About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Sleeps 4, 900 Sqft, Deck View, Carport

(Note: ***Ask about Early Checkout options. If your schedule only allows 7-29 days, even though we have to block full month, may be able to accommodate with some flexibiilty.***)

If you are drawn, as we are, to the modern decor of hotels such as The Aloft or the Hotel Indigo in downtown Asheville, you may enjoy the mod sensibilities we applied in this space - but with a full kitchen and off-street, non-valet parking, if that's more your speed.

Features of this centrally located home include clean, open floor plan, with up-to-date kitchen and bathrooms. You will be close to everything Asheville has to offer, yet nestled in a secluded wooded neighborhood, 2 miles North of downtown. Enjoy our hanging chair swing as an extra relaxing spot on the private deck, with a treed mountain view toward the Grove Park area. It feels calm and relaxing, just like being in a treehouse, especially while chilling in the swing chair!

Accommodations include a queen Venezia bed (New Morning Gallery), and a second bedroom with two twin beds. All new hygienic memory foam mattresses and comfortable linens provided. Single car covered carport and one-level living space. In unit laundry included, with new appliances.

The well-appointed kitchen provides cookware, dishware, utensils, and linens to support a comfy stay, with multiple grocery stores within 1.5 miles (including Trader Joes, with two in under a mile). Great for savoring tasty leftovers from so many foodie locations around town, or for preparing to eat-in when so inspired. Kitchen has counter-height seating at the island/prep table.

This quiet home is half of a side-by-side duplex, with private entrances and carports at each end of the building, and excellent built-in soundproofing between the units. Driveway is shared, and courtesy to not block your neighbor's access is appreciated.

Find enhanced and timely dining and activity recommendations for things that we enjoy, on the "Mod Treehouse in N Asheville" Facebook page,

and message Cindy there for any questions we can help with as you make your Asheville visiting plans.

The Mod "Treehouse" is required to be a monthly rental, i.e. each guest blocks a month minimum on our calendar. However, we can usually work with guests to Pre-Arrange EARLY CHECKOUT options to help with guest's traveling necessities. Contact Cindy for details and invoicing adjustments if your stay needs reasonable accommodations to flex for a duration of 7-29 days, if you just can't arrange to stay a full 30 days. We'll see what we can do.

In addition, NC regulations allow for any stay longer than 90 days to not require State/County sales and occupancy tax - so if guests want to chill or telework a little longer, that is a 14% savings in taxes. Contact Cindy (owner) to arrange your visit details.

About Cynthia Coker (Owner/Manager)

We are Cindy and Lucinda, two NASA engineers, eleven years into our twelve year plan, transitioning to making Asheville our full-time home in 2018. Between us, we have a combined 70 years of service with NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center, supporting primarily scientific experiment/instrument and facility payloads from early SpaceLab days and the Shuttle Program, and the International Space Station Program.

Cynthia Coker (Owner/Manager) purchased this villa in 2014

Why Cynthia Coker (Owner/Manager) chose North Carolina

We have been spending several dozens of days a year in Asheville, since 2006. Our first home here was in West Asheville, an amazing part of town. Yet we are drawn to mid century modern architectural styles, and had noticed a sprinkling of these homes in North Asheville years ago.

Our second Asheville home was next door to this, and we originally bought the Mod Treehouse building so we could redraw the property line to widen our driveway and build a garage at our house next door (and partly because we could tell it was falling into disrepair). We fully renovated both the house (2011-2013) and the duplex (2014), then ended up changing houses to a different one 3 miles away in 2015. So we are nearby but no longer next door.

What makes this villa unique

We love the up-in-the-trees "treehouse" feel, the quiet serenity, Lucinda's clean interior design and decor selections. And the close proximity to downtown, great food, and views from being uphill from Merrimon Avenue. Check out the Mod "Treehouse" on facebook for seasonal activities and dining recommendations via https://www.facebook.com/modAVLtreehouse/

Guestbook comments from the manager

I came to Asheville to work on the Martin McDonagh movie 3 Billboards. I stayed here for about 2 months. I was very happy here. The privacy, the rain, the sounds of birds made this place a memorable home. Thanks Girls!

(and the Girls say - can't wait to see the movie when released! and thanks for the book note and the online review. Very kind.)

You'll want to stay here forever!

  • 5 of 5

The location, views, and decor are pure perfection! I loved my long-term stay in the Mod Treehouse and didn't want to leave. I spent countless hours on the deck overlooking the neighboring mountain, enjoying the sounds of nature and privacy surrounding me. This quiet, safe neighborhood in North Asheville is central to all the attractions yet offers a secluded feel like a retreat. The kitchen is well equipped for dining in, the beds are comfy and cozy, and the decor offers a soothing, zen-like atmosphere. The owners are very friendly and were happy to offer flexible dates to accommodate my travel schedule. I can't wait to come back to this sweet place!

Loved the Mod Treehouse

  • 5 of 5

The mod treehouse has everything for a wonderful trip to Asheville. We loved it! The location—high in the hills—offers a quiet oasis that is close to everything. Restaurants, take-out, groceries, and shopping are minutes away. The location is also convenient to downtown and West Asheville. The deck offers magnificent views, and a short walk up the hill yields a view of the entire Asheville skyline and surrounding mountains. Once inside, we were greeted with a stylish and modern décor that was also comfortable and inviting. The home was immaculate with new appliances, memory foam beds, and two full bathrooms—one for each bedroom. The owners obviously took great care in decorating the space and included special pieces made by Asheville artists and craftspeople. They were helpful and responsive when we needed anything. We will definitely stay in the mod treehouse again when we return to Asheville.

Owner's Response: Very kind - thanks for the thoughtful and thorough review, Jennifer! I'm late in saying so - it's easier to see this on a laptop, I'm learning - not so visible to owners/managers on the phone app. Thanks much! Cindy (owner)

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the review last summer, Cydney. I've taken over managing our place, after Tom's excellent help, and am digging in and finding more parts of the homeaway software on my laptop that wasn't readily apparent in the phone app. Appreciate your kindness and am glad you had a good and productive visit! thanks, Cindy (owner)

A hideaway with a view but close to everything

  • 4 of 5

So we have been to Asheville since 1993 and since 2001 every year. We have done B&B's and hotels and motels but VRBO has been the best. This was a brand new 2 bedroom right off Marrimon and close to downtown and Grove Park Inn and Bear Lake( Great Walk) lots of good Breakfast And Lunch Places nearby. Within 10 minutes you are are in downtown with wonderful restaurants and art galleries. Very basic comfortable and clean. Washer dryer a plus.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review, Sky! We've taken your suggestion and added a few games, AND just turned on cable TV (in addition to the cable internet for Smart-TV streaming subscriptions). We also swapped out the mod egg chair for a pair of comfy swivel/rocker easy chairs. Appreciate the kind words and first review! --- Cindy

We only rent our home once every thirty days, in that each rental blocks a 30 day period to comply with local regulations. Monthly rental is preferred (and common - folks like to stay with us for 1-6months at a time generally). Any stay under 90 days requires payment of NC and Buncombe County Sales and Occupancy taxes (14%), so there is a nice tax savings if you are able to stay 90 days. We have had a number of teleworking professionals stay with us for that duration.

In addition, we are willing to discuss accommodating EARLY CHECKOUT OPTIONS for between seven and 29 days, if that is helpful to our guests. Adjusted early checkout rates include: 7 nights at $200/night, 8-14 nights at $160/night, 15-21 nights at $130/night. To negotiate for any reasonable schedule accommodation and corresponding rate differences, text Cindy at 256-679-1681 and we can discuss what options are available. Essentially, since we block a month minimum for all guests, shorter stays via Pre-Arranged Early Checkout, result in a higher daily average, than if they can stay for the entire blocked month. Reasonable accommodation typically is doable.

Manager's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
