About scott Vanderweel
Scott and Martha are retired and living the dream! We spend our summers here on the same beach as our rentals. We love serving the needs of our guest. Our goal is to make your vacation the very best ever. We spend our winters in the Caribbean on the Island of St Thomas. There, we spend our time hosting to our friends and family who come to visit. There is always plenty of room and plenty to eat at our house! Our St Thomas house is VRBO listing # 857551 if you are interested.
Why scott Vanderweel chose Wolcott
Scott grew up out here on Crescent Beach. Since 1960, Scott used to camp out here on the beach when there were no cottages at all. In 1989 Scott started developing the beach to share his paradise with others. There is no other place like this in NY. The sunsets are considered to be in the top ten in the world! There is no road access to the beach which is one of the best features! It's just a 5 minute boat ride from our marina. It is very private and beautiful! You will love it here!
What makes this Cottage unique
Sit on the deck and watch your children swim, kayak, canoe or just play on the beach which is ten feet from the deck. Enjoy a camp fire on the bay in your private fire pit.

Fun and Relaxing
Great location. Love knowing that both the bay and the lake are just a few steps away. Scott and Martha are always very helpful and go above and beyond to enhance your experience.
Girls Weekend
Upon arrival Scott was very friendly and helped us get settled in. The cabin was very cute and had most of the the items we would need. However, there was a definite problem with the flushing of the toilet. We had seven ladies in our group and the toilet tank would not fill up . We had to pour buckets of water to make it flush each time!! The boat that was a part of our stay never arrived until the night before we left. We had to send a few text messages and a phone call in order to have them deliver it.The cabin was somewhat clean but needed a good deep cleaning. We did have a fun time and had a good couple of nights.Scott and Martha were courteous.
fun get-away
Long weekend with teen grandkids and we all had a wonderful time. The kids enjoyed the boat, fishing and swimming. Scott and Martha were great hosts.
Loved the water views
Great water views. Relaxing water sounds. The owners were very helpful with any issues we had. Kids loved the fishing .
Martha and I are very happy that you loved the Blue Heron Cottage. The fishing is great right off the dock and the beach on the lake is a wonderful place for the kids to play and swim. the lake water is so clear and warm. Please come back next year for another wonderful vacation.
Scott and Martha
The nicest people ever, not the greatest rental, but really.
First of all, the owners, Scott and Marti are so nice. It’s hard to write a negative review, but I do want to make sure a few things don’t go unwritten, in case it helps someone make an educated decision when they book. First thing, this house can ONLY be reached by boat or pontoon. There is NO WAY to drive to it and it didn’t say that in the description. A party of eight can’t ride the boat together so you have to wait for them to drive you on their personal pontoon, which they are happy to do but you can’t all ride together so it takes about 60 full minutes for an entire group to get to the house or back to their cars. Also, there is no air conditioner, and it’s HOT up stairs. So hot we took our kids back downstairs and they slept on the floor. If you open the windows to get air literally thousands of mosquitos flood inside. Seriously, thousands. Also, it says washer and dryer but it was nowhere to be seen. Neither is the hammock. We asked several times for promised life jackets to Utilize the canoe, but they never came. The house is functional, but very run down. No blinds or curtains to block sun or the extreme heat. The floors are peeling and the towel racks are falling out of the wall. 1/2 of the provided fans simply don’t work. We didn’t get wine or cheese like the other reviewers have talked about but I don’t care about that. I don’t think it’s a safe place for elderly (my poor hot daddy) or small kids. Such nice people! Wouldn’t rent again. Definitely not worth as much as we paid. Again, the sweetest couple but not a place for a family to vacation.
Martha and I are quite taken back by this review. Not once did our guest mention or complain about anything while they were there. This property is located on an island beach and when you arrive at our marina we take you over on a pontoon boat and get you set up. The ride is normally five minutes however, there is an idle only speed limit on the bay right now because of the flooding . These guys were attending the hill Camorra pageant so we volunteered to move them back-and-forth by Pontoon Boat and pick them up twice at the marina after midnight. We went above and beyond to help these guest out. So much for good old appreciation. Each cottage comes with a 14 foot motor boat to get around in. That boats holds five people not eleven. The cottage sleeps eight not eleven. The temperature here set a record with heat over 110°. I’ll managers are not air-conditioned because most of the time we have a wonderful lake breeze to keep you cool. we supply industrial size fans in each cottage as well and they do work . We did notice that someone in their party broke the towel rack off the bathroom wall . It is now been replaced. The hammock is rolled up and kept beside the front door. The washer and dryer are in the laundry room in our brand new. The canoe is stored under the deck upside down as to not fill up with water when it rains. The lifejackets and paddles are in the canoe. We ferried these guest twice a day in the Pontoon Boat as we volunteered to shuttle them back-and-forth to the marina so they could go to the pageant. We had plenty of quality time together whereas all they had to do was ask and we would’ve simply told them where these things were located . As for the mosquitoes, well I don’t know if you leave the door open during mosquito hour they will come in like anywhere else in the country. As for the mosquitoes, well if you leave the door open during mosquito hour they will come in like anywhere else in the country. I do agree that the cottage could have been in better shape but all five of our cottages were severely flooded this spring with a record high floods. We have been working long hours seven days a week to bring our cottages back up to the high standards we normally provide. We have a priority list and are working our way down the list each and every day . We have had only four and five star reviews this entire season from guest that looked at their wine glass as half full not half empty.
4th of July Weekend on the bay/lake
We loved our stay in the Blue Heron cottage on the weekend of the 4th. The owners were very kind/accommodating. We didn’t see a hot tub or washer and dryer on the property as listed but we never ended up needing either so we didn’t follow up with the owners about it. The location is stunning and the house was clean.
Martha and I are delighted that you enjoyed your stay . I will have to check my listing with a fine tooth comb as the hot tub was removed from the listing two years ago when the flood of 2017 carried it away . You might have seen it in one of the reviews. As for the washer and dryer they are in the. Laundry room which is located on the east side of the house. You must go outdoors in order to get to it. I’m here if you needed it you would’ve found it. We hope you’re able to come back to our wonderful paradise. Thank you for staying with us. Martha and Scott.
