We have spent most of our lives in the East Texas area and currently live in the Ben Wheeler area. Our home is filled with children and we both run successful local businesses.
Lisa Werner purchased this house in 2008
When you stay at our Holly Lake cottage we also include 1/2 price passes to Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge located a short 25 minute drive down highway 14.
Just right for a weekend of peace. We watched deer from the deck, served dinner in the dining room and later spread out a giant puzzle on the table, and lounged in the living room by the fireplace in the evening. Long walks on the trails and through the neighborhood filled the days. Really, a supportive environment for decompressing. Thank you for the flexible dog policy. Tinkerbell enjoyed many naps on the deck.
My son, my parents, and I stayed here Jan 14-16. It rained all weekend but it was a nice, quiet little getaway. Very relaxing. We spent the majority of the weekend in front of the fireplace reading books and just relaxing. The house was really well equipped with everything that we needed. Linens, kitchen supplies, bathroom supplies that. We brought food and made a few meals. I would like to come back in the warmer months. It looks like there are quite a few fun things to do in the area.
This is a nice little cabin as others have described. And while freezing weather is rare in Texas, it does happen. This property is an un-insulated a-frame with lots of windows and doors that let the cold in. We were miserable and couldn't sleep because it was so cold. If indoor temps in the 50's are your comfort level, you will be fine but we had to find another place to stay for our second night. The owner offered to have someone look at the thermostat for us but that was not the problem and we are capable of telling the difference between cool and heat settings.
Also, the owner seemed oddly put out when I asked for location and access info 24 hours before our arrival. Informed me that I had already received that info. Altogether, we wish we had stayed somewhere else.
Place was clean and had everything we needed. Lisa was very accommodating and we really enjoyed our stay.
There are many additional things to enjoy in the nearby town of Tyler. Tyler is home to Caldwell zoo, theaters, shopping, Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge, museums and more!
