Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday townhome in Northwest Washington - California: DuPont 619204

Historic townhome, in a quiet tree-lined neighborhood, 2 blocks from the heart of the action!

Elegant 1 bedroom, 1½ bathrooms, on the 2nd floor of a classic DC rowhouse. Located in one of the most upscale sections of the city - the west side of DuPont Circle, in Kalorama - the safest neighborhood in DC.

The home is exceptionally large - 800 square feet of indoor living space. Featuring high ceilings, tall windows and original French doors. Enhancing those quarters are two private balconies – just off the kitchen for dining alfresco, and next to the bedroom for morning coffee or quiet conversation outdoors.

The spiral staircase leads to a master retreat that is tucked away from the rest of the home. The bedroom is nicely sized and comfortably appointed, the organic mattress topped with freshly laundered linens, cleaned just prior to your arrival. Complementing the space is a full bathroom, sunroom alcove and Juliet balcony. On the main level, a sofa sleeper and half bath expand the sleeping quarters. The perfect setup up if you’re traveling with children or another couple.

The kitchen is fully equipped, and if you're into organics, included is a juicer and a Vitamix. Please feel free to use our spices for your cooking needs; groceries can be purchased just down the way at the corner market.

You are a short walk to hundreds of cafes and restaurants in DuPont and Georgetown, and within walking distance to the Capitol, monuments, museums, and the zoo. The DuPont Metro Station is just a few blocks away, and taxi’s and Uber cars are abundant in the area.

If you are bringing a vehicle, you have two options that can be added to your quote: driveway parking can be made available for up to 2 vehicles, and street parking permits can also be arranged.

What you can expect: it is my aim to provide guests a five-star experience. Touches that I appreciate when I travel: cleanliness, upscale linens and towels, comfortable bedding, wireless Internet and eclectic decor.

Please Note: I book on a first-come basis, and the furnishings are constantly evolving, including the Grateful Dead memorabilia!

Here's what Kathy from Ottawa had to say about her stay:

Excellent choice! This was a perfect choice for my recent three night stay in DC. The apartment was just as described in the listing - very clean, bright, safe and relaxed. It had all the amenities I required to make it an enjoyable stay including a comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen and a great WiFi connection. It was a fantastic location – within walking distance of major attractions but close to the Dupont Circle metro station if you prefer public transit. There is a good selection of restaurants, cafes and groceries in the area. Parking (with a permit) was available immediately across the street from the apartment and I never had to move my vehicle during my visit. I was most impressed with the responsiveness of the host who was accommodating and genuinely interested in ensuring a positive experience. She provided very clear, timely and detailed information and was always professional. I would definitely consider staying here again the next time I am in the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I got kudos from my two girlfriends for finding this place. It was perfect. The area was beautiful (and safe), it was hard to believe it was only steps away from resturants, shops, and the metro. The condo was absolutely charming. It was spotless. The kitchen has been updated and had everything we needed. The bed AND air mattress were incredibly comfortable. (We all wrote the name of the air mattress down so we could go home and buy one for OUR guests). Gloria was delightful to work with. (We had one mini-glitch and even though she was out of town, it was addressed immediately). Thanks, Gloria! We would definitely come back to this lovely condo.

Perfect home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Our trip to Washington DC was greatly enhanced by having such a wonderful place to stay! The location is fantastic - in a row house in Kalorama, on a quiet side street, surrounded by beautiful embassies and homes, yet only a 5-10 minute walk to the Metro in Dupont Circle. With only half a block to the corner market, and a couple of minutes walking to a large selection of great restaurants, we were set. The property itself is accurately described in the information. The kitchen and bathrooms have been very nicely remodeled with updated fixtures and appliances. The bed is SO comfortable, and the linens top quality. As described, the upper floor is reached by a narrow spiral staircase, which could possibly be a challenge for some. We had no difficulty getting my large 40lb. bag upstairs, though. Do be aware that it is in an older building. If you enjoy experiencing a town/city like the locals, then for Washington DC staying in a row house is for you, and this one couldn't be better. In addition, the owner is quick to respond to any concerns and is a delight to work with. We loved our stay - the place met all our needs.

This home is in an ideal location. We were able to use the Metro to get to all the sites in D.C.

This lovely apartment was very comfortable for my husband, 11-year old son, and me. The linens are upscale. There is a little sitting area on the 2nd floor, where we put an air mattress for my son. He tried the sleeper sofa too, which was great, but he preferred to be upstairs with us. This allowed us access to the sofa for morning reading, while our son slept in. The only downside of this beautiful apartment was having to constantly adjust the thermostat. I know utilities are high, but after a day of walking around outside in the unusually hot weather DC is currently experiencing, it would have been nice to walk into a cool apartment. The owners have the thermostat controlled to stay at 79 during the day. We were able to turn it down as soon as we came in, but it would take some time to cool down. There is not a washer/dryer available, which would be very nice (essential) for longer stays. Gloria was extremely responsive and helpful. I would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: I am so glad you found our home to be lovely and very comfortable! Yes, I know, we wish we had a washer and dryer too! These historic homes don't always lend themselves to amenities like that. Thankfully, the corner market has same day laundry service. As for the thermostat, we invested in a Nest Thermostat so that the temperature that our family enjoys when at home can be overridden by the guest at any time.

Everything as advertised

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was everything the description said it would be and we really loved hanging out on the small balconies and having breakfast out there. We also ended up renting a car on Friday and happily found out that street parking on Friday - Sunday was free and allowed. The location felt VERY safe and the small market 1/2 block away was awesome. The walk to the Metro was easy and a cab ride down to the National Mall was $15.

The only reason I didn't give the 5th star (and I would have given it 4.5 stars if I could) was the programmed thermostat reset to 79 degrees every 6 hours and couldn't be changed. We would turn it down when we got home in the evening and again when we went to bed but it was in the high 90's during our stay so it was HOT. We woke up very hot several times after 6 hours went by as the upstairs bedroom was hotter than the downstairs where the thermostat was...which was heading to 79 degrees at 5am. The thermostat was very high tech so I'm sure it's capable of managing a better solution. Other than this small thermostat issue which can be easily addressed, it's 5 stars!

Owner's Response: I am so happy you enjoyed your stay! And while I'm glad I was able to figure out the parking situation for you, I wish you would have contacted me about the AC. Because you're right, that would've been such an easy fix too. And more than anything, I want my guests to be as comfortable as I like to be when I travel.

Really perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this place! It was in a great location to restaurants, transportation (even a trolley stop), and grocery markets. It was perfect size for three people - plenty of space to be alone and together. The 1/2 bath on the first floor was a gift. Thanks for everything Gloria!
