Nice, efficient casita with super friendly hosts

  • 5 of 5

My husband, son and I greatly enjoyed our brief stay at the Casita in Packwood. The Andersons are wonderful hosts - friendly and accommodating. The casita is very well-appointed with all of the conveniences of home and a hot tub! Our location was also very conducive to exploring Mount Rainier National Park. The first morning we got up early to hike in the park and it was raining. Glenda was nice enough to loan us rain gear and an additional hat! We appreciated her and John's thoughtfulness. We hope to come back when we have more time to explore this part of Washington!

Very clean, comfortable, and peaceful stay with kind and helpful hosts

  • 5 of 5

I stayed for three days over the Thanksgiving holidays with two kids and a dog. My kids are older but it would also be a perfectly comfortable place for younger kids. The minute we walked in, my kids were delighted; it’s very comfortable. One of the reasons I chose this place was because it has real beds for the kids—no fighting over who has to sleep on the sofa bed—score!

The place is clean and very well-stocked. The kitchen is small and doesn’t have a range/oven but they make up for it with two programmable induction hot plates and a combination microwave/convection oven, plus several good-quality small appliances. It works: you can do real cooking from scratch here.

The yard is a beautifully maintained courtyard, with Glenda and John in the big house and the casita on the other side, and fenced all around so the local elk won’t get in. Outside are several other houses and lots of wilderness. I thought this place had a lot of nice extra touches, and for anything we needed, we just had to ask and it appeared.

Glenda took us on a walk through the woods behind the house, showing us the trails, and later the kids and I also walked across the street to the river, which is beautiful. The nature around there had a calming effect on all of us.

Before we came, Glenda asked me what road we planned to take into town, and I only said where we were coming from, not understanding that wasn’t enough information. I recommend telling her the actual road you’ll be taking. We ended up following Google directions through a long winding road in the dark, through a deep forest with very little traffic, that was down to one lane because of snow and had no cell service (Skate Creek Road, also known as NF-52). We made it just fine but I wouldn’t do that again. We took that road out again during the day and it’s beautiful—I recommend it in the daytime! The other thing I wouldn’t do again is leave my tire chains at home in the winter. We didn’t need them but we easily could have.

I appreciate candid reviews and so I leave candid reviews, but I don’t have one single negative thing to say about this place (except that we had to leave). When we left, Glenda surprised us with a loaf of homemade bread, still warm from the oven. The kids started lobbying me to come back before we even left and I feel the same way. I can’t imagine anyone not finding this place delightful in every way.

Owner's Response: Julia, We were glad you chose our Casita so we could meet. You were so delightful and your daughters very respectful and your dog was so quiet. I was so thankful you asked if I needed anything from the grocery store as I was just in the middle of cooking our Thanksgiving dinner and needed a few items, so thank you once again for getting them for me. We are always amazed of people coming such long distance to stay here and blessed when we get to meet them. If you ever decide to come again you will be glad to know we ordered a new hot tub and should be here within a month. Also bought a new potato peeler, have it in the drawer waiting for you. :) A special thanks to the three of you for cleaning so thoroughly in the Casita. Say if you ever need a new job I could hire you to clean for us. :) Take care and thank again, Glenda and John

Lovely Casita Nestled in the Cowlitz River Valley

The casita is great little space for a quiet weekend in the mountains. Our hosts were delightful and accommodating. We'll definitely be back for our next excursion to Mt Rainier and ski country.

Owner's Response: Eric & Nicole, Thanks so very much for the gleaming reviews both in our guestbook in the Casita and online. It was great meeting you and so glad you had the deserved break that you need from your careers. I think Jangles is ready for some doggie friends now. ☺ Thanks for leaving the Casita so clean and you left some green backs on the counter. Thanks so much for your first you generosity. Hope to see you both again. Glenda & John PS We took the for sale sign down.

Wonderful Quiet Separate Dwelling

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely home away from home. After hiking and touring Mt Rainier National Park it was delightful to return to this quiet, comfortable, clean cottage. It was well equipped for cooking, the bathroom was clean and accessible, and the beds comfortable. The owners live in a separate house on the property and were there to welcome us and answer our questions. They were very helpful, available, and courteous. We enjoyed visiting with them; they helped make our stay even more enjoyable.

Great place to stay. Everything needed to enjoy our time there. Loved the hot tub after our hike.

  • 5 of 5

The location, condition and amenities were all superior. The location, though a few minutes out of the way, is quiet and the setting is pretty and peaceful. Would have enjoyed spending even more time there.

The hosts are super nice and informative. And we were able to come and go without feeling like we might be disturbing them.

It was a great place for my daughter and I, and would also be great for a family. Everything we needed for food prep in the kitchen and pantry, and a good selection of coffees for the Keurig coffee maker.

Would definitely recommend and would like to stay there again if we are in the area.

The nicest hosts

We had a fantastic stay in this clean and comfortable cottage with lots of personality. Glenda went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. She obviously puts a lot of care into the casita and it shows. Our toddler keeps asking to go back to Glenda's house!
