About the property

Welcome to Gil's Getaway!

*** Please read this entire description before booking, and feel free to ask me any questions you might have! ***

This simple cottage is located on 21 scenic acres to allow hiking, campfires, grilling out, or taking a nice soak in the relaxing hot tub! It is located in South Bloomingville, OH, a mere 4 miles from Old Man's Cave, Ash Cave, Conkle's Hollow, and many other local attractions.

Plates, bowls, utensils, coffee maker, toaster oven, and trash bags are included.

The cabin has central air conditioning, an electric central furnace heater, ceiling fans, wood burner, leather couch and recliner, porch swing, and a picnic table out back! It has beds to sleep 7 (please see below for a description of the bedding arrangement), has satellite TV in the living room and the bedroom, a stereo system with AUX input, DVD player, full kitchen with range, refrigerator, and microwave. Outside there is ample space for a nice campfire to roast hot dogs and make S'Mores! Jim-Bo's bar and grill is right next door within walking distance if you so desire!

Bedding arrangement: There are a total of 5 mattresses on which to sleep: 1 queen size bed in the bedroom (sleeps 2), 2 twin bunkbeds in one corner of the greatroom (sleeps 2), 1 twin bed in the opposing greatroom corner (sleeps 1), pullout full size couch (sleeps 2) {Entire cabin sleeps 7}

Please note: I have very good feedback and I pride myself in trying to make sure folks enjoy their time here. I will do my best to make sure your stay is a pleasant one. In order to achieve that, I want to make sure you are aware of a few items:

The water pressure can be low at times. It is fed by a well that is some distance away and at a lower elevation. Depending on when the well pump runs, this can leave the cabin with low pressure, especially in the shower. It usually gets better the next time the well pump runs, however, so I thank you for your patience in advance with the water pressure! :)

The cottage is in a rural setting. It is located in the middle of a wooded area, where it is moist and the cabin itself sometimes gets little sun. Therefore the cabin can at times be slightly damp upon arrival, but it does have full central air conditioning (as well as an electric furnace) for your use when you are there.

The floor of the cottage is concrete. This makes it very convenient for the cleanup of messes such as mud and dirt from hikes around the property and the local attractions.

As shown in the images, the back yard / fire pit area does not have a fence or barrier around its perimeter. There is not a "cliff" style dropoff here, but as in most places in hocking hills, there is a slope off the back yard area and downhill side of the cabin. Please be aware of this if you are planning on bringing young children to be present in the back yard area.

At times the satellite TV signal might be weak, or an item within the cabin might not be functional. Items such as these will be addressed ASAP by the property managers, and I will always do my best to make sure you are notified prior to booking.

The bathroom has recently been updated to accommodate those who are in a wheelchair or have mobility challenges (but these additions are not yet reflected in the images). Two grab bars have been installed in the shower stall. Two flip-down grab bars and a rear grab handle have been installed for the toilet area. To use the flip-down bars, simply lift up on the bars and allow them to slowly drop into position, and then push the bar toward the wall to lock it in place. To raise the bar, pull it away from the wall, raise it, and then allow it to drop into position for storage.

Finally, my property is not a rustic log cabin with all of the finished touches of one. However, you will see that my nightly price is one of the least expensive in the Hocking Hills region. I am very close to the caves. I do not charge for additional people OR pets. I do hope you enjoy your stay!

Don't delay! Get out to the Hocking Hills!

Great Cabin

  • 4 of 5

My fiancé took me here for my birthday weekend and the cabin was great! We were sent a very detailed email that helped us find our way easily. Everything was super clean and tidy. The only downside was the cement flooring but that's an easy fix if you bring some slippers. Great location near trails and the hot tub was fantastic. Would recommend to any couple or small group looking to get away for a few days!

A Lovely Escape

  • 5 of 5

We stayed over the holidays (12/23/16-1/1/17) and the cabin was everything we hoped/expected. Dan (the owner) was very attentive and helpful, and the cabin was locked (we were given perfect check-in instructions beforehand) and tidy on arrival. It's mentioned the water pressure is low, but we took nice hot showers while we were there with no complaints. While the floors are concrete, they do not take away from the coziness of the cabin. The cabin does have central heat that works perfectly, but we preferred the wood burner (which kept the cabin very toasty). The hot tub was clean and worked perfectly. There are hiking and riding trails all over the huge property, and Old Man's Cave is very close. There is plenty of room to sleep if you want to take your family (it's was just the two of us and an Australian Shepherd who also had a wonderful time). The beds were clean and comfy, though I found myself napping regularly in the fantastic recliner :) We would definitely go back!

Rustic cabin, hiking trails, and a hot tub to soak away your worries from everyday life

  • 5 of 5

The homeowner was great with communication and made sure our stay was what we expected. The cabin has what you need during your visit. Close to Ash Cave and Old Man's Cave and after a day of hiking you can relax in the hot tub. Great rates and no extra fees for more than 2 guests. Thanks Dan!

I will start off by saying that Daniel was very helpful in the beginning of the process of booking our cabin . However it was downhill from there!! My husband and I went to Hocking Hills for a birthday celebration. We were both very excited. Upon arrival we were met with a man who had arrived a day early and was already in our cabin!! He had full access to the cabin because the lock code is never changed in between guests staying at the cabin. He had been in the bed and we were never offered a new set of sheets !! Also it was quite odd and a little nerve-wracking to leave all of our belongings in the cabin knowing that a strange man had the front door code and full access to the cabin. Daniel was able to find the man different lodging for he and his friends for the next two nights . After speaking with Daniel I was promised to be reimbursed for my entire stay and then was offered a free weekend stay. However since then I have not heard from Daniel nor have I been reimbursed anything!!

Also if you cannot tell from the photos the floor is concrete and I would highly recommend bringing shower shoes because the shower is disgusting. The couch is held together with a piece of plywood on the back of it. I understand that cabins are rustic and I didn't expect it to be luxurious by any means , but I feel like this listing is misleading it is definitely meant for a hunter not for a couple or family .

Overall my husband and I made it a good stay simply because Hocking Hills is beautiful and we stayed away from the cabin as much as possible!! I would never stay in this cabin again!!

Owner's Response: I would like a chance to respond to this guest's concerns. She is completely correct that an individual that was to arrive after her stay arrived early and that is unacceptable. However, the person leaving this review did not mention that she actually booked this cabin for dates that were not what she actually was hoping for. She booked it from Thursday to Saturday, when in actuality she wanted the cabin from Friday to Sunday. Once she realized her error after arriving a day late and missing her first paid night's stay, she was sad that her husband's birthday weekend was cut short, so I offered to allow her to stay another night (Saturday night, which she actually did not book) - and I paid for the future guest's hotel stay on top of that. I do admit that at first I offered a complete refund to this guest because I thought that the date error was completely my fault. Once I determined that this guest had actually booked the cabin one day off, I felt I had made up for it by allowing her to stay a free Saturday night AND pay for another paying customer to stay at a hotel Saturday night. I sent an email to the customer who left this review and explained that she had booked the cabin a day off. I am not sure if she received that email or not, but I honestly thought since I didn't hear back from her that I had resolved it to her satisfaction. In hindsight, I should have made a specific call to her to verify she was OK. As for the the sheet issue - the property manager's cell number is in the welcome email. I do not believe he was ever contacted nor made aware of the need for replacement sheets. He would have delivered them if notified. If anyone ever feels in danger due to a key code issue, please feel free to remove the key from the lockbox and store the key safely inside the deadbolted steel doors when you are there. If you leave to go on a hike, simply take the key with you and lock the doors. Finally, in regard to the concrete floor, I make a specific reference to the floor being concrete in the ad. I do feel bad that this customer was dissapointed with her stay, and I have reached out to her for follow up.
