About Kathy Spencer

Several years ago we moved from Colorado to Northern VA. We raise Quarter Horses and Shires but in our spare time, we enjoy water sports, fishing and swimming. Lake Anna is the perfect place for it. We hope you will feel the same way after spending your vacation here.

Kathy Spencer purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Kathy Spencer chose Bumpass

Three years ago we started looking for just the right lake home to purchase. Our poor realtor had to show us everything available on the lake until we found this stunning log home situated on the perfect property for us. It was not an easy task to find the right home for us as we really wanted so many things! I wanted a swim area to teach my grandchildren to swim. It needed to have a gentle slope and sandy bottom. I needed a dock/boat house that was deep water for ease in getting our boats in and out of it. It was important to me to have a view of the lake from the house so that I could watch the family waterski, boat, and tube and take wonderful photos from the comfort of my beautiful home. A 5 bedroom home was desirable and we wanted to make sure that there were plenty of bathrooms to limit sharing so this 5 bedroom/5 bathroom log beauty was just the right fit. Both Rustic and Refined makes this the most comfortable home on the lake!

What makes this cabin unique

Both Rustic and Refined describes our beautiful log home. The wall of windows in the great room allow anyone who hasn't gone out in the boat to have a panoramic scenic view of the lake and family enjoying it. The sunset is lovely from this location. Our home has all the necessary amenities to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. It is warm, inviting, solid and certainly more sustainable than conventional housing on the lake. If it could talk, each log would have a story to tell and it would be delighted to welcome you in.

Relaxing and pretty

  • 5 of 5

Nicely located, well stocked and relaxing home. Kathy is responsive and provides lots of helpful information. We took advantage of the well stocked kitchen and made gourmet style meals for our group of 12. We recommend future guests bring wine glasses. The beds are quite comfortable and it was helpful to have 5 bathrooms with a large crowd like ours. Many thanks.

Owner's Response: Dear Sheila, Thank you so much for your wonderful review. It was great to have guests that treated our Vacation Home so well. Thank you for the suggestion about wine glasses. Our family does not drink and so that is something that had completely gone over my head! I will purchase wine glasses for the home so future guests won't have to bring their own. I truly appreciate when my guests let me know the items that I have missed in my quest to make our home a Vacation Home that others can and will enjoy too. I hope you were able to enjoy the home and see some of our local wildlife enjoying the lake. I truly love watching the Eagles and Osprey fishing. To be able to watch the birds of prey from our floor to ceiling windows, even when the day is a bit chilly, is a great thrill for me. Often times they sit at the very top of the big tree that is located between the cabin and the lake and will even eat their daily catch up there. It is my sincere hope that you will think of Heron's Cove as YOUR Vacation home away from home and enjoy future stays there. Thank you again.

Beautiful vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

There were 7 of us... three couples and a single. With the way the house is designed, we could all be together or have our separate and quiet spaces apart. The house is right on the lake with beautiful views. The herons and deer came by to visit. The kayaks provided a great way to explore the lake. We would love to go back again. The owner (again, thank you!) was especially nice and accommodating.

Owner's Response: Hello Sami, Thank you so much for your review. We loved having you stay at Heron's Cove and hope you will come back in the future. I'm glad to hear that the Ladies trip turned out well and that you were able to enjoy your time there. Perhaps you will think about coming out when the weather is even nicer so you can enjoy more of the lake activities. I'm glad your group was able to enjoy time on the lake in the Kayaks. We are happy to supply those for our guests so that they can enjoy the lake even in the winter. That is the truly nice thing about having a home on the warm side of the lake. It never freezes and you can truly enjoy the lake even in the coldest of weather if you are brave enough to get out there. Thank you again for staying at Heron's Cove and we hope you will make this your VACATION HOME AWAY FROM HOME!

Amazing view!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 13 immensely enjoyed our stay over the holidays. It was a great place to get away and enjoy nature, but not too far to visit some awesome historical sites as well. Kathy was a pleasure to work with. Any needs we had were met instantly. Kathy was easy to get a hold of when needed and worked hard to insure that we had a pleasant stay. It was very spacious and was a wonderful place for our family to come together from three states and enjoy being together.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure having you stay at Heron's Cove. You treated the home like it was your own and we appreciate that so much. Maybe next time you will come at a warmer time and get to enjoy the lake more. I always say that anytime spent at the Lake is a great time. Time for reflection and relaxation. The winter months can be enjoyable just watching the Eagles and Osprey fish. Since the water doesn't freeze on our side of the lake, the birds of pray can still get a quick meal. I was looking back at photos from the last few years and although this January and first of February was so cold, there have been other years where my grandchildren were actually wading in the water and enjoying it during those months. Thank you again for leaving a wonderful review and we hope that you will make Heron's Cove your Vacation Home Away From Home!

Great weekend stay

  • 4 of 5

I had a great time with my friends. The property is spacious and we had fun using the kayaks and paddle boats. Linens and towels were provided but it would be nice to have some basic toiletries in the bathrooms. The kitchen is fully functional and stocked. The area is beautiful. It was easy to find the place. I would recommend the place to my friends.
