I've lived in Taos for 35 years. Avid outdoorsmen, expert skier (private lessons and TSV mountain guiding available upon request), ultralight pilot, and am offering sunrise flights out over the Taos Gorge and Tres Piedras. Love to meet new people. The house I live in is close by, a few hundred yards away and I will be available for anything you might need during your stay.
Designed and built this home in 2004-05. Passive solar house will keep you cozy throughout the day without having to blast the heat!!
Warm in the winter, extremely cool and well ventilated in the summer with large shade trees.
IN floorheating will keep your toes warm throughout the house.
It’s away from everything....Quiet, Beautiful views. We loved it. Can’t wait to come back.
My family spent Thanksgiving at Winsor Castle and it was just perfect. The indoor plants were just amazing and there was plenty of space for all of us. The owner greeted us when we got there and was willing to help us if needed. We would love to stay there again!
We had a wonderful time at Winsor Castle. We had everything we needed and loved the views, the atriums, and all of the beautiful flowers. We saw multiple hummingbirds everyday. The kids enjoyed picking veggies from the garden and cooking a yellow squash, zucchini, and jalapeño casserole all from the garden. We all slept well after all the hiking and rafting. Ron was a great host and told us about a hike in the area that was amazing. We will definitely be back!
We just finished staying at Ron's house and it was great. The house is beautiful with plants inside the house and beautiful outdoor space and views as well. Beds were comfortable. The whole house exceeded our expectations. We met Ron and he is a very nice man, very helpful and respectful. We hosted a dinner party for 15 one night and there was plenty of room for all and all were appreciative of the house. When we are back we will not hesitate to stay again.
My party (3 couples, 4 children, and 2 infants) stayed at Winsor Castle for two nights. The house is quite unique, with a large indoor greenhouse, a beautiful master suite with a tub boasting views of the mountains, and an encircling grass yard with tons of lovely porch seating. After exploring the house and running barefoot through the grass (a rare experience for us Albuquerque residents) my daughter told me "this is the best day of my life." The owner Ron was wonderful and attentive to our needs. This property was a perfect fit!
My family of four and another family of three stayed at Winsor Castle over Spring Break 2017. The house and the view is absolutely magnificent. It is nicely accommodated with soft beds, lovely bathrooms and even a basket full of towels for drying off after soaking in the hot tub. The fourth bedroom is directly off the master bedroom through french doors (and was quite small) but it was perfect for our 7-year-old daughter. There are some neat trails to hike right up the hill from the house...get ready for some spectacular views. We even heard coyotes howling on one of the four nights we were there. It was pretty neat coming from the hustle and bustle of a big city. The closest good grocery store is in Taos which is about 15 minutes away. We did loose water pressure one night but since Ron lives right up the road he immediately fixed the problem and even stayed to chat with us for a while and make sure everything was going well. Very nice man.
The only thing I will caution people about is the final turn up the house. Ron's directions are perfect EXCEPT that the sign that reads "41" is almost impossible to see and if you miss it you're up a creek since there's no cell service. The sign you need to look for are on what looks like a white mailbox post with the numbers "29". That's where you turn up a steep hill. The weather was beautiful and warm while we were there but I imagine you would need a 4x4 to get up the hill in icy conditions.
Within walking distance to Lobo Peak and many miles of hiking and biking trails. Trout fishing within a half mile in the Arroyo Hondo River. 1 close neighbor within 1/8 of a mile, the village of Valdez. VERY private residence, in upscale neighborhood/road. Great relationship with the locals for more than 20 years. You will have keys but we haven't locked a door on this road in 20 years. All wheel drive recomended for inexperienced winter drivers during ski season.
Local fruits and vegetables grown on property and available to eat when in season.
Valdez NM is 3 miles from Arroyo Seco on the way to Taos Ski Vally.
