My Husband and I have repurposed several cabins in the last 30 years, we enjoy sharing them with you .We have the cabin my grandparents built in early 1900 ,moved to our property. We also enjoy motorcycling,on our Harley's.
Barbara Sparks purchased this cabin in 1990
We purchased this property because of the location.
Our cabin is the only one in the Richmond area so that makes it a special place to stay.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend at Barbara's cabin. She was a wonderful host, The cabin is charming. Richmond is surprisingly beautiful with rolling hills and horsefarms. It felt more like Virginia or Kentucky than most of the midwest. My wife and I will take our kids next time.
We stayed here with our baby and friends when visiting Richmond for an Earlham College reunion. Cabin was very convenient to campus and town and had everything we needed. It was clean and well appointed, with tons of bedding/blankets provided that we didn't end up needing since it didn't get very cold. Beds were not super comfy but certainly good enough! Very nice sized cabin and would have been fine for a group larger than ours as well, with multiple rooms, two bathrooms, and a large open main floor living space. Especially loved sitting out on the porch enjoying the beautiful fall evening air. Thanks for a lovely stay, we'll definitely be back if visiting the area again.
This log home is on a piece of land with 3 other homes, 2 of which are permanently occupied, and one which is an unoccupied older log cabin. It's furnished creatively and has lots of character, but lighting is dim and furniture is well worn. Not recommended for children or those who prefer privacy. The owner's front porch overlooks the small fishing pond, and the other neighboring home is pretty close to rental. The water didn't work while we were there, but apparently turned on later. The terrain is suprisingly hilly.
That said, Barbara & her neighbor were friendly and helpful. It wasn't the best choice for a single mom w/kids, but might be good for more adventurous folks who are looking for a step up from camping. It has lots of neat decor, an open kitchen w/cookware,etc, and is in a quiet area. Bring sleeping bags in case you prefer your own bedding & stop for groceries in town. About 30 min from Hueston Woods State Park, and 15 min from Richmond area.
Brought my mom, aunt and son for a 2 night visit. They really enjoyed the property. Barbara and her husband were very sweet. Would love to go back again.
Stayed for 2 nights and met up with another couple
My wife and I and another couple met her for a weekend motorcycle getaway and to plan some future long trip rides. What a fantastic place to get away from it all. Owners Cliff and Barb are great people who treated us like family. Both of them ride Harleys and we got to know them pretty well. Nothing better than sitting on the front porch in the evening, having a beer and rain on the metal porch roof. The cabin is old fashion and true to its nature. If you want a 5 star, go somewhere else. If you want relaxation in the country and that old log cabin feel with modern features, stay here. We will be back in the future. Allan, Vickie, Tom and Sandy
My wife and I were looking for a place for a short relaxing getaway and this fit the bill. The cabin was very comfortable and had plenty of room to relax. It was just the two of us, but would be fine for more people.
Both afternoons it was very warm outside, but the cabin stayed cool. Access is via quite a few stairs, so someone with limited mobility might struggle with that.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay.
We are just 5 miles from the largest antique mall under roof, Centerville In,also private shops.
