In the hills, in the tranquility of the Aosta Valley, an ancient house of the late '700 will welcome you with rural simplicity of an old country house. Centenarian times stone, bricks of ancient workmanship tell a story of solid serenity, warmth and livability. In 2005 we decided to restore an old family home following only the feelings and deepest emotions to be able to create a place that can transmit the host that strong 'sense of home'. The difficulty of the restoration was nice to be able to immerse themselves in the times, in the customs, in the head and in the hands of the farmer, builder, craftsman who made centuries ago, these wonders where every stone has a story to tell. As well as the floors of the rooms in larch recovered, brushed, treated and rested, the floors in terracotta tiles made by hand, one by one, irregular, rugged, yet incredibly warm, or even the old fireplaces, stone walls and stone vaults in the old stables ... strong presences, primitive, by themselves, convey emotions. And so on up to massive load-bearing walls, crooked and size 'awkward' they do lose a lot of space, but it will pay off with their imposing presence softened only by the colors of which are soaked in lime plaster that surround them. Here is the 'skin' of the house, these plasters lime as it was used once, lying deliberately without ruler with small trowel and those soft and rounded corners that create atmospheres particularly striking.
Stone, wood, brick, iron, lime, natural colors, elements preserved and new measures, all designed to create a light atmosphere of relaxation and hospitality where everyone can find space to establish a personal relationship with things, sounds and silences, the simple and humble nature of a place where the earth was the center of a whole system of life that it took and she wore in every form, in every circumstance.
Guests are six rooms, all furnished maintaining the style of old country houses, with private bathroom with shower, wooden floors, larch, large sunny terraces and central heating, some decorated with family furniture and tools tradition peasant. The furniture, different in each room, is the work of local artisans, heirs of the traditional art of wood and iron. Much care has been taken in the choice and in the combination of colors. Constraints historical artistic, as well as respect for the environment, did not allow the installation of the air conditioning system. The premises with thick stone walls are still cool even during the summer. The rooms have suggestive names, suggested by the age-old tradition of winemakers in the family. Each room is named after the grape varieties grown in the Lower Aosta Valley, some of which, of great interest in terms of wine, are strongly risking extinction and survive in a few units.
The heart of the house beats to the heat of the table spread, between the clink of cutlery, the smell of coffee and freshly baked cakes. Breakfast consists mainly of typical Aosta Valley: the melted butter mountain, honey and jams, apple juice, rye bread as well as cured meats and cheeses are an energetic charge healthy start to the day.
Breakfast is served in the space at the beginning of '900 was the primary school of the village. The brick archways in perfect condition have allowed the creation of a very particular with very few decorative elements. Start your day off in the room where a rich breakfast typically local will greet you and in the winter months you will let yourself in the warmth and kidnap by the magic and the smell of crackling wood.
In the warmer months, you will be awakened by the soft singing of the birds, the titmice from joyful chirping of the swallows, by the sounds of nature. We will serve you breakfast in the pergola and to keep you company will be the bright green grass, the rose garden and the scent of herbs. The kitchen will satisfy even the most discerning palates, we will taste sweet wholesome home-cooked on old family recipes.
We only stayed one night as we traveled from Milan to Chamonix, but this was a wonderful place to rest. The rooms were decent sizes (we had two triple rooms), but the decor and breakfast are what make this B&B special. Lea feeds you breakfast like you are friends rather than guests. Homemade nutella, jams, bread and butter to start the day. No hot food, but quite an assortment of cheeses, breads and meats to fill you up. The village is worth walking around - see the hydro plant powered by the gorgeous, clear river. Listen to the children playing outside your B&B. Not touristy at all. Good for an overnight visit definitely!
