourth) and this surpasses any rental, we have ever had. Margins attention to detail is astounding, she even leaves you a cell phone to use while there. I highly recommend this to all. You will miss out if you don't choose this apartment.

Great Experience

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for the month of November 2015, and it was a great experience. The apartment is well located and fully stocked; close to everything in town, in walking distance. Kinsale is a special place, and we used it as a base to go all over SW Ireland, as far as the Cliffs of Moher. Margie, the landlord, couldn't have been nicer, and did all she could to improve our stay. We spent 2 nights in Killarney to explore the town, and go horseback riding in the National Park; also went on a jaunting car ride in the park. Explored the Dingle Peninsula and Ring of Kerry. Also, Blarney Castle and Rock of Cashel (including the nearby ruins of a monastery, which few tourists seem to know about). Another great ruins was the monastery at Timoleague, ate at a charming pub called Monk's Lane. Best pub in Kinsale was the Folkhouse, best restaurant was Fishy Fishy. We recommend Margie's apartment to everyone.

Owner's Response: Thanks for sharing of your experience of our apartment along with the details of your favorite hot spots during your month stay. These specifics provide ideas to future guests of the many possibilities of using Kinsale as a homey base for trips throughout the SW as well other parts of Ireland.

Christmas in Kinsale

  • 5 of 5

This review is long overdue (it wouldn't let me go back to 2012!), but every time Christmas rolls around I think about what was probably one of my best holidays in my 37 years. My mom and I flew from the US to Dublin a couple days before Christmas and then took a coach to Cork. The owner was gracious enough to pick us up at the bus station and drive us to Kinsale. What an experience! We put lights up in the window, battled the crowded store to buy our chicken and vegetables to roast, and enjoyed a peaceful (and wine-filled) Christmas by the fireplace. Lots of walks to the Tap Tavern and became well-known fixtures. When I went without my mom, they all tilted their heads and asked, "Where's Mum?" Lots of walks to Charles Fort and James Fort with stops at the pubs along the way. Beautiful town, country, and people.

I cannot tell you how often I think of this trip and how perfect and remarkable it was. It was exactly what I pictured in my mind's eye. We often talk about when the next time is we'll visit.

Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

Fondly,

Julie and Susie

Fabulous apartment

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a super time staying in Margie's lovely apartment. It is fabulously situated, close to everything in Kinsale, but still quiet and relaxing. The flat is very comfortable, and is extremely well equipped, with absolutely everything you could need for a relaxing stay. Margie was brilliantly helpful, and we can't recommend this apartment highly enough - we will definitely be going back.

The seaside town of Kinsale offers a variety of holiday adventures. Whether your pleasure is hiking, golfing, beach combing, boating, shopping, strolling along the harbour or dining and pubbing, Kinsale is Ireland's favourite holiday location and considered by many to be the culinary capital of Ireland. A 20 minute drive from Cork County International airport, or 30 minutes to Cork city centre, Kinsale allows visitors all the conveniences of the big city within a rural seaside environment. In the Kinsale area you can rent kayaks, sailboats, yachts, horses, bikes or golf equipment -- so come ready to relax, explore and play. Castles abound in Cork County as do standing stones and other historic monuments. National heritage sites with historical museums dedicated to emigration and the famine are within a 60-75 minute drive in Cobh and Skibereen. Blarney Castle and woolen mills are a 45 minute drive. Near Shannon airport is Bunratty Castle, winery and Folk Park, about a 2 1/2 hour drive.
