About Donna Jarnagin

We live in Tennessee and love visiting The Great Smoky Mountains! Our dream for the last 30 years has been to own a place in the mountains where our family could retreat. When we found Bear Den, we knew this was the place. And you will too! It has everything and more for a family or a couple to enjoy a peaceful, romantic and fun get away to the Mountains. The view is incredible!

Donna Jarnagin purchased this chalet in 2014

Why Donna Jarnagin chose Tennessee

We have visited the Smoky Mountains for most of our lives, taking vacations here every year! When we saw the view, it took our breath away! We particularly like the Cobbly Nob area because it is the 'higher end' side of Gatlinburg and being right across the road from the Great Smoky National Park, it is quiet and private. The property is easy access to Hwy 321 just 10 miles from Downtown Gatlinburg.

What makes this chalet unique

The View, the view, the view! In addition, it has a private hot tub and private MB jacuzzi. There are three outdoor swimming pools in the development and a nice tennis court. The Greenbriar entrance to the National park is less than 5 miles from the front door. It is a great place to enjoy hiking, swimming, picnicking and fishing. It is a quality home with everything a family could want for a fun and comfortable family vacation.

Excellent visit to The Bear's Den

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Bear’s Den as a last minute fill in for our cabin which was cancelled due to damage. While the funds were reimbursed, we were left without a cabin 10 days before we left for vacation. VRBO and The Bear’s Den were very helpful in getting us new accommodations and I couldn’t have been happier. We stayed 6 nights.

The cabin is unique and has beautiful views. I can’t begin to explain the views from the upper deck. It is a full view of the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. You can see the sky change by the minute, the mountain tops and the “smoke.” The cabin itself is fun. The octagon shape is cute, the 360 degree views add to the mountain feel. We all decided, hands down, it is the BEST fire pit that we have ever seen. The sides of the fire ring allow for air to feed the fire from underneath. The owners provided plenty of good dry wood. We had s‘mores and cookouts many nights or just hung out in the evening. Hot dog sticks are in the kitchen under the oven. The stone patio and chairs around the fire pit were very comfortable. There is also a gas grill. The grill was clean and powerful. There is an array of deck furniture to suit any need, mood or occasion. Chairs, chaise loungers, barstool s with 2 small high top tables were perfect for dinner on the deck. The bedrooms are all downstairs and the master has a screened in hot tub off of it but also accessible to others as well. While it was very hot when we were there, we still enjoyed the hot tube most nights. There is also a jacuzi tub off the master bedroom. The beds were all comfortable and each bedroom had a TV. Two full baths downstairs and one upstairs.

You could see a couple of neighbor’s houses but they were quite and friendly and not at all “in the way” of any views or privacy. We had a slight problem and the maintence man was out in about 15 minutes and it was fixed right away. He couldn’t have been nicer or more friendly.

The great room with a pool table kept everyone entertained. The TV looked nice but we didn’t even turn it on. The kitchen had most things you need and some you wouldn’t expect. There was a keurig and a Mr Coffee coffee maker. Filters are provided but bring your own coffee. If there were cutting boards, we couldn’t find them but improvised with a plate. It took us about 15 minutes to get into Gatlinburg but we wanted to be out in nature instead of near the hubbub. While we missed them, there were bears seen right by u

Everything one could want for a stay at a National Park

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed everything about this cabin. The owners were so helpful and full of information. You have everything you need right at this cabin except for the food you bring in. We made S'mores at the fire pit, played pool, sat on the deck for hours looking at the mountains, used the hot tub after hikes to help keep our muscles from being sore, lounged on the sofas, etc.... The Greenbrier section of the park is just down the road and you miss all of that Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge traffic and have all the trails you have time to hike and a river to swim or wade in. There are great restaurants on that end of town so that you don't even have to go into town for meals, plus a great grocery store and a liquor store. If you want to go into town, you can park for free and ride the trolley.

What more could you ask for? We loved it and hope we can go back again soon!!

Great view, good location and family time

  • 4 of 5

We just stayed four nights at bear down! Great location, beautiful views from the wraparound deck. We loved the family room because we could all be together while cooking, eating, watching TV or playing pool as it is one large room.

Nice hot tub and Jacuzzi bath. Owner was very responsive with a couple problems that we had while there. About 20 minutes from downtown Gatlinburg. Great place to stay for family! Good price too!

Great View, peaceful!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay! The views from this property are amazing! It's quiet and peaceful and only minutes from downtown Gatlinburg. Everything was clean, They have the place stocked with everything you need to cook all meals. The hot tub was very relaxing! The beds are comfortable. I slept like a rock. My only regret is that we didn't use the campfire area. We were too tired from hiking, shopping and the aquarium. Donna was very friendly and answered any questions we had! Thanks for helping us have a great vacation!

Great place.

  • 5 of 5

My family had our first family vacation in 14years and got to spend it at Bear Den. The house was immaculate. We had plenty of room for the 6 adults. We were close to everything but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet. I would recommend this unique octagon house to anyone!

We are located on a private, dead end drive. Greenbriar Trail head is located only 5 miles from Bear Den. It has some great day hikes with beautiful spots along the river and streams. A must do for sure.

When our family stays, we love to frequent The Best Italian Restaurant located in the heart of Downtown Gatlinburg. You can park your car and walk to all the shops. There is a chair lift close by as well as a gondolier to take you up to Ober Gatlinburg if you want more touristy things to do. The Ripleys Aquarium is always a fun thing to do for the kids.

Foxfilre Ziplines is not too far and a lot of family fun as well!
