Hannon House is on the river, under the sky where fishing and outdoor fun come naturally. Hannon House is a 116 year old farm house in the style of old rural Montana. The life style and prices reflect the character and unique location of this rare piece of history. If you are looking for a taste of old Montana this is it.
A two bedroom cabin is located adjacent to the original farmhouse at the historic Hannon homestead on the Bitterroot River three miles south of Darby Montana. Settled in the late 1880’s the farm house and grounds sit on the western edge of the Bitterroot River with over 1700 feet of river frontage. Structures on the property date from the 1880's to 1974 including hand hewn log and milled lumber barns and out buildings. The main house was titled in 1900. This is the site of the areas original mercantile and post office. Bordered by the Bitterroot and Sapphire mountains and situated on the Lewis and Clark trail (Really, they walked through the front yard) the house sits in the shadow of Trapper Peak, the highest peak in the Bitterroot Range. The site is located at the confluence of the East fork, West fork and Main branch of the Bitterroot River. This is a taste of old Montana steps from one of the finest native trout streams in the west. This is a working farm including irrigated hay production and garden crops. Property restoration is ongoing and currently in progress. Cabin accommodations are clean and simple with an emphasis on flyfishing, watersports, hiking, hunting, skiing, open space and relaxation. The site is hosted with the property owner residing on the premises. You are free to explore the grounds, fish the river, participate in activities or find the peace that solitude provides. We are 27 miles from Lost Trails Powder Mountain ski resort. Restaurants and shopping are located within 3 miles in the town of Darby.
Born and raised in the western states I have traveled its beaches, mountains and deserts looking for special places and unique environments. Now semi-retired I enjoy sharing this special place with visitors new and old while restoring this property to its original character.
Steve Lilburn purchased this cabin in 2003
Known for its flyfishing history and historic ruggedness this area attracts visitors from around the world looking for a taste of the old west and a chance to catch a native born westslope cutthroat, rainbow, brown, brook and bull trout. I bought this property to preserve its uniqueness and share its character with others.
1700 feet of river front, boat launch, casting pond, at the confluence of the east fork, west fork and main branch of the Bitterroot River. Twenty seven miles from some of the greatest powder skying in southwest Montana, Lost Trails Powder Mountain. Close enough to all that's important, just far enough away from all that's not.
The accommodations were perfect for our family of four. Right on the Bitterroot River. The fishing and hiking are so incredible. The owners are so laid back and helpful. A nice fire outside every night. We could not have had a better experience! We will definitely be back.
Steve and Kim are great hosts. Came to fly fish for a week on the infamous Bitterroot and couldn't have asked for more from our stay. The lodging and property have a nice, easy feel and fires were burning every night when we arrived back. Highly Recommended!
Our 6 day stay at Cutthroat Cabin was marvelous. The property is a wonderful respite, providing all kinds of perks for the outdoor enthusiast, is beautifully maintained, and our host, Steve Lilburn, could not have been more accommodating and helpful, making sure all our needs, and then some, were met. We are returning next year! We would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. You will not be disappointed.
Beautiful area and location, shaded area with a campfire every night, fishing on the river, and Steve is a fantastic host that helped us enjoy the park and fishing. Will be back!
Steve is a great host and his spread adjacent to the Bitterrootis 20 acres of heaven. Our accommodations were clean and fully equipped. I will be back in the near future.
I was looking to add a new ski slope to my resume, Lost Trail Powder Mountain. I found this location to be close and affordable. Booked three nights and ended up staying 6. Steve, the host, could not have been more accommodating. Besides the great skiing, the Hannon House location was right on the Bitterroot River. I had an extra bonus due to the Hannon House being in the "banana belt" of Montana, I got to go trout fishing in February! No matter what time of year, this is a nice getaway for adventure seekers with skiing, hiking, and exploring at your doorstep. Will be back!
