About Alice Martin

We were weekenders for many years, but finally decided to build our dream home on the property in 2008. Mark is a Washington University professor, and Alice is a substitute teacher in the local area. We love it here!

Alice Martin purchased this house in 1996

Why Alice Martin chose Missouri

This property was purchased because of the natural beauty of the area. The area is covered with oaks, hickories and cedar trees, as well as many native wildflowers. The convenience of I-44 close by was an added benefit.

What makes this house unique

This home is secluded, private and very, very quiet. The natural environment is restful and restorative. You can be as isolated as you like, or you can choose to be a tourist and get out to numerous attractions, it is all up to you!

Wonderful seclusion!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a couple of nights with our dog and just loved it! This house was clean and nicely decorated and the property was very well attended. We walked the trails through the 70 acres and it was quiet (except for the occasional cow mooing in the distance, which we loved), well maintained, and completely private! Our dog absolutely loved it also. The sheets were soft, the kitchen was well equipped and firewood was provided for the wood stove and fire pit next to the dock. Loved that there was no television or internet. No distractions while sitting on porch with our coffee, just peacefulness. We definitely think it was a good value and a would recommend to others.

Wonderful little lake house!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect lake house for our family of four! The lake great, lots of fishing. My kids loved meeting little critters outside (a toad and tiny lizards). Loved the book and game selection. The linens were very well stocked! Overall, it was a clean, comfortable and well maintained little house. Perfect for a relaxing weekend to unplug and just hang.

Peaceful, private, clean, perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Much enjoyed time away from everything and everyone except my dog. We hiked, he swam in the lake, we relaxed on the porch. No internet, no cars, no people. Perfect, glorious solitude. Exactly what I needed to re-charge. Can't wait for my next retreat.

Many thanks to the hosts for providing this space.

Quiet, comfortable & affordable.

  • 4 of 5

The house & property are well maintained & offer plenty to do. Besides all of the outdoor activities, the porch & inside are great for reading (book shelf w/ many books provided), playing board games (many games to choose from) or a long snooze.

Another great feature is the shared pantry. Collected from items left by previous guests, it definitely saved me some trips into town.

I'll definitely be back.

Perfect Honeymoon!

  • 5 of 5

We came here the day after our wedding and stayed for 4 nights. We chose it because it was so secluded and pet friendly so we could bring our dog too. We had so much fun going out on the lake in both the kayaks and canoe. When it rained a little we just relaxed on the patio and played board games. The kitchen and grill were enough to cook some amazing meals too. We went fishing and caught a really big catfish along with lots of bluegills. Watch out for spiders/webs on the hiking trails. This place is perfect to unwind and connect with nature as well as the company you are with. Highly recommended!!
