Beautiful old historic town complemented with great accomodation
Domme would have to be on everybodies bucket list. Old, historical, well maintained but no loss of history.
House is well maintained, but kitchen utensils need upgrading and expanding. Host very helpful and supportive of tourists.
Heating is an issue in October onwards. Charge of €70 per week for central heating. Did offer cut wood for open fire, though. Only heated lounge area.
Also charged for bed linen and bath towels.
Stayed in 6 accom in Europe this year, and this was only one with these extra charges. His rental price was comparable with all others.
In Dijon and Charete the heating was on for our arrival.
First time in more than 12 years, to read (never heard in live in 12 years) such observations about logical extra costs, on request before -such as linens- or on arrival, if cold period.
My guest received by personal email response to all his questions and in more all details about eventuals extra costs to avoid any surprise. And mainly, all these details about normal extra costs are firstly and clearly precised in the Rental Agreement , accepted by my guest before booking "la maison du peintre" in Domme.
A pity not to read and consider a rental Agreement and claim after... when Nature brings us fresh mornings, even if cuted wood was offered,
pity to leave a cared house... not so clean,
unless to enjoy a very clean, bright and peaceful house appreciated by all our guests.
Lovely location and house
Super location to enjoy exploration of prehistoric caves in the Dordogne region.
The owner, Michael, was accommodating as we arrived late on Sunday night b/c of travel arrangements. He met us after 9:00 pm and explained the ins and outs of "La Maison du Peintre." Charming older home with well equipped kitchen and lovely porch (some covered, some not.) Our party consisted of 2 couples (62 years old +) and we found the house to be super- 2 full bathrooms and one half bath. Two bedrooms- one with twin beds and the other with a double bed. The town of Domme is busy with tourists during the day but as we returned from our daily jaunts most tourists were gone.
Bed linens, towels, need to be updated. Also, bathrooms need to be furnished with hand towels.Overall, a great comfortable place to stay!
great location in Dordogne
We recently enjoyed a 2 week stay at La Maison de la Peintre. Happy to add another 5 star review for this property. All expectations were met. The house is very clean, roomy, and ideally situated for exploring Domme and the local countryside.
There's much to see and do in Domme itself .... a weekly outdoor market, a beautiful town square with restaurants, boulangerie, medieval church (attended a wonderful choral concert on Sunday evening), post office, very helpful visitors' center with free WIFI, a cave under the village that one can tour, beautiful vista point overlooking the valley and river, good restaurants, shops, and quaint streets.
We found plenty of other attractions close by and only traveled an hour away on two days. The house is close to the town square, but off on a little street with not much traffic. Michael, the proprietor, is very personal and engaging. He makes his guests feel very welcomed.
Michael was so charming, helpful and welcoming - even a bottle of local wine on the table to welcome us. He is a wonderful host and we totally enjoyed this most beautiful house in Domme. It is only 3 doors from the main square/shops & restaurants. Michael's house plus all the narrow roads & other buildings (& caves) in Domme and the surrounding areas are stunning. I would go back tomorrow if I could. We were so, so sorry to leave. Thank you so much Michael for making us so welcome and for sharing your beautiful house with us. Kind regards from Australia - Di, Ross, Rob & Lorna
Thank you so much for your so kind and friendly feed back. As you understood, my "great pleasure" is to receive at the best in "la maison du peintre" in Domme, so that not only the house is perfect, clean, bright and welcoming to feel "at home" but also you all gave me that pleasure to exchange between us and for me to tell you about the wonderful Domme and Périgord.
Kind regards, Michael
A fabulous place
We really enjoyed 'la maison du peintre' and it was such a treat to be in the centre of Domme but still have our haven of tranquillity. The outside terrace, partly covered, is a great asset. We all enjoyed evening trips to the artisan glacier, just around the corner. The house is well equipped and had everything we needed.
Overall a wonderful spot overlooking the Dordogne and thoroughly recommended. Thank you from Les AngloSuisses

Quality restaurants on site offering traditional cuisine and gourmet. Tasting "Wine Domme", visit the winery.
