Hale Iki Lani ( Little Heavenly Home ) was formerly a long term rental, but is now available for your vacation. With custom tile floors throughout, the master bath has a tub with beautiful tile surround, the bedroom offers a comfy king size bed with Tommy Bahama pillows and super soft bamboo sheets. Has a large dresser, custom bamboo closet a 32' smart TV. The living room offers comfortable sofa and chair, a 52' flat screen with smart blu ray player, internet, and a large skylight. The well stocked kitchen offers a gas stove, side by side refrigerator and even an espresso machine for enjoying that wonderful Kona coffee. There's a wrap around Lanai with plenty of seating, light the Tiki's, BBQ or just relax and gaze at the stars. At aprox 1500 ft elevation it's not to hot or to cold. A queen size airbed is available if desired.
We are Don and Lisa, Life changes brought both of us to Hawaii, Lisa grew up in the SF bay area and Don lived in So CA. We met and married here, we started a small business, and live and work in Kona.

I choose this property for the acreage and the peace. It's quiet with amazing views of the coastline during the day and beautiful starry nights and a comfortable distance from neighbors.
The property is unique, the style of the home and being surrounded by black lava.
If you're going to The Big Island, you should stay in this vrbo. It was a leisurely trip around the Island from this beautiful, clean, modern home.
We could have driven around the whole island in 5-6 hrs, but we stopped to eat and shop and view. Almost exactly halfway between Hilo and Kona, we were able to go and see easily, but then return to this beautiful "round house" (as we nicknamed it) to relax and recharge.
The owners were very helpful and friendly; they communicated in a quick, efficient manner.
I don't think I would change a thing about this house. I have stayed at a few vrbo's, and this is my favorite. From the so-comfortable bed, to the nice linens, to the comfortable chaises on the lanai, to the sparkling clean, to the absolute quiet, to the stars at night.
I would recommend arriving during daylight hours, as Ranchos is very dark at night- no street lamps. But, this is a good thing, as the beauty of this area is pretty great during the day... view of the grand ocean, then a black sky lit up at night with nine billion stars.
Can I recommend this house? Absolutely. Will I return to visit? Absolutely.

We very much enjoyed our 3 night stay at this home. We purposely tried to stay away from the tourist hub-bub while on the Big Island, and this location very much helped us to do that. It is in the "boondocks", but two grocery stores, gas stations, and at least two adequate restaurants nearby. Its in a sparsely developed gated community, so no traffic noise. Located on a high points, right on top of a lava flow, it provides a nice view of the sea and of South Point (the most southern point in the United States). Very nice sunset views! The home is small (just right for two) but well appointed. Nightlife limited to a very nice collection of movie DVDs for the big screen TV! Owners/property manager very welcoming and helpful.
There is really only one reason I don't give this house 5 stars, so I'll start with that. The house is perfect for a morning person. Night owls (like us) should not expect to sleep in much. The bedroom is open to the central skylight (sunrise was around 6am in June), which was not so bad - I used an extra pillowcase over my head in the morning. But about an hour after sunrise, the roof begins a steady symphony of creaking and popping as it warms in the sun (not so easy to sleep through).
Everything else about this house is well above average compared to (8 or so) other VRBO rentals I've stayed in. The landscaping is unique and beautiful. Upon entering, we were greeted with a bottle of wine and an assortment of coffee/tea/etc drink packets. Lisa keeps a well-organized binder of information about the home and the island. The blue book (guide book) of the Big Island was invaluable for planning our adventures during our stay. The house was immaculately clean and adorably decorated. It is well-stocked with everything imaginable - from shampoo/conditioner/soap (even a spare toothbrush and toothpaste) in the bathrooms, plenty of spare towels (over a dozen beach towels!), to conveniences such as ziplocks and tin foil in the kitchen, Lisa really has thought of everything (we especially appreciated the aloe)! There are additional perks such as the propane grill on the porch and the snorkel equipment in the shed.
When we checked out, I somehow managed to leave a bunch of my belongings in the dresser drawers. Lisa was completely sympathetic and went out of her way to mail them back to me. I offered to reimburse the postage (about $20), but she declined.
Overall, this was a fantastic house, with excellent hospitality!
This property was wonderful. The owners have included many thoughtful amenities that makes for a very memorable stay. Very quiet and private.
Quiet & comfortable... just right for a great couple escape. Away from the crowds , a serene setting on the South end of the island; beautiful views of the ocean in the distance. The stars are wonderful at night. Don & Lisa are very attentive - provided everything we needed and more. Mahalo.
Fantastic house away from the Kona crowds/traffic. Yurt-type with big skylight, recently remodeled, nicely done. 1500 ft elevation, no AC needed. Helpful owners. Serene with view of ocean on southern end of Big Island. Gated community. Free wifi and Dish TV. Can see Milky Way at night and hear geckos chirp. Eco-house with rainwater collection. Lavascape yard. Close to Volcanoes National Park, black sand beach with sea turtles. Best for couples.
Ocean View is located at the southern tip of the big island, aprox halfway between Kona and Hilo. About 40 miles south of the volcanoes national park. The home has easy access to the highway although its not too close to it. Visit the volcano, the green sand beach, and captain cook's monument.
