Description

Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday home in Walpole - 2 Main Street

Charming Home In Historic Walpole Village - Sleeps 10

The home was built in 1854 and is fully updated with many of its original features intact. If you are interested in a village rental it is in a terrific location in town where a very good coffee shop is steps away as are several good restaurants and a very good, small high quality grocery and butcher. Walpole is an absolutely beautiful, very well preserved historical town with a colonial common. This is an all-seasons location. Enjoy snowshoeing, snowmobiling and skiing in Winter, leaf peeping, apple and pumpkin picking in fall, swimming holes, mountain biking, kayaking, and year-round hiking at nearby Mt. Ascutney or Mount Manadnock. Conveniently located on the border of Vermont with easy access to both Brattleboro, VT and Keene, NH.

It's also a great house/base to ski from given the number of Southern Vermont and New Hampshire ski areas that are reasonably close. Those who want to ski can do so while others in the family/group can shop or pursue other activities.

Suitability:
  • children welcome
  • limited accessibility

Perfect New England Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I booked 2 Main Street for a reunion with five friends who were coming from the US, Canada and Europe. We loved the place. It was better than I had expected. The house was well appointed, the beds were comfortable, and the kitchen and sitting areas were spacious. We loved being able to walk into Walpole for coffee, groceries and shopping, and we had a great time at Alyson Orchards one afternoon. When we had a question about the TV, Andy responded quickly to my email. I'd recommend this rental to any group. Families with very small children might want to take a look at the bedroom layout, since there are two bedrooms in one wing and three in another, and they are widely separated.

Great location not far from Alyson's Orchard where wedding was held, the family stayed at home. there was eight total and was comfortable for all of us, especially the kitchen/dining area. we could walk to town for lunch and dinner and just relax on the side porch.

Wonderful property in a great location.

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property in August for my nephew's wedding in nearby Putney, Vermont. The house is absolutely beautiful, well supplied and very clean. It offered enough bedrooms and bathrooms for my husband and I and our three adult sons and girlfriends, with a large kitchen and eating area. We could easily walk to the village for lunch (Walpole Village Grocery--great sandwiches) and just to stroll. The owner provided excellent information about local grocery stores, hiking opportunities, restaurants and more. We would love to return to Walpole and stay in this house again.

Great Family Vacation Home

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the home with relatives, 4 adults and 5 kids, and there was plenty of room for everyone. My wife and I slept in the studio and it was really quiet. The house is nicely updated but still has a classic New England feel. The owner was very helpful and responsive to all our questions. Walpole is a lovely town with an excellent chocolate shop, also a nice grocery & cafe.

Just right for multi-generational family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Six adults and three kiddos under three enjoyed this house for a week. It was great to have a variety of spaces for everyone, and we made ample use of the big kitchen table for most of our meals as well as dominos into the evening. The house had everything we needed, and apple picking, fresh corn and peaches were all close by. Our group also enjoyed being able to walk to get coffee, groceries, and of course visit Burdick's, since some of our littles don't yet have the concept of sleeping in for vacation. Joanie Joan's was a particularly lovely morning stop, and we pushed strollers down a variety of lovely streets. There was even a bike ride to the playground at the elementary school. The owners were kind and quickly responsive when we had questions, and everything was just right. It was a very hot week for weather, so we did end up purchasing an extra fan for ourselves. Thank you to Andy and Mary Beth for a great vacation house!

Extended family wedding stay

  • 5 of 5

This was a great house for different members of our extended family to come together for a wedding. There is plenty of room to spread out with two sitting rooms and two separate bedroom wings providing privacy and a quiet place to get away if desired. The kitchen is spacious and built for entertaining a large group for mealtimes, which we did, including a surprise birthday dinner. Everyone was very pleased with their accommodations . It was clean, comfortable, interesting, and welcoming. The owner was also very helpful when needed. I would recommend this house to anyone, particularly friends or family groups who don't want the formality and impersonal nature of a hotel.
