The home of Alexander Hamilton is a few blocks from here. You can take a fee tour of it. What he did influences American life everyday. He is on the ten dollar bill for good reasons.
Thank you for your time and hope to meet you.
I have lived in the neighborhood for many years now and love all the people and nuances of this historic district.
Ivan purchased this apartment in 1995
I have always wanted to live in Harlem. I fell in love with this property for many reasons. One is it's size. It is one of the largest in the Bronstone class. (The Apartment is 1024 square feet.)
It was built in 1891 and was recently gut renovated in 2001. So all the pipes and electrical systems have been modernized. Even the main pipe line going into the street was changed. Many Brownstones still have the original lead fresh water pipe line.
Being located so close to two express subway trains you are 15 minutes from Times Square.
I used to work on 34th street. It would take me 21 minutes door to door to get to work in the mornings.
These subway lines are a direct line to Museum of Natural History/Rose Center, Lincoln Center, Central Park, Times Square, Time Warner Center, Freedom Tower, and more...
This last visit was our second stay at Ivan's house and we are thanking our lucky stars that he is still there and the apartment was available when we were able to travel. Our main reason for going to NYC is to see our son, his wife and our baby grand-daughter. Their apartment is about five blocks away and they can walk over in minutes. (Probably) Unlike most guests who stay in Ivan's apartment, we do an enormous amount of cooking as our dinners are a chance for family and friends to leisurely reconnect. I am VERY HAPPY to tell you that the cookware in the apartment is the best of any VRBO places we have stayed at. (Although, Ivan, you need a new vegetable peeler!) Last year, we stayed at an entirely different VRBO in another state and the pots and pans were so horrible, I went to the local thrift store and bought our own items. Ivan's frying pans & pots are heavy, well-made and DO NOT have the no-stick feature (non-stick is a feature we do not like).
Just like our last visit, Ivan was kind enough to meet us at the front door and carry up our luggage. He responded to our text messages regarding where to put the garbage as we feel like we are in our home away from home and should be responsible for taking our own trash down for the garbage pick-up.
We super appreciated all the baby related features, like the big crib, the organic crib sheets, the small high-chair, and the wipes. We never used the stroller but it was in the foyer if we had needed it.
My earlier review (July 2016) goes into detail about other aspects of the apartment that are important to us. It's hard for me to imagine a place to stay that could be any better for us when we are able to get up to "The Big Apple!"
My family & I had a great time! We were given detailed instructions for our arrival and greeted very warmly. The apartment size far exceeded my expectations - the photos really don't do it justice. Nice furnishings and every accommodation you need for a weekend or even a nice long stay. Washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, full size fridge, 4 burner gas stove, every imaginable utinsil and kitchen tool, hairdryer, extra linens...I seriously could go on and on.
The neighborhood has all you need very close by. (Pizza, Chinese, liquor store, groceries, subway )
Ivan was gracious and helpful. He was available via text at all times to answer questions or fix any problems. We had a small issue w the heater and he was present immediately to remedy it for us.
Overall, a fantastic experience! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling to NYC, and plan to contact Ivan personally for any future visits I may make.
This is a wonderful place to stay! It's a third floor walkup in a nice building in a neighborhood that feels calm and safe. The apartment is spotless and in great shape. Ivan was responsive to any needs we had. The beds are in good condition, and there are plenty of extra sheets and blankets. It is light and bright, and definitely child-friendly -- the outlets are all covered, there are bumpers on the coffee table, etc. It's also a two minute walk from the A and C subway lines. Couldn't be more convenient. I highly recommend this place!
We loved the apartment. It accommodates 4-5 adults very comfortably. Very convenient to express A subway stop, which was a priority as we traveled throughout the city during our stay. The king beds and linens were comfortable and the area was quiet at night. While we did not make extensive use of kitchen it offers everything you need! And the extra trundle bed provides great flexibility in sleeping arrangements. All appliances and fixtures were in very good working order. Ivan was very attentive before and during our stay to be sure we had everything we needed. His book of area amenities was very helpful and detailed. We will be traveling to New York often and this apartment will definitely be our first choice!
The property was located so close to the subway so that was nice. It had such comfortable beds and he had everything we needed on site. He even had a Keurig with coffee options that we could use as well as some snacks at our arrival.
We stayed a week in this apartment, with our three children. The size is good, is comfortable and with good facilities. It is half a block from the subway that has four lines, two of which are express, so it's fast and easy access to Manhattan. It has an excellent supermarket a block and it''s a good neighborhood. The only thing I think should be improved is the bathroom, because the tub tends to clog and doesn't have ventilation. Ivan is very good person and is available for what we need. Highly recommended to stay with children.
Two express and Two local trains stop on the same block as this listing.
Twenty Minutes to Times Square.
