The property has a large indoor pool, piano, large horseshoe bar, two kitchens, huge living and dining area, recreation room with ping-pong, DVD, Direct TV, and nine private bedrooms (10 beds), each with its own full bath (Exception: two adjoining rooms on the second floor share a bathroom). New Orleans-styled decor throughout. Wi-Fi is available throughout the house. The home is across the street from Pascal's Manale and Charlie's Steakhouse. French Truck Coffee, Il Posto - a french cafe, and Polite Society - a spa and salon are two blocks down on Dryades. Walk three blocks to the St. Charles Streetcar and head to the French Quarter, or hang out on nearby Magazine Street and Freret Street. This is a true, unique New Orleans experience.

The home's history:
4417 Dryades, like much of New Orleans, has an ambience all its own, with architectural features of different historical periods.
In the early 1900s, the Mexican Counsel to the United States purchased the property. A ceramic-tile pool with a unique domed ceiling were added in 1927. In 1972, the building was sold to become one of the first in a series of indoor scuba diving schools. Prior to our recent renovations, the property was a clothing-optional Bed & Breakfast.
Contact owner for festival rates. Festival rates are higher than the listed rates.
We are licensed with the city and have recently passed inspections by the city and state fire marshals. Certified fire extinguishers are mounted throughout the house and a fire alarm system was recently installed.
Todd, Dustin, and Kristin loved the history of the home and bought it in 2014.
Dustin Grove purchased this house in 2014
It is such a unique place with old New Orleans warmth, an indoor pool, and nine nice, comfortable individual rooms. The back patio is cozy and the backyard and large deck are comfortably spacious. The pool is 40' by 16'.
Three blocks from the St. Charles street car. Ten blocks from Magazine street where shopping and restaurants are abundant. La Boulangerie, a french bakery, is nearby and was voted best bakery in New Orleans. The property is across from Pascale's Manale and Charlie's Steak House. IL Posto Cafe, a great coffee house restaurant, is three blocks away on Dryades serving great sandwiches, salads, and wine.
We LOVED this house! My daughter had a destination wedding in New Orleans (we are from SC). Both sets of parents and closest friends/family stayed here - 18 in all. The best part was the fact that the gathering area (around the bar and indoor pool) was perfect for friends to drop by and speak, have a drink, and enjoy each other's company. Dustin (the owner) was absolutely wonderful to work with, and accommodated our every need. Leo, the caretaker, and historian, was so helpful. He gave a great tour and checked on us prior to leaving to see if we had any questions. This house is perfect for couples, large families, or reunions. I highly recommend it and hope to one day go back! Only a couple of blocks from the St. Charles streetcar line, so very easy to get around. Each room in the house was unique and everyone enjoyed it.
What a great way to spend time with 17 friends and family for our 25th wedding anniversary celebration! From the ease of making reservations with Dustin, the owner, to our arrival and tour of the home with Leo, the house manager, everything during our 4-day stay was fantastic. With plenty of privacy for each couple yet ample space for everyone to congregate, the house was amazing.
Each room has a private bathroom with tub or shower and plenty of towels. No need to pack a blow dryer, iron, shampoo or anything. The main kitchen became everyone's go-to spot to get the day started and the pool bar inevitably became the late night go-to spot to close out the night. The only thing you need to bring is groceries IF you want to cook, but if not, restaurants are literally steps away. The kitchens (yes, there's more than one) have every utensil, dish, or appliance you need.
The location is just a 2-block walk to the trolley stop at St Charles and Napolean, so the trolley route was an easy way to get downtown, to the Quarter, river front, casino or where ever you want to go. We pre-purchased Jazzy passes (3-day passes) for our guests to use so they could come and go as they pleased and no one had to worry about driving (which can be tricky with some of the very narrow and congested NOLA streets)
The private back/court yard provided us with an intimate space to have our vow renewal ceremony and then the main living area inside provided us with ample space for a small reception. I think we utilized just about every aspect of the home, except the backyard grill....but probably would have used that if we'd stayed longer. Even the washer and dryer was available for use if needed.
Our friends and family were just amazed and repeatedly kept talking about how great the house was and how nice it was to have room for everyone to relax, without being stuck in hotel rooms.
Dustin was simply great to work with during the reservation process and was quick to respond to any email questions. Leo is a wealth of information when he gives you the house tour and we had access to him 24/7. With a very minor plumbing problem we had the first night, he responded immediately and fixed the issue within minutes.
We had never rented a home or used HomeAway, but thanks to our stay at the Blue Lagoon in NOLA and the ease of working with Dustin, we will definitely consider it again. If you have a chance to book this house, DO IT. You won't regret it!
We are a disaster relief organization and had a group of college students coming in to volunteer for an alternative winter break trip. From our first contact with Dustin, he was incredibly responsive and accommodating in making sure all of our needs were met.
The property itself is magnificent with so much character to it! It is walking distance to cafes and restaurants, and just a short ride away from the French Quarter. I would highly recommend to any large group visiting the area.
Our immediate and extended family of fifteen gathered from Ohio, Georgia, Virginia and Iowa to spend time together in New Orleans. The property turned out to be perfect for us. Full of unique rooms and nooks to discover.
There was more than ample space for lounging and sleeping. We loved happy hours at Pascal’s Manale across the street, and walked to Superior Seafood two nights in a row. The property was conveniently located for quick trips to morning coffee places. Some stayed behind and had breakfast by the pool. We had great days at City Park, the WWII museum, and French Quarter. The streetcar was a fun way to get around. We’d like to come and experience Mardi Gras in New Orleans sometime.
As expected the house was old. However a musty odor was prevalent in every room. Almost every bathroom had tubs that were peeling and shower heads that seemed to be rigged up poorly. My bathroom had a urinal which smelled so badly I had to share a bathroom with another person. The heat in the house could not be adjusted properly. Almost every bedroom reached a temperature over 85 degrees every night. Leo tried to accommodate us but it was never fixed. The beds were like sleeping on springs. The grounds and surrounding areas were not kept up very well. Overall this was not an enjoyable stay. We rent homes all over the U.S. a few times each year with most being exactly as expected. This house did not live up to the description nor price paid.
Our family of 16 stayed in this great house for Thanksgiving. Everyone loved the pool and all of the space. The house has a few quirks, but they added to the charm. Leo was very helpful. Only thing to note is there is now only one kitchen which doesn't have much counter space - which made cooking Thanksgiving dinner a little more complicated.
Some of these services are on demand and extra, of course.
