About Nicole Carroll

I'm a Yogi, writer, artist marketing consultant and fundraiser who loves to snow ski, roller-blade, hike, and spend time making great meals with friends. A city girl at heart, I never could have imagined country life but a real outdoors man captured my heart and lured me to the Hudson Valley. The light, the sky, the mountain views all take my breath away on a daily basis. You are going to love your time visiting this region.

Nicole Carroll purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Nicole Carroll chose Hudson Valley

I fell in love with Fishcreek Cottage the moment I first peeked into the windows. I called my realtor and said, I've found the perfect place, let's put in an offer!

What makes this cottage unique

One of the best things about the cottage is its setting, it's on one of those quintessential country roads. A lot of artists make Saugerties home, and our neighbors (many of whom are artists, writers or musicians) are really good people. ;)

Beautiful, calming and well-appointed

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this special cottage! The owner could not have been more accommodating or helpful - she left us a thoughtful note welcoming us and providing us with details about the home. She was very accessible during our travels and stay. The home itself was beautifully furnished, extremely clean and well-appointed. The kitchen was full of light, and stocked with everything we needed for our stay, including coffee, utensils, teas and condiments. The beds were very comfortable, and the rooms were cozy and beautifully decorated. We could not have enjoyed our stay more - everything was as promised online, and exceeded our expectations. We plan to return!

Perfect Long Weekend Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was the second consecutive year we rented Nicole's cottage for a long September weekend (Thurs - Sun) while our daughter competed at the HITS show grounds nearby. After last year's stay, there was no question about renting the same house. Once again, we were happy to be there. The cottage is maintained beautifully and Nicole made sure it was feather-free for us. The location is perfect for anyone showing at HITS, as well as for going into town, shopping, eating etc. Thanks Nicole, for offering such a lovely place to stay while up in your neck of the woods!

Charming place perfectly situated

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is cozy -- well designed and all finishes are top notch. The kitchen is stocked with everything you might need and the bathroom toiletries were a very nice touch. The location makes exploration of the nearby towns a breeze. We found the screened in porch a perfect spot for morning coffee and general relaxing. Would recommend this spot without hesitation.

Lovely place!

The place was lovely, and exactly as depicted in the pictures. It was stylishly furnished, and everything about the home was very comfortable. The screened porch was wonderful to sit out during the evenings. Nicole was also very accessible, and helpful with anything that came up!

The house was perfect for us - comfortable and very well provisioned. Everything is clean and new. The bathroom and kitchen are perfect. Everything you would need, including good quality pots, pans, and cooking utensils, which I find to be rare at vacation rentals. Also, just to note that the shower door opens in both directions, despite what a previous review states. The beds are very comfortable. The location is perfect - only about 10 minutes driving to either Saugerties or Woodstock, each with lots of dining options...our favorite being Miss Lucy's in Saugerties. We eat there without fail every time we come to the area. So so good. About a 4 minute drive to Opus 40, an amazing landscape sculpture. One thing to improve might be to add A/C in either the kitchen or living room. It wasn't too hot when we were there, but I could see that being a potential problem at mid-summer. Also, a few steps down to the lawn and a place to sit closer to the house would be great - it's a little difficult to scramble down the the small slope when it's dewy or wet. Otherwise, we really loved this place and will definitely be back!

Our charming little cottage is located in the heart of the mid-Hudson Valley, exactly 2 hours north of NYC with easy access to everything you came for; nature trails, the Hudson River, Ski Resorts, great shopping and delicious locally grown food.

Ever wonder where NYC gets its water from, up here of course! Head west on RT 28 to experience the majestic Ashokan Reservoir. You will get a breathtaking view of the Catskill Mountains. Plan on walking, roller-blading or biking the flat 5-mile path. Ask a local photographer to point out the bald eagles nest and to give you a peek at their incredible photos.

The cottage is a stone’s throw from Opus 40 sculpture-park, and HITS (Horses in the Sun). I hate to swim in chlorinated water, do you? Stroll up the road about 7 minutes, and dip into a clear, crisp natural swimming hole - aww.

Are you channeling a hippie experience? Head over to Woodstock for a famed Midnight Ramble at Levon Helm's Studios, the legacy lives on. Want to see incredible photographs of Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and others in their hay-day? Check out the lobby of the Bearsville Theater, and stay to hear some great acts.

The Woodstock Playhouse offers delightful plays. Don't forget to take in a concert at Maverick (it isn’t just for chamber music). We just saw our friend master bamboo flautist and saxophone player Steve Gorn - fantastic!

Indulge in a zillion films at the Woodstock Film Festival, or pop over the bridge to the other side of the Hudson for the Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool festival where you might just see Johnny Depp shopping for sheep - I did, really!

In 1777, Kingston, NY (15 min away) was the first capital of NY. You can still walk around some of the beautiful old stone buildings in the Historic Stockade District, which is full of hipsters with a vibrant music scene. Check out Duo Bistro on John Street, or try one of the many new eateries springing up, Yum-Yum noodle bar won’t disappoint. Speaking of music, Pete Seeger folk music and social change, tour the Maritime Museum, home of the famed Hudson River Sloop, Clearwater. Get a bite to eat at Dolce for breakfast or lunch while you're down on the strand in Kingston. All this site seeing in Kingston is making me thirsty, I'm headed to Keegan Ales - our local brew.

Are you afraid of vampires? We aren't. Come to the Saugerties Garlic Festival – need I say more?

By the way did you know that the Hudson River is not just a river, it is a tidal estuary, an arm of the sea where salty seawater meets fresh water running off the land. Make sure to time the tide right for a dry hike out to the Saugerties lighthouse. Bring a picnic for the deck, and say hello to our friends Patrick, Anna and baby Cricket - the littlest lighthouse keeper in NY State.

Are you exhausted yet? I am! Let’s head back to the cottage to kick back, take a spa-shower, pour a glass of something, and watch the neighbor’s goats graze before we figure out whether we want to cook-in, or eat-out before melting into those divine artisan made beds.
