Ideal rural France

We've travelled fairly extensively over the last 20 years and we've always resisted the urge to repeat holidays, knowing there is so much we haven't seen. That's over for us because it's impossible for us resist returning to Mas des Abeilles. This was our second visit and it was as ideal as I remembered.

The Mas is rustic and modest, yet it is stunning and also luxurious in that it is complete with every amenity you could ask for, including toys for kids, power adapters for every room, wifi (my solitary complaint is that the wifi signal is too weak to reach the extremities of the Mas), a pool, lots of bathrooms, four beautiful dining areas and a thoroughly equipped kitchen. There is also an abundance of space and privacy. It can easily accommodate three families.

The view is spectacular.

Vaison-la-Romaine is breathtakingly beautiful, and yet it is very much a normal, functioning town; while tourism is clearly an important part of its economy, it does not seem to consume Vaison like it consumes many holiday destinations in Western Europe. Vaison is the largest town in the region (pop. 6000), and as such has most of the amenities you would get in a city.

Norma and Jean-Noel are excellent, readily-available hosts. We very much look forward to seeing them again.

"It''s hard to choose the...

"It''s hard to choose the right superlative to describe Mas des Abeilles. It''s a dream. It''s breath-taking––the photos don''t do it justice.

It''s spacious, quiet, clean, close to town, rife with amenities (excellent kitchen with sharp chef''s knives, all utensils, espresso maker, A/C adapters in every bathroom, baby potty seats, extension cords, umbrellas, toys, books... you name it). My three year old son was enamoured with the place as soon as he set foot in it.

Norma and Jean-Noel are lovely people. They made us feel very welcome, and though they left us to ourselves they were readily available if we needed any help.

The surrounding area is a marvel. Stunning little towns and villages dot the area around Vaison-la-Romaine. Norma gave us a map/schedule of all the weekly markets in the region, we went to a couple of them––charming. This is how retail is meant to be. We had spectacular wine every day for a fraction of the price you pay in North America.

My only complaint is that the wi-fi signal was quite weak. It didn''t matter much though, as we were usually preoccupied by the stunning view, the pool, the food, or the wine in front of us.

I could go on forever about how much I loved Mas des Abeilles. We will be back, for sure."

"The villa was outstanding in every way, the photos not doing it justice at all. Norma was always available if needed, but never intrusive. The rooms were very large, the whole place immaculate. The pool and gardens were superb and the view amazing. A fantastic property!"
