Loved the apartment!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was very comfortable, located on the 3rd floor, very quiet (even in a noisy neighborhood) and absolutely spotless. Carmen was very helpful on site and Guiseppe was extremely responsive. The location can not be beat. We had 2 adults and a teenager. Our daughter slept on the rollaway bed in the kitchen area. It was cozy but we had enough room and rolled the bed away when not in use. The bathroom has a pedestal sink but there is adequate storage on the window sill and medicine cabinet. I recommend this apartment and would definitely stay there again!

Perfect location - great apartment

  • 5 of 5

I just came back from my holidays and HAD to leave a review for this apartment.

I had read a few bad comments in previous reviews so I had my concerns... but everything was perfect during my stay from the first second.

The owner gives you very precise details of what the apartment contains and where it is located, the instructions of how to get the keys are very clear also. So as soon as we were leaving the airport, we contacted Carmen (super nice lady) and her daughter opened us the door when we reached the building and gave us the keys. Both were very kind and helpful in our stay.

The pictures posted are pretty similar to what the apartment looks at the moment but you can notice it has been renewed and it looks even better!!!

Location is ideal - pretty close to everything and you have a subway station a few meters from the apartment (you can get almost everywhere from there). The only "bad thing" about the location is that it is crowded (hello! you are in the centre of NYC! so this fact is pretty obvious). Another "bad thing" is that sometimes you get to see some homeless people wandering around but truely they are harmless - we were two girls on our own and nothing happened and never felt insecure (eventhough some days we reached late at night), the area is very safe, also the building (you can see security cameras inside).

The apartment was very very clean - a key point from my perspective.

We had two towels per person which was more than enough. Toilet paper, shampoo, shower gel, etc etc etc. Even there were two umbrellas in the closet! (thankfully we didn't need them)

Bathroom is really nice - water pressure is excellent :)

Kitchen has almost everything you will need. We didn't get the chance to use the oven but you can see it is newer than in the pics. We used the microwave and it worked perfectly. Fridge was great waiting with ice cubes for us (we DID need some ice to get something fresh when we reached).

Bed is comfortable, TV works fine, wifi works fine as well. Also AC works great!

I have no complains at all. This apartment made my stay in NYC even better!!!

I would definitely recommend this to my friends (we already did honestly).

Thank you so much Giuseppe for all your patience. And also to Carmen and her daughter!!!

Wonderful stay! Great location!!

  • 4 of 5

Everything from the beginning to the end of my stay here, was great. Guiseppe took good care of me and was available whenever I had a question.

The location is great for the price! In any large city, especially near a major port terminal, there are sometimes going to be questions characters. I was in a walking boot recovering from a broken ankle during my visit. Eye contact and acknowledgement towards those hanging around the front, was all it took and never had any problems with anyone. If you're scared of your own shadow, it might not be as pleasant :-). Noise wasn't an issue to me, as I know I'm visiting NYC!!!! I love the sounds of the city! Other than that, a few minor things but they wouldn't deter me from staying here again.

Thanks again, Guiseppe sorry for the late review!

Too small for more than 2 people

  • 2 of 5

This mini apartment definitely took some getting used to.

I think the owners have 7 units in that building. They changed our apartment number multiple times, and ours was not laid out like the one pictured. When I booked the apartment they sent the video of the lock outside the building, and informed us that our apartment would be unlocked and the keys would be in there. Unfortunately there was no key in the building lock box. Someone finally answered the third phone number we called. They arrived in about 30 minutes to let us in.

It shouldn't be advertised as "sleeps 3", because it doesn't have 3 chairs or room for 3 people. There are multiple reviews that say a family of 5 stayed here, and there is just no way! The pictures they show make it look much bigger than it is. When the folding bed was out, you couldn't open the refrigerator door. Also, because there were only 2 chairs, one of us had to eat while standing up or sitting on the floor. There literally was not enough floor space to have 3 people, our luggage out, the extra bed out, and walk around.

We were initially concerned that every renter they've ever had knows the building lock code, and knows that they leave the apartment unlocked and the keys in there. However, we never felt unsafe, and left our bags in the common hallway the day we left, as did other guests, and our belongings were fine. Our only issue was we caught the elderly lady that owns the apartment next door repeatedly checking to see if our apartment was unlocked.

The noise was horrible, and will be for at least another year, and not just regular big city noise that goes pretty much 24 hours a day. Three buildings down, they are building a high-rise. By 7am everyday (even weekends) there is tons of construction noise.

The apartment had no thermostat and no AC. The heat was on so high when we were there (it was very cold out) that we had to keep the windows open a bit all the time. I can't imagine renting this place in the summer when it's hot and muggy out.

There were lots of basic things missing. I'd like to suggest that they provide a dish rag, a dish towel, and a roll of paper towels. There was absolutely no counter space in the bathroom, and no towel hooks or a place to hang the towels. We had to hang them over doors and door knobs. There was only one hand towel in the bathroom, but nowhere to put it, so it was constantly in the sink and always wet.

Like I said, we made due.

Owner's Response: The site states that it's a mini apartment that can accommodate up to 3 guests - not sure where you see 5. There are larger apartments you could choose from.. what made you pick this one?? I am sure the nightly rate (a fraction of a 10x10 hotel room) and the location played a big role. The apartment is super-gorgoeus, it was completely remodeled a week before you arrived (new cabinets, new bath, new floor, new everything) and it's perfect for 2-3 travelers on a budget (just like you and your friends - otherwise you would have picked a larger one). The pictures you saw online shown what the apt looked like the day you booked it (old and outdated). No comment on that???????? I always encourage travelers to either call my collaborators or send us an email to address any issues and missing items. You have probably spent 15-20 minutes to write down this shocking review when you could have spend 2 minutes to address these issues via email by phone. I would have made a tremendous difference. The construction company start working at 8:00/8:30am. New York Bulding Department rules are very strict and summons are very high...so there is no such thing.. 7am every day. Staying in Midotwn is very convenient but cooping with noise and traffic and sirene is unavoidable no matter what floor you are /what apartment/hotel room (2 or 5 stars) you book. For future trips to NYC or to any other expensive city worldwide i would suggest you to pick hotel rooms which will cost you 3 times as much and equipped with 4 towels 1 chair and a tiny tv. Thanks for staying with us

The place was as the picture showed. It was small, but very clean. Very close to the Port Authority which was really nice. I arrived early and was able to leave my bags at the apartment and did the same the day I left....no problems whatsoever. My only complaint would be the area where the entrance is. I arrived on a Saturday and all weekend there were unsavory-type guys hanging right around the entrance. It made me uncomfortable. They were there Monday morning, but gone after that. I went out after dark when I knew they weren't there and it was fine. Overall, it was nice.
