Loved our time at Whaler #1273

I would like to start by saying we really enjoyed our first time at the Whaler in unit 1273, would definitely return!

Upon arrival we had to wait for check-in, because we arrived about 90 minutes before check-in time. This really wasn't a big deal for us, we just went next door to Hula Grill for lunch, then our unit was ready. Check-in was painless and our bags had already been delivered to our unit. The staff at the Whaler was awesome, very nice and informative, greeting was great! The unit is located on the 12th floor with amazing views, sunsets were my favorite! If you are concerned about noise from Whaler's Village just below the unit, don't worry, there were no problems with this at all. This unit comes fully stocked with towels, extra bed linens, plenty of dishes, cookware, glasses, flatware, iron, ironing board, vacuum cleaner, washer/dryer. There are spices for cooking. This unit is perfect for a family, very spacious, king bed and two queens, all comfortable. There are beach chairs, toys and snorkeling gear. Only a couple of concerns; 1. sliding door in living room, it doesn't close completely, it is challenging getting it to align for proper closing/locking 2. there is no ceiling fan in the living room, great ceiling fans in bedroom & dining area, one is really needed in the living room. We went to Long's and bought a small fan, placed it on the end table made a big different, kept the living room from feeling so stuffy. We actually, left this fan in the unit for future guest when we left. 3. Master bathtub needs to be replaced or refinished, it is showing it's age. Overall, this is a great unit, I would not hesitate to stay here again. We loved the Whaler property, very quite with helpful staff...the grounds are very manicured & well taken care of. Guest parking is under ground, nice prevents the car from being so hot. The location can not be beat! The beach here is awesome, nice that Whaler's Village is right next door. Also, there is a Safeway grocery a short drive away. The Whaler currently offer a complimentary photo session, details given at check-in...we took advantage of this offer & the photographer did a great job. I would like to add, this was my first experience with VRBO and I was very hesitant, but Lauren was available by email to answer my questions. We actually spoke on the phone in the beginning before I finalized my reservation. Thank you Lauren for your patients with all my questions :)

Lack of service

First of all the room is beautifully remodeled and has one of the best views but we had several issues that we were not happy with. We booked this room for 10 total days with 5 guests. When we arrived, it was equipped with only 4 rolls of toilet paper, 8 large bath towels, and 2 rolls of paper towels for the entire 10 days. I have never stayed at a place for this many days where there wasn't at least one day the room was cleaned and resupplied with towels and basic supplies. We were provided no service to the room the entire stay. I contacted the owner and the response for the towels was I can go down and get pool towels each day if I wanted new towels to shower with or wash them ourselves in their washing machine. This was not the response I was expecting for a penthouse unit in which we paid a very high price per night. Several items were not working in the unit including the ice maker, TV remote control, and burned out light fixtures. While the unit itself was beautiful with fantastic views, there should have been some service provided for the amount we paid. Unless the service side of this property is improved, I would not stay in this unit again.

Beautiful & Convenient

We really enjoyed our stay at the condo. Right on the beach, easy to walk to dining & shopping. We didn't cook while there but greatly enjoyed the indoor-outside living options. The unit is furnished with a great selection of items so we didn't have to spend time shopping. Our days were spent exploring & enjoying this beautiful island. We had plenty of space to relax. I would recommend this unit to anyone. It is well appointed and the building & grounds are immaculate. The owners are easy to deal with & responsive to all our questions.

Great Family vacation, beautiful unit!

This is our 6th time staying at The Whaler but first time staying in this unit. It was a beautifully decorated and comfortable condo for a family, best we've stayed in! I was a bit nervous booking a condo overlooking The Whaler Village but noise/restaurant smoke was NOT an issue being on the 12th floor. The views were fantastic of the West Maui mountains AND Kaanapalii beach. The beds were comfortable and rooms were spacious. Beach chairs, sand toys, a few snorkel sets were there for usage which was very convenient. Basic kitchen/bathroom/laundry supplies were provided (paper products/soaps) which was helpful. Lots of kitchen supplies were provided but previous review of dull knives and warped pans was accurate. We made it work but since we cooked a lot in our condo, it was a bit frustrating. The sliding glass doors were difficult to open/shut (and one didn't shut completely) but this has been an issue in all units that we have rented at The Whaler. Have a feeling they will all be replaced in the upcoming years. Pool and grounds are always meticulously maintained and staff very helpful And polite. Overall, we loved our 2 week stay and would no-doubt stay in this unit again!
