It is the ideal holiday house to get together with your family or friends during all seasons. This historical house (250 year-old family heritage) renovated with all modern conveniences is located close to Obidos, a medieval village renowned for its old 12th century fortified castle. This property is on a slightly elevated location offering beautiful distant views of the lagoon of Obidos and the surrounding countryside. This place is very quiet and relaxing. There are fine sandy beaches, an excellent golf course, museums, old picturesque towns, high cliffs and a beautiful rolling countryside. The carefully furnished and decorated house is on 2 levels. The second level offers 4 bedrooms (2 double bedrooms including 1 with twin beds and baby cot and 1 with double bed) and the first level offers a living room with satellite television, a home office with library and Internet, a dining room, a bathroom, a kitchen (dishwasher, freezer, refrigerator, grill, cooking hob, microwave, washing machine and oven) and a laundry room. Roses, plants and trees are spread through the garden and there is an outdoor summer dining area. In the garden, there is a 8x4 m pool and deck chairs in a spacious elevated setting. There is a private garage. It is a wonderful place to relax with many cultural activities. More than holidays!

About Cristina Ramos e Horta

Cristina Ramos Horta, museum curator (Ceramic Museum, Ministry of Culture), art historian and investigator, member of the Institute of Art of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Lisbon and married to Eduardo Horta, retired from the Ministry of Agriculture, with 2 children of 24 and 26 years old.

Why Cristina Ramos e Horta chose Obidos Town

The villa that has been family-owned for generations was built in the 18th century by the great-great-grandparents of my husband, Eduardo Horta. We have original documents including the King Dom John VI. In 1867, we built a second level. The house remained in the family and has been renovated while preserving its original style in 2005. We rent it as a holiday rental because it gives us the opportunity to keep this family heritage and to meet very nice people.

What makes this villa unique

Very quiet, relaxing, private place, beautiful gardens, private pool and the atmosphere of the house that is a mix of old and modern comfort. It is well decorated. The historical heritage of this region is among the richest in Portugal. It is ideally located 2 km in the heart of the historical town of Obidos. The owners live in Caldas which is 10 minutes away. They are always attentive to the needs of their guests but give them total privacy.

Casa do Sobral was ideal for our family holiday

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our needs - very comfortable, spacious and with the most beautiful garden and accompanying, very private and much appreciated swimming pool. The hosts, Cristina and Edouardo, were delightful, attentive and very welcoming. The village was small and peaceful and very well located for a range of visits to nearby spots - the wonderful beach at Foz D'Arelho, Obidos, Caldas - with its fantastic ceramics and cycling museum - and, a bit further afield, Sintra, Cascais - home of the stunning Paula Rego gallery - and Lisbon.

Owner's Response: Dear Neil and Family; We enjoyed very much having you as guests at Casa do Sobral. We could not have hoped for better guests, and we are delighted that you interpreted rather well the spirit and purpose of the property. It was a nest to our family for 250 years, and since we moved out, it did seem a waste not to share it with people such as yourselves, thus the reason why we decided to convert Casa do Sobral into a Rural House Rental. Many thanks for your valued review and hope to see you all here again, sometime in the future.

nice villa in quiet village

  • 5 of 5

The owners of this property are lovely people and very helpful, welcoming and extremely caring. The house is spacious and has many rooms, it was actually too big for the 4 of us, however the interior would improve in our opinion if the furniture would be updated. The outdoor area and garden and pool are great. The church bells are loud (across the street). The kids loved praia do Foz do Arelho the best (water freezing cold though). There's plenty of things to do & visit in the surrounding area.

12 wonderful days in a peaceful place.

  • 5 of 5

Cristina and Eduardo were wonderful and helpful hosts. Their historic and beautiful property is located in Sobral da Lagoa small village located about 4km from the Obidos. We used local transportation ( mostly buses and occasional the taxi) to get around. The village has a general store / cafe where we could get all our necessary supplies and mix with the friendly locals. The house in Sobral is beautifully maintained, and the garden setting, buildings and pool allowed us to have a most a restful and enjoyable holiday. Although Obidos is the most noted place in the area, we particularly enjoyed Caldas da Rainha, with it's history, daily market, shops and great restaurants.

Again many thanks to Cristina and Edouardo for their wonderful home and property enabling us to have an unforgettable time.

  • 5 of 5

  • 4 of 5

Owner's Response: Merci beaucoup. Cristina Horta

Address: Rua do Armazem n° 1, Sobral da Lagoa, 2510-651, GPS. Latitude: 39°21'5.39"N. Longitude: 9°11'15.21"W. This very quiet rural town is 2 km from Obidos, a fortified medieval village that we recommend you to visit for its beauty, its monuments and its excellent restaurants and shops. There are several nearby beaches such as Foz do Arelho with cafés and restaurants as well as different sport activities during the summer season and a lagoon with beautiful areas (you can swim in the lagoon of Obidos). Everything is around 10-15 minutes by car or 10 km. The fishing town of Peniche is nearby with very good seafood. To enjoy the region, it is necessary to visit Baleal Island that is linked to the mainland by a narrow stretch of sand. The location of this house is ideal to discover lovely places: Coimbra, Lisbon, Fatima, Alcobaça Monastery, Batalha, the forts of Torres Vedras as well as the thermal town of Caldas da Rainha. 5 km away: shops, museums and leisure and cultural activities. Within less than an hour by bus, you can see the Atlantic coast to the West of Lisbon, that stretches over more than 24 km and that brings out some of the best renowned stations of Portugal. The elegant Estoril has a famous casino and a stunning golf course. There are fashion shops and chic boutiques amongst bustling cafés and elegant boutiques in Cascais. The fantastic dunes set against the beach of Guincho are a magnet for suffers as its rollers are among the best and more challenging ones in Europe. For buyers and tourists, spending a day is Lisbon is a must do. We recommend you to visit Alfama, one of the oldest areas of Lisbon that survived the earthquake of 1755 and preserved its original appearance. You can enjoy the traditional Portuguese cuisine that is characterised by rich, copious and tasty dishes closely related to Mediterranean cuisine.
