About Ellen or Russell Grant

Been off and on Ocracoke since I was a child. Growing up there in the summers. Have many friends there and spend as much time as I can on the island. I live in a small farming community and am also a farmer. Would like to retire to Ocracoke someday...

Enjoyed our stay

We enjoyed our stay! The place is clean, safe and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable . Cute kitchen. We had questions before we arrived and the owner was very responsive and gracious. Thanks for a nice experience! Loved the island.

Cozy and local.

  • 5 of 5

Great visit in October! The apartment was just fine, tho a bigger fridge would have been nice. Mattress was soft. Convenient parking. And easy walking to everywhere!

Perfect for a quick getaway

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at The Charter Room for two nights with our two Labradors for a quick anniversary getaway. The place was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the hardwood floors made cleanup easy. The kitchen has everything you need (coffee pot, toaster, dishes, pots, etc).

I would recommend bringing a cooler of some sort (as we did) for cold beverages to keep in the truck/on the deck, since the fridge is hotel size and won't hold much more than leftovers (not a bad thing, just good to be prepared with a cooler).

From a woman's perspective, it would be nice to have the bathroom mirror mounted on the same wall as you face the sink instead of on the side wall to the left (it would make getting ready so much easier), but it was still definitely manageable. Just a suggestion!

The only other minimal con would be that it was slightly noisy from the other side of the house that The Charter Room is attached to, especially first thing in the morning (mainly just able to hear footsteps, shutting doors, muffled talking, etc). Granted, we are used to having no neighbors or noise whatsoever, so I'm sure folks who are used to having close neighbors or living in an apartment would not really notice the noise. But for the great price, we did not mind a little noise!

The location of The Charter Room was amazing! We were able to walk to everything in town, which was great for us.

Overall I would highly recommend staying here and would give The Charter Room 5 stars all day! Thank you again for letting us stay in your home!

Perfect for a place to crash! Clean!

  • 5 of 5

Exactly as advertised: a comfortable place to crash and clean up after a day on the island. Cool and comfy in the heat and dry and cozy in the rain. Much more spacious than anticipated, perfect for a us as a couple with a lovable lab.

Cute little bungalow tucked away!

  • 4 of 5

Unfortunately we came during the power outage and didn't get to fully take in all the beauty this little bungalow had to offer. We will definitely keep it as a place to try and rebook when we get to take our next trip back to Ocracoke.
