67’ of private waterfront on pristine, Thompson Lake, rated a “top 10” lake in Maine, Thompson Lake is in the top 5% of cleanest/clearest lakes in Maine. (It ranks 24 out of 410 lakes). Spring fed lake with views 35’ down, excellent fishing cold/warm species. 4426 acres of peaceful lake to enjoy wildlife such as loons, eagles, moose, etc… Many new upgrades including: new TV's and DVD players (cottage does not have cable/dish tv), high end memory foam/latex beds and linens, wood stove, newly painted themed rooms, fire pit and patio area. Lots of special touches like added up-lighting along the walkway and new crushed stone driveway to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The property is quiet and relaxing - if you are looking to "party" this isn't the be the best fit. Thompson Lake prides itself on a being different from other lakes like Sebago and Long that tend to attract a rowdier clientele. Come in April or May for top water salmon fishing on the lake or enjoy the full benefits of being on the water in high season June, July and August and September. Nothing beats the New England foliage season topped off with a wood stove or fire pit on cool nights in October. Rent a boat and take in the spectacular foliage from the water along with local treats such as apple picking and pumpkin pies.

Located just 2 1/4 hours from Boston & 45 minutes from Portland.

Grill, fire pit, screened porch, open deck and hammock. Amazing sunsets - west facing views. Full kitchen and bath, renovated in 2008 as well as an outdoor, enclosed shower.

Half acre lot with 900sqft, 3 bedrooms, sleep sofa and indoor/outdoor sitting/dining.

Great combination of “camp” and “modern home”. 5 minutes to Oxford casino, restaurants and entertainment. Rent a boat at the marina and visit the many coves and islands on the lake. I provide a kayak, canoe and relaxation station float (use at your own risk). Located directly across from the cottage, visit "The Outpost" by boat for beverages, pizza, ice cream and more! 2016 new docks with picnic area and dock mounted gas grill. Great swimming right out front your door! Pet friendly. Discounts available for repeat or multi-week renters.

NEW for 2017 - cedar log bed for the "lodge room" AND blueberry bushes and a cherry tree - pick some and enjoy (in season - cherry tree might not have fruit until 2018).

About Jeffrey Higgins

Hi Everyone!

Growing up, I always dreamed of having my own lakefront property and in September, 2014, finally purchased my dream retreat. I live in Boston and my family has roots in New England going back to the 1700's. I'm an avid fisherman and love being out on the water or relaxing on the deck with family and friends.

Jeffrey Higgins purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Jeffrey Higgins chose Oxford

This cottage is a great mix of camp and modern home. It offers the amenities to live comfortably without being high maintenance. The open concept floor plan, ability to sleep 8 with the sofa bed and seat 12+ inside and out gives you plenty of space to entertain and enjoy time with your crew. The views are amazing from your private deck, porch and dock. The location is great and quiet on a side road but only minutes to the casino and area shops and restaurants. With all the new upgrades, once you stay once, I know you will be coming back!

What makes this cottage unique

The private deck and screened porch overlooking the lake offer views of sunsets and eagles. These spaces along with the yard and fire pit overlooking the water are truly my favorite areas of the home, I hope you agree. An extra outdoor shower is an added bonus and a favorite with kids and pets. "Custom" rooms - "marina", "lodge" and "timber" with special touches and themes. New docks, April, 2016!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Booked a weekend through Jeff directly - we were one of the first renters since he took over the house. Amazing the changes from the original property - adding the night lighting around the deck, firepit area and the decor of the rooms really added to the house and grounds - the lake is awesome (though I didnt get that monster bass I was promised :) ). Highly recommend the place and look forward to another weekend this Fall. Well done, Jeff.

Peaceful retreat in a nice location

  • 5 of 5

Our stay on Thompson Lake in June was great. The house is what we envisioned for a waterfront lake home. The house is fully equipped with everything we needed. The property is located in a very nice, quiet part of the lake but also has shopping amenities within a short drive. The water of the lake is stunning, very clear! The owner is very helpful, keeping in touch to help with any needs.

Fantastic view and clear water

  • 4 of 5

Thompson Lake is a gorgeous lake, and the swimming was fabulous! Fishing... not so great. Jeff's camp was very comfortable, and fairly well stocked with household items. I bought a cheese grater and some washcloths to leave for anyone's use. The 3 bedrooms were very comfortable for 5 adults, but would have appreciated a 2nd bathroom, or 1/2 bath. Thank you Jeff for being so responsive to our needs.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review, Ann. Glad you had a great time - well, except for the fishing which is usually pretty good! Happy to see you appreciate the lake and the views - the water is great and as you know, the views are even better especially at sunset. In an ideal world I would love to have a second bathroom but most summer cottages only come with one. I added the outdoor shower a couple years ago which helps with showering and is very refreshing. Enjoy the rest of the summer and come back to Thompson Lake again next year. Best, Jeff

Lake Thompson Vacation - Return to Childhood after 25 Years

  • 5 of 5

I rented Jeff's camp from Aug. 13-20, 2016 with my partner and cannot say enough about how wonderful the accommodations were. You see, I spent the first 13 years of my life every summer at Lake Thompson with my family, renting a camp on Wardwell Island literally directly across the lake from Jeff's camp - or as my family called it "Brigg's Island." This was a special place for my entire family for 3 generations, so the goal for renting Jeff's camp was to return to my childhood and enjoy all the wonderful aspects of Lake Thompson - and I did just that, and much more. The camp is perfect for enjoying all the lake has to offer (clean water, sandy bottom, swimming, and exploring the lake on the canoe and kayak), and we saw not just one but three amazing sunsets sitting on Jeff's dock that stretches out into the water. The dock is perfect because it's stationary, so there's no floating over waves and knocking your wine over! Just take a couple of the ample Adirondack chairs onto the dock and you'll find yourself sitting there for coffee every morning, and wine every evening. The cottage itself is set on a hill so you get an amazing view of the lake from virtually every level, even at the kitchen sink! It has everything you need, but still gives you that "you're at camp" feel with the smell of pine, and a terrific breeze that comes through the quaint cottage windows. There is everything you need, including a hammock that is strategically placed so that you can lay back and see the lake, the dock, the fire pit, and it's within arm's reach of a permanently installed bottle opener. (Clearly Jeff has thought of everything!) And right around the corner from the hammock is the outdoor shower that is ideal for quickly cleaning up while continuing to enjoy the fresh Maine air. The space in the camp is perfect for just two, or as many as 8 with comfortable beds and ample common space. It is also ideal for entertaining, as I had my family over for a BBQ and easily accommodated 20 people (plenty of parking), and the gas grill is placed conveniently on the deck with easy access to the camp. The unique tree-bar (that's what I called it) was definitely a hit for a sunset dinner for two, and at night we sat on the screened-in porch and listened to the loons calling to each other. Bottom line - if you're looking for a relaxing, well-appointed, quintessential Maine camp experience, Jeff's place is ideal. We will definitely be back next year!

Great family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely stay! Cutest little cabin! So nice being right on the lake. My nephew learned how to swim. Took our kayaks out every day. It was really great feeling like you were in the middle of no where but still have things around! Had the best clam chowder at ricks cafe in Naples!! Would definitely stay again! Thanks Jeff!!

Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We have been going to Thompson Lake every year for the last 29 years and were devastated to learn last spring that the house we have always rented was no longer available for rent! We were so delighted to find this wonderful cabin. It is very charming and well-appointed for a classic lake vacation. It sits high above the lake with a screened-in porch and deck over looking a fire pit and a beautiful view of the lake. There is a new set of stairs that lead to the dock with a canoe and kayak, which we enjoyed. The master bedroom has a direct view to the lake as you wake, very special. There is an outdoor shower which we loved. There is not a lot of flat space for lawn games, but we managed to find a spot. The owner was very quick and happy to correct a very minor glitch! Lastly, I finally got to see "The King's Speech" thanks to the owner's collection and I thoroughly enjoyed the 60's floating lawn chair and can't wait to come back.
