Both my husband Mike and I came to Alaska in 1984, I am originally from CT, I am a station manager for a small commuter airlines Alaska Seaplanes, we fly to many communities in Southeast Alaska. My husband Mike is from WA State, and he is a tugboat captain running boats all over Alaska. We met here in Skagway and immediately fell in love with this beautiful country. Anyone who has spent anytime in Alaska will agree that in just gets under your skin and becomes home. We raised our 2 daughters here and have enjoyed this peaceful safe little town for over 30 years.
Joanne Korsmo purchased this house in 2000
We bought our beautiful house in 2000, there are large windows on all 3 sides of the house capturing all the breathtaking views Skagway has to offer. You can look to the north and see the White Pass Mountain range in the Yukon and also look to the south and see the Lynn Canal all from one room. The location was a draw as well, only 10 minutes from town by car, it definitely gives you the feeling of getting away from it all.
One unique benefit of the house is during the tourist season you have a the bird's eye view of the ships coming into port every morning and leaving every night. You can enjoy watching from the upstairs bedroom, or off the balcony or the downstairs living room, and lower deck.
The house is beautiful. Beautiful views, Clean comfortable, Can't wait to come back. Thank You Thank You Tara
We absolutely loved this house! We had such a great stay and enjoyed the breathtaking views. Joanne and Mike were most accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. The house had great features, beautiful woodwork, and was really comfortable.
This home met all of our needs. It was very clean, fresh flowers, (not any easy find in Alaska) it had plenty of room, beautiful views, a great kitchen, and a place to create new family memories. Some of our best pictures are out on the deck overlooking Skagway. I look forward to returning in 5 years and would definitely book this house again. Thank you Joanne for opening your home to my family.
This home was the perfect place for two families to share while on vacation in Skagway. Highlights are the spectacular setting, beautiful landscaping, breathtaking view, well equipped kitchen, comfortable sleeping spaces, family friendly amenities, and the owner's attention to helping her guests feel welcomed and at home. We have stayed many other places in Skagway - this home is simply the best there is. Thank you for making our dream vacation a reality!
Joanne has created an incredibly comfortable home with beautiful views of the many ships coming in and departing each day. The house has a warm, cozy feel, kitchen is functional and well equipped, the beds are comfortable and the linens are excellent.
We had spent the previous 3 weeks hiking in the Yukon and enjoyed both the hikes in Skagway and also the great restaurants filled with a variety of superb and incredibly fresh seafood. A very special place with a unique history.
Highly recommend refreshing and nurturing yourself with a visit at Joanne's home and enjoying this charming town with such a rich history!
This home is so much more than the listing shows. The house and decks are in great condition and the setting is breathtaking. The owners have taken great care to make the home comfortable and have decorated with beautiful local art. The location just outside of town was a welcome respite from the busy downtown when all the cruise ships were in port. The home is close to all kinds of outdoor adventures from hiking, zip lining to sightseeing. Everything our family needed was provided from great beds with quality linens to laundry facilities and a well stocked kitchen. A really nice surprise for me was sharp knives in the kitchen!! The owners even provided a bag of delicious shrimp for us to enjoy! I have rented VRBO properties for over twenty years and this property is one of the nicest I have had the pleasure to stay in!
Skagway is a National Park, there is a Park Service museum and City museum offering lots of wonderful history dating back to the 1898 Goldrush. Beautiful hikes and lots of activities such as White Pass Railroad, Packer Expeditions hiking to glaciers and kayak trips to Fraser B.C. Temsco Helicopters, Alaska Excursions Zipline, Horseback riding and dog sled tours. There is something for everyone.
