About Kathy Spencer

Several years ago we moved from Colorado to Northern VA. We raise Quarter Horses and Shires but in our spare time, we enjoy water sports, fishing and swimming. Lake Anna is the perfect place for it. We hope you will feel the same way after spending your vacation here.

Kathy Spencer purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Kathy Spencer chose Bumpass

Three years ago we started looking for just the right lake home to purchase. Our poor realtor had to show us everything available on the lake until we found this stunning log home situated on the perfect property for us. It was not an easy task to find the right home for us as we really wanted so many things! I wanted a swim area to teach my grandchildren to swim. It needed to have a gentle slope and sandy bottom. I needed a dock/boat house that was deep water for ease in getting our boats in and out of it. It was important to me to have a view of the lake from the house so that I could watch the family waterski, boat, and tube and take wonderful photos from the comfort of my beautiful home. A 5 bedroom home was desirable and we wanted to make sure that there were plenty of bathrooms to limit sharing so this 5 bedroom/5 bathroom log beauty was just the right fit. Both Rustic and Refined makes this the most comfortable home on the lake!

What makes this cabin unique

Both Rustic and Refined describes our beautiful log home. The wall of windows in the great room allow anyone who hasn't gone out in the boat to have a panoramic scenic view of the lake and family enjoying it. The sunset is lovely from this location. Our home has all the necessary amenities to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. It is warm, inviting, solid and certainly more sustainable than conventional housing on the lake. If it could talk, each log would have a story to tell and it would be delighted to welcome you in.

Relaxing and pretty

  • 5 of 5

Nicely located, well stocked and relaxing home. Kathy is responsive and provides lots of helpful information. We took advantage of the well stocked kitchen and made gourmet style meals for our group of 12. We recommend future guests bring wine glasses. The beds are quite comfortable and it was helpful to have 5 bathrooms with a large crowd like ours. Many thanks.

Owner's Response: Dear Sheila, Thank you so much for your wonderful review. It was great to have guests that treated our Vacation Home so well. Thank you for the suggestion about wine glasses. Our family does not drink and so that is something that had completely gone over my head! I will purchase wine glasses for the home so future guests won't have to bring their own. I truly appreciate when my guests let me know the items that I have missed in my quest to make our home a Vacation Home that others can and will enjoy too. I hope you were able to enjoy the home and see some of our local wildlife enjoying the lake. I truly love watching the Eagles and Osprey fishing. To be able to watch the birds of prey from our floor to ceiling windows, even when the day is a bit chilly, is a great thrill for me. Often times they sit at the very top of the big tree that is located between the cabin and the lake and will even eat their daily catch up there. It is my sincere hope that you will think of Heron's Cove as YOUR Vacation home away from home and enjoy future stays there. Thank you again.

Great time!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the house. Well stocked, clean, etc. Everything worked. The kitchen has all you'd need. The kayaks and paddleboards were a favorite. The fire pit was nice but since it was very hot and humid during our stay we did not use it as much as we'd planned. Kathy was very receptive and responsive. The lake is not jammed with developments so it's pretty quiet and there's plenty of coves to explore. The neighborhood is very quiet. The lake water temperature is definitely warm so don't be surprised by that. The location is centrally located so about an hour to Richmond, to Fredericksburg and to Chancellorsville. Lots of history nearby especially if you're into the Civil War. Our only suggestion, and it's not a complaint, would be to have another couch in the main living room as it would be nice to have a larger group gather especially in the evenings.

Owner's Response: Hello Marilyn, Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are truly happy that you had an enjoyable time at Heron's Cove at Lake Anna. We were especially delighted to know that you enjoyed the deck. We extended it last year to make an outdoor space that everyone could enjoy. This year I added some comfortable deck furniture in addition to the table, chairs, BBQ grill and Chaise Lounge chairs to give it an even more inviting outdoor space to love. We are thrilled that our efforts to make this better for our guests have not been unnoticed. One of my favorite things to do is get up early in the morning, sit on the deck looking out over the lake. The moody scene set by the steam rising off the surface of the sun-lit lake is a beautiful sight. If I am patience enough, I'll stay and watch the blue heron in the cove slowly stalking the fish and waiting until they swim right up to him so he can move lightning fast with a quick thrust of his neck and catch one. The experience of moving from slow motion lightning fast movement is nothing short of spectacular to see. You most likely saw Bald eagles swooping down to the surface of the lake and coming back up with their catch of the day. It was such a joy the first time I watched that. Often times they will come perch in the bald part of the tree right in the yard to eat their catch. It is a magnificent sight! Thank you again for visiting and we hope you will make Heron's Cove your Vacation Home Away From Home! Sincerely, The Spencer's

Owner's Response: Hello Shannon, I am so delighted that you enjoyed your weekend at Heron's Cove. You were wonderful guests and you are welcome back anytime. I hope you were able to see some of the magic of Lake Anna. I love when the fog lifts off the glass surface of the lake at dawn or when an Eagle fishing in the cove takes a dive from high above to catch that fish he saw. A majestic Blue Heron flying by during the sunset is always a wonderful site to see. We hope you will come back and make Heron's Cove your Vacation Home away from Home!

Beautiful stunning home away from home...

  • 5 of 5

After several years of unpredictable weather at Deep Creek we decided to venture to Lake Anna for our Spring Family Getaway/ Anniversary. The weather was outstanding 15-20 degrees warmer the water was super refreshing on our 90 degree days. With a total of 11 in the house there was more than enough room for everyone to have their own space. The beds were all comfortable. We were greeted every morning with a slight beautiful fog rising from the warm water. My son and I enjoyed the fishing from the Kayak's before the house awoke, Then spent the day lounging lakeside while the kids put to use the paddle boards and Kayaks. Evenings after dinner closed with SMORES on the quaint fire pit located by the lake while enjoying the beautiful sunset. This was truely the best vacation we have had in years and everyone had a wonderful time. I can not thank the Spencer family enough for sharing a piece of their Paradise with us. Already rebooked for next year!!!!

Owner's Response: Hi Trent, We LOVE having your family make Heron's Cove their Vacation Home Away From Home! You always make Heron's Cove better than when you got there. The special touches you add and extra clean up you do, don't go unnoticed. We appreciate you so much and hope that this will be your special place for years to come. We feel so fortunate to have met you and are always thrilled that you choose Heron's Cove for your wonderful family outing. I love the wind chimes that you added this year. I'll have to get a photo sent to you. I still enjoy seeing the hummingbirds outside at the feeder that you left last year. It is a special joy. Thank you again. The Spencers

Fantastic weekend at Heron's Cove

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house to stay in. It is very well equipped and furnished. Their are bathrooms for every bedroom, 3 of them are master suites. The Wifi worked very well for us. There were 5 of us with two devices each, and we did not experience any problems even with streaming videos. The location is excellent! The lake here is quiet and calm. The kitchen has 2 of everything at least! There is a very nice set of wine glasses, so don't worry about that. Linens for the beds, and towels for guest were of a high quality and we were very thankful to have them. Looking forward to a return visit. Owners are very accessible to answer questions if they come up during a visit, they will get right back to you if you don't reach them.

Owner's Response: Hi Mark, I am so thrilled that you enjoyed Heron's Cove and that we met your expectations. That is always our #1 Goal! it was such a pleasure having you and your group at Heron's Cove. When ever I get to spend a few days there, I never want to leave that little piece of paradise! I hope you were able to catch a glimpse of some of the wonderful wildlife that call that area home. I love when the Eagles are hunting in the lake. It is a thrill to watch them. I'm also quite enamored with the Blue Herons and watching them slowly stalk the small fish in the cove. It is my hope that you and your guests enjoyed the Kayaks and paddle boards. Thank you again for staying at Heron's Cove. We hope to see you again soon!
