Termite damaged floors-tried to keep my deposit!

  • 1 of 5

I will say this, the Inside was nicely remodeled, but approaching the home it was VERY dirty and not taken care of. Porches were covered with leaves and dirt, gutters overflowing. You can tell owner hadn't be by in a while if they were renting it at that condition and charging that amount of money. Did have some bug issues in the master. Now to the very bad: once we returned home I received an email a few days later stating we are losing our deposit for damaged floors. When I asked the owner why, he stated "the cleaning crew said the damage is from high heels"!!!! I was 9 months pregnant, on limited bed rest and could only wear flip flops at that point. I was there for my friends wedding, so this house was literally used just to sleep in, no parties etc. This damage had obviously been there for a long time, which they stated it was new. I did my research with the pictures they sent me and it was CLEARLY termite damage, to a T. I got VRBO involved and the owner hung up on them. I had pictures of how messy the outside of the house was and sent them pictures of termite damage to compare to the ones the cleaning crew sent me. It was a hassle to get my money back, let alone to deal with this stress in my condition. I never received an apology from the owner for the "misunderstanding", just an automatic email saying I was receiving my deposit refund. Hoping others don't get scammed into paying for this termite damage that the cleaning crew/management company/owner are trying to blame on renters! I have pictures to prove this all if in question.

very poor

  • 1 of 5

Unit was dirty and in marginal shape. Stairs entering and porch were dirty and moldy. Back porch the same. Chairs and tables on back porch were filthy, as was grill. No hand towels. Carpet was stained. Closet was in bad shape, with clothes visible, hangers on floor. Bathroom drawers were filled with old bottles of soap that had leaked. Have never rented unit that asked that towels be washed and replaced. Very surprised and disappointed with condition of unit. All in all, the worst experience we have had with rental unit.

Great property but in need of some TLC and a deep cleaning.

  • 3 of 5

Loved the cottage, even though it was more than what I needed for my son and I (the two of us were there for a jr. golf tourney), but the location was perfect. The cottage needs some TLC. Am listing the stuff here more as an FYI to the owners than a criticism --I know how fast time goes by and the to-do list always grows with property ownership. .....Master bath tub doesn't drain well, so we used the shower in the other bathroom; lots of old stuff left from previous guests that needs to be tossed, e.g. powdered coffee creamer that has gone hard from the humidity; front porch light out; toilet seats partially broken and one of them barely flushes; small TV's with generic remotes that don't enable a channel listing - annoying with satellite TV and you have to scroll through endless channels to find the one you need, and then can't directly input that channel number to get back to it; old dusty magazines on the coffee table; etc. Basically, it's been a while since anyone has really gone through the place.

Also needs a deep cleaning and pest control - on first night (very late) we were greeted by two centipedes in the master. I found out by going after them - under the bed, behind the bed, etc, just how dirty the place is. It was not a great way to start our vacation. The second night we were greeted with a cockroach in the dining room when we came back from the tourney. Lots of dead gnats, bugs and a spider sitting behind the faucet on the sink in the second bath. The carpet in the master needs a deep shampoo or replacing, it's pretty bad. We also ran across lots of stuff left by previous guests - clothes hanging in the closet, a toiletry kit in the bathroom, etc. One thing that bugged me was the American flag was displayed in the flag holder in front of the unit. In owners defense, not everyone knows the flag should not fly at night unless illuminated. So I took it down and put it inside the unit. It's pretty clear the cleaning crew/prop. mgt of the unit is lacking in effort and attention to detail.

We only used the master bed (my son did not want to sleep in the second bedroom after the centipede episode). It was very comfortable, and the sheets were excellent. Again, we really liked the cottage, the location, the price, everything except mentioned above. We would go back if the above is addressed.

Cute and cozy cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was great and in a very convenient location - It was nice being right on the driving range. The decor was nice and cozy. The only negative was the master bedroom mattress was not comfy.

Amazing property right on the driving range of the golf course. Cozy and spacious, I'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed my stay so much I will be back in the near future! It's a beautiful little cottage, with lots of room, and a full kitchen to utilize. The driving range is located right out the back of wh cottage, and you can literally walk to the range and hit balls until your arms fall off. You can also chip to the different "greens" on the range right from the back yard. The bedrooms are big, and the bathrooms are very nice. The decor is as if you are on the beach, and it's a very home-y feeling. The dining table is family style with benches as the seating, so it has true Southern Charm. The only thing I regret is that my family couldn't make the trip with me. I went to Greensboro for a Conference, and am so glad I chose to stay here instead of a hotel. A great location, close to the lake. Th walks along the lake are beautiful and very calming. I can't wait to go back! This time for a true vacation! This would also be a great place to stay for a golf buddy vacation as well. Close to all courses. Thanks Bruce for opening your cottage up to me!
