The Family bought this lovely house 15 years ago and we spent time there regularly. There is a yearly maintenance program and over the years we have restored this house to its former glory - sympathetically decorated, we ensure its in keeping with its heritage and at the same time modernising this lovely house to ensure it has all mod cons and is very comfortable.
Cathryn purchased this chateau / country house in 2000
It was love at first sight - beautiful architecture, large spacious rooms, fabulous gardens and views with peace and quiet yet close to the village of Polperro with its historical Inns, restaurants, harbour and independent shops and cafes.
The house has 8 bedrooms all with en suite so is the ideal house for large family gatherings. Over the 15 years hundreds of families have loved staying here and I think that adds to the atmosphere and is why our guests call it Lovely Landaviddy. We love this part of Cornwall as it is so accessible to all Cornwall has to offer and very beautiful - close to beaches and coast and yet ideally located for a day trip to Eden Project or Heligan Gardens..
We all feel that your Landaviddy website needs to be upgraded. Most places look better on the internet and are a disappointment when you actually see them
but Landaviddy was the complete opposite. We were blown away by the charm of the house and the loveliness of the gardens and we don't think your website does
We booked the house for a weekend stay in November with a group of 16 for a 40th Birthday celebration and had an amazing time. The house is full of character, we particularly liked the bar! The kitchen is lovely and loads of space to all eat together in the dining room. The bedrooms were also really great with most having an ensuite or a private bathroom. Polperro is a lovely little village, nice shops and great pub the Blue Peter. Went walking along the coast path from the village and found a lovely little beach at Talland Bay. Would highly recommend Landaviddy and hope to return again next year!
Four generations of my family stayed in the manor house and the cottage to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. We had a lovely time, the house is well equipped and very comfortable. The aga in the kitchen kept lovely and warm, Dougie is on hand if there are any issues or if you need more wood. The bedrooms were lovely, all with their own bathroom most of which were en-suite. A handy downstairs bedroom with a four poster bed for my mother which she loved. The cottage was well equipped too and very comfortable. We enjoyed the hot tub even in the rain.
Polperro is a lovely place, very hilly with tiny narrow roads. The sat nav will take you through Polperro which is quite difficult but you can avoid this by checking a map. The walk into the town was down quite a steep hill but you can drive to a car park on the edge of the town and catch the tram to the centre.
I recommend Landaviddy Manor to those wishing to stay in a picturesque location in Cornwall but be aware that the walk although quite short into Polperro is quite steep so you need to be reasonably fit or drive to the car park.
I have recently stayed at Landaviddy Manor with a group of 21 of my walking friends. We had a really good time and enjoyed the space the Manor had to offer, particularly the beautiful gardens which were so well cared for. Unfortunately, I am sorry to say, the Manor itself lacked the same attention.
Firstly everywhere, including the Cottage is in dire need of a professional deep clean. The windows, frames, doors and paintwork (inside and out) looked like they have not been cleaned for years. There were cobwebs throughout the whole of the Manor and cottage. The bedroom on the ground floor had a terrible smell of urine so we had to put in a de-humidifier, which did improve it slightly. The kitchen, although well equipped was not particularly clean. We washed all the pots before we felt we wanted to use them, and gave the table and surfaces a thorough clean with hot soapy water as they looked and felt sticky and unclean.
Unfortunately there were no cleaning products other than washing up liquid. The sink needed bleach, as did some of the toilets. A soiled bikini bottom was found in a draw in one bedroom, and dirty tissues, sweet papers and other things were found under beds, as well as a thick build-up of fluff. One of the group spent 3 hours cleaning her room as she felt she could not stay in there due to the accumulated grime. There were no basic soaps, or shampoo - as advertised - in any room or bathroom and some of the showers had just a trickle of water, due to the heads being clogged up - the water pressure was fine.
On the positive side - although some beds were rather hard, the bedding was clean. The rooms were mainly a good size, the lounge was big enough to accommodate us all, the bar was very useful, and the Manor was a perfect size for our requirements.
If you require the oil-fired Aga to be working, then I suggest you request that before you arrive, as the only cooking appliance we had was a 4 ring electric stove. We, as a group do our own cooking for the majority of the time so definitely needed the Aga to be working. After a phone call to Dougie, he did come over to light it the following day, but it took 12 hours to heat-up!
On a final note… Apart from the cleanliness and one or two other things, that could fairly easily be rectified, the majority of our group really liked the Manor. So come on Landaviddy, with a little more attention given to this lovely property, it could be a beautiful place to stay.
We stayed her for my hen weekend, 12 adults 2 kids and a baby, everybody love the place and we had a brilliant weekend, a short down hill walk into polperro (Quite steep for the walk back) which is lovely as well,
Cathryn was amazing and answered any questions promptly when I emailed her, when we arrived (we were early)I think his name Dougie anyway he was the groundsman was lovely enough to show us a different way out avoiding polperro centre, let us all follow him so we all knew the way,
Thank you Landaviddy for making my hen weekend enjoyable
Our stay at Landaviddy Manor was perfect - the house is incredibly charming with beautiful gardens and every amenity you could require for a wonderful weekend in one of the most quaint villages in Cornwall. The house is located on the hill above the village just far enough to feel like you have peace and isolation, but close enough to be a short (but admittedly steep) walk to the village.
The house itself is incredibly charming. Many bedrooms and bathrooms. A well equipped kitchen and loads of seating for dinner. The house even has it's own little bar and mini pub that connects to the garden.
Cathryn was extremely responsive and lovely to work with. She made sure everything was perfect for our arrival and very accommodating to our group.
I would recommend the house for large groups for a weekend retreat, weddings, or anyone that appreciates the charm of a country mansion in a beautiful cornish village.
Our first family Christmas together with 3 generations !
We were all so excited about getting away from London and spending some quality time together in THE MANOR.
The property is perfect for Christmas , with all the food and drinks and the amazing fireplaces !
I truly believe as soon as I saw the words Fireplaces , Hot tub and sea views .. I was sold.
The property was easy to find with a Sat Nav , just stick to the directions and you will be fine!
The rooms were perfect sizes and facilities were good. Beds were nice and comfy , no complaints!
It couldn't have been easier getting information that was needed to book , organise extra cots for the babies and sorting out the temperature of the hot tub! Bless him , the gardener / groundsman Dougie was so patient and helpful , any thing we needed , he would do his best !
I think it would be amazing in the summer as they have great facilities.
Cathryn , the manager was so helpful from the beginning right through to the end.
My highlights were sitting in front of the fireplace with a glass of Champagne , dipping into the hot tub and making good use of the dining room !
Don't think too long about it, JUST BOOK!
