Escape to our charming and quaint Maine cottage in the heart of beautiful South Bristol, Maine. You’re steps to the water and an easy stroll to the Lobsterman’s Co-op, Town boat Launch, local stores and cafes to get coffee and morning papers.
Our cottage has been completely renovated inside and we’ve done our best to make sure that everything you need for an escape to Maine is included. The living area and bedroom are bright and cheery with multiple skylights and updated amenities.
Enjoy a view of the harbor from classic Adirondack Chairs on the natural stone shelf patio behind the cottage. It's the perfect relaxation place to take in the sunset after a busy day of kayaking, boating and sightseeing.
South Bristol is a lovely working Lobster village just off the beaten path of the larger towns of Maine. Our cottage is the PERFECT place to call home while you visit Christmas Cove, Damariscotta or other Mid Coast destinations. Freeport and Portland are just over an hour and the alluring town of Wiscasset (Red’s Eats!) is only a half hour drive away.
Other amenties include:
Outside gas grill
wood burning stove
Jill and I have been coming to South Bristol and Christmas Cove every Summer for over 20 years. Jill's family has been coming to South Bristol for over forty years. We've been dreaming of owning a home in the area, and in 2014 made that dream a reality. We have two kids and a dog named Hank. We spend the rest of our year in Virginia.
Todd Watts purchased this cottage in 2014
We hope that you feel completely at home in the cottage. We were attracted to the location because it was in the heart of the village, overlooking 'The Gut', but still felt private. The cottage is part of the same property as the little Victorian house next door. We are working on the Victorian this year and hope to have it ready to rent out for 2016.
The cottage is classic Mid Coast Maine. perfect for a couple or even a young family. The skylights allow that perfect Maine Summer sun into the house, making this little cottage bright and cheery.
Make sure you spend time sitting in the Adirondack chairs on the back ledge. The ledge will serve as your patio and offers a nice view of where the Damariscotta River flows out into the open ocean. Just lovely.
We hope that you enjoy the house as much as we do. If we can help make your stay better in any way, let us know.
Todd and Jill Watts
This sweet little vacation spot is all the Todd and Jill Watts proclaim it to be. The Portland airport is very easy to get in and out of and just a short drive, maybe 45 minutes; just enough time to unwind from your flight and arrive to one of the cutest and cleanest little cottages out there. Nestled in the heart of the quaint little village of South Bristol, where you will find that fresh, whole Maine lobster, just off the boat, is sold for the best price in the area a brief walking distance from home; they will even cook it for you. I even had lobster for breakfast with over-easy eggs--delicious!
If your phone doesn't have GPS, be sure to get one in your rental car. There are so many places to go, see, do. I chose a different direction every day. They are not hard to find, but there was great freedom knowing I had my GPS and could take any random country road and always find home. Most of the little villages are about 1/2 hour drive, located along the fingers of coves and bay. Sweet destinations, providing lots of nice restaurants; many offer pleasant patio dining overlooking harbor views.
After dining, explore the many gift shops offering the quality craftsmanship of local artists. You will find that every where you go are home grown galleries all along the way; there is so much talent to be found in beautiful Maine. Be sure to stop in and say hello to Will, the owner of Keffauver Studio in Daramiscotta. His work in oil painting is exceptional, as well as that of the many artist's work he displays in his gallery.
So in summary, what I found in Maine is a beautiful state filled with friendly people, great food, quaint villages, unique shopping and a sweet little cottage perched on a hill that I hope to return to some day! Don't hesitate to go, the only regret you will have is when you have to say goodbye.
We thoroughly enjoyed our getaway in the charming lobster fishing town of South Bristol! The cottage was cozy and comfortable for two. We had many walks and enjoyed the vistas of the working harbor and swing bridge in action. Such a convenient location with lobster and breakfast within walking distance. Lots of interesting things to do within the area. We will want to return again!
This is a lovely cottage in the woods, the perfect size for 2 people, full of light and very comfortable. It is in a great location, close to wonderful fishing ports (South Bristol, New Harbor and Boothbay), a lighthouse (Pemaquid), scenic train rides (Alna & Boothbay) and charming towns (Wiscasset, Damarascotta). There are a myriad of things to do, but don't miss the Pemaquid Lighthouse and the Puffin and Monhegan Island Cruises by Hardy's Boat Tours in New Harbor. No television reception but you can watch DVDs. Great pizza at the local grocery store. We loved it
