About Ron Winsor

I've lived in Taos for 35 years. Avid outdoorsmen, expert skier (private lessons and TSV mountain guiding available upon request), ultralight pilot, and am offering sunrise flights out over the Taos Gorge and Tres Piedras. Love to meet new people. The house I live in is close by, a few hundred yards away and I will be available for anything you might need during your stay.

Why Ron Winsor chose New Mexico

Designed and built this home in 2004-05. Passive solar house will keep you cozy throughout the day without having to blast the heat!!

Warm in the winter, extremely cool and well ventilated in the summer with large shade trees.

Living like queens and kings in the Castle

  • 5 of 5

This property was everything as advertised. Clean, spacious, well-maintained with extraordinarily inviting outdoor areas and magnificent views. Most comfortable beds we've encountered in our 20 years of staying in vacation rental home! The house very comfortably accommodated three adults couples. There is a fourth small bedroom that would be perfect for a couple traveling with young children but likelywouldn't provide enough privacy from the master bedoom for another couple. Our group enjoys cooking and the dining room provided an inviting environment for our nightly feasts. Ron is a very attentive and friendly host. Every request was attended to VERY quickly. I had trouble with the VRBO fees, etc. which were not what Ron and I had agreed to. He worked very patiently with me to clarify and also to make sure I was charged the previously agreed upon fee.

We look forward to visiting the Castle again!

Beautiful! Perfect family getaway!

We loved the house and the surrounding area! The hot tub with a gorgeous view was a plus. The house is beautifully decorated and spacious. The kids played all day and night in the gardens. We loved the whole weekend - thank you!

Great house with great views!

  • 5 of 5

We came up and stayed in Winsor Castle for 4 days. Ron was a great guy to work with and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was great and the weather was awesome. We had everything we needed and the location is second to none. Even though there are other houses close, it is very private and the views are great. We hope to come again and will definitely stay here again. Thanks Ron for a great vacation.

Windsor Castle met and exceeded all of my expectations for top comfort, beauty and close proximity..

  • 5 of 5

After reading the reviews from the past 12 months for this home, I expected a lot.

As it turned out my experience exceeded what I thought this (or any) VRBO rental could provide. My August 2016 experience at the Windsor Castle is on par with some of the worlds’ greatest resorts I have already had the opportunity to enjoy. Windsor Castle provides total privacy perched high in the mountainside near the opening to the final approach to Taos Ski Valley mountain.

Ron is not only the local owner, but he is the architect & builder of this unique New Mexico adobe “castle” and the gifted landscaper of its many dozen gardens. He has brought an exceptional presentation of gardens to the both inside the home and out! The high vaulted ceilings throughout the home contribute both to the artful ambience and its comfort. A high-end luxury home, yet casted nicely in the native New Mexico adobe.

I am very demanding person when it comes to travel accommodations, and the Windsor Castle met and exceeded them all. Many of my other VRBO experiences totally missed on many levels, but not Windsor Castle. Every room’s feel has been uniquely accentuated with well-chosen art displays and architectural design points. Importantly, the art helps to create an increased sense of comfort.

The many possible beauties of Taos valley and the surrounding mountains are captured through both large glass panes in the entertainment room and master bathroom, plus nicely pointed portals windows in the bedrooms, AND outside sitting areas.

Multiple families, or a large family/group will be comfortably accommodated here. The beds are nicely fitted and very comfortable to give that great night’s rest you desire.

If you already have a modern kitchen with top amenities, then you will be right at home. Whether you want to cook quickie-meals, or more exquisite dishes, you will be properly supported with the top-end kitchen range and many kitchen support tools.

All of the bathrooms were well thought out from service, aesthetics and comfort, i.e. steam shower, large master bath soaking tub, separate shower and high-end commodes.

The large entertainment living area can support one person, or a dozen, for fun activities or just relaxation. I cannot wait to make Windsor Castle my home for this winter’s vacation too!

Thank you Ron!! :")

Not so good

  • 2 of 5

Here goes. We rent a house every year for a week of skiing at Taos and have had only great experiences. but this was different unfortunately. Although the property and house were very nice, the 4th bedroom was literally a windowless closet. When we arrived after a long travel day from both east and west coasts, the hot tub wasn't warm. no big deal but we mentioned it to Ron. The kitchen is nice, but lacked any sharp knives so we asked Ron if we could borrow a sharp knife. After these exchanges, Ron called us back at perhaps 10:30 at night after we had all gone to sleep. He left a long angry rambling message about what bad people we were for mentioning the hot tub and for asking for a sharp knife. On the message he told us to find another place to rent (we stayed). The sking was great so this didn't effect our vacation, but we won'y stay there again and can't recommend it.

Great stay at Winsor Castle!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Ron's place! The house is a complete paradise, set smack in the middle of a massive outdoor playground. There are miles and miles of single-track mountain biking that accessible right from the house. You can also hike right from the house, or hit one of the more established trails in the Taos Wilderness area, which is just a few miles away. Ron is super friendly and responsive.
