About Nancy Oliver

I am a Californian married to an Englishman and we live in London with our 2 university-aged children. We use Chalet Gelinotte as much as we can, and love it both in the winter and the summer.

Nancy Oliver purchased this chalet in 2006

Why Nancy Oliver chose Verbier

We bought this chalet with the intention of living in Verbier at some point in our future. So we made the chalet cosy and welcoming with good beds.

What makes this chalet unique

We love the sunny location, the easy access to the slopes, the ability to walk into the centre of Verbier easily and yet still be in a quiet place for sleeping and socialising. We love sitting in the garden after skiing with a beer or a glass of wine in the longer and warmer days of March and April.

Fantastic Chalet in Verbier

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in Nancy's home. It was perfect for our large group of friends and family, especially being just a quick walk to the kids lift and magic carpet made it very relaxed. Everything we needed was there and we felt immediately at home. Nancy was very friendly, accommodating, and flexible. We would love to com back some time!

Owner's Response: Hi James, and thank you for your lovely comments. Glad that your entire family found the chalet comfortable and to their liking. The quick and easy access to transportation and to the ski slopes was one of our reasons for buying the chalet. We really hope to see you again sometime.

Charming chalet that is quintessential Switzerland

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at Chalet Gelinotte and enjoyed every minute. The chalet is perfectly situated on the bus line and is an easy walk to two different access points to the mountain. It was so easy to get around that both the morning trip to the lifts and the afternoon apres ski were easy and fun. The chalet itself was perfectly equipped with everything we needed -- great kitchen for cooking, cozy bedrooms, roaring fireplace, big TV, and of course the all-important wifi. Nancy and Nick have thought of everything and we felt more like family friends than paying guests. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to get back soon!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. As I told you, I really value my vacations and want to try my best to make my guest's vacations as good as I can. We are so happy that you and your family enjoyed your stay at Chalet Gelinotte. And you were lovely, understanding and so easy to work with - please return! Best wishes, Nancy and Nick

Wonderful house for families in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying here with our small children and our parents. The bunny slope is a short walk away, the free ski bus is even closer. The croissants at the bakery at Savoleyres were great (the nutella filled donuts are deliciously addictive!). Depending on the time of year, there is a night bus to come back from dinner in town if you don't want to walk up the hill. The house is comfortable and we appreciated the well-stocked kitchen, heated bathroom floor, and the washer and dryer (!!!). The internet worked well. I suggest bringing warm pajamas and sweatshirts as it can be chilly in the house. My only two criticisms are that the front door is hard to lock/unlock and that the couches could use updating. Both things that I am sure Nancy will fix, as she is a very attentive hostess! I highly recommend this house for a family holiday.

Owner's Response: Hi Veronica - Thank you for your kind words, and for being such lovely guests! I am so glad that you had a great stay. And you are right - the front door lock and the sofas were already on my to-do list! We just replaced the washing machine, dryer, TV (with 4K & HDR my son says that I have to say), DVD player and some curtains - which were on last year's to-do list. Just like any family home, you have to keep taking care of things, and I appreciate your help. I hope your travels home to Peru went well, and we would love to have you back sometime soon. Best wishes to all your family. ***** HI AGAIN VERONICA, I just had to let you know this - we had an issue with the boiler two weeks after you stayed, and had to replace some parts. So the boiler might have been starting to break down while you were there, leading to your feeling a bit chilly. If that was the case, I am so sorry. We don't usually have that comment. And it is all fixed now! Stuff happens with homes that cannot always be anticipated, and I appreciate your patience. Best wishes, Nancy

Perfect location and great family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Just had a great week in Verbier skiing under the fabulous guidance of Nancy and her lovely chalet. We were 4 adults and 5 children, everyone had enough space and the kitchen was really well equipped as was the rest of the communal areas . The open fire was very welcome as we managed to stay in one of the coldest weeks! The chalet is perfectly located for the number 2 bus to the lifts and it's a 10 minute walk if you have enough energy to walk to the village. Skiing in Verbier is not for beginners, mostly red runs but lots of them so tons of variety. Children loved the ski park area and skiing through the trees... we will be back! Nancy was extremely helpful in the run up to our holiday and we couldn't have wished for a better service.

Owner's Response: Thank you Lorraine for your kind words, and I am so glad that your family and your friends all enjoyed their stay at our chalet. You were so lucky to have such great snow, but I know that it was colder than normal so I am glad that you all kept toasty with the fire. You were great guests, and would love to have you back again!

Lovely, comfortable, traditional chalet

  • 5 of 5

The chalet is very comfortable and cosy, exactly what we wanted from a traditional Swiss chalet. It has everything you need for a family to stay. It is warm and also has a lovely open fire too. We had a lovely holiday staying in this chalet and would definitely recommend it. Nancy, the owner is a delight to deal with. She is kind and answers any questions quickly and is extremely accommodating of requests.

Vacations are so important for everybody concerned and as an owner-operator of this chalet, it is my pleasure to help you as much as possible to have a wonderful holiday. Of course, it is always easier when guests are as responsive and thoughtful as you are! Come back sometime. Summers here are lovely too. Best wishes.

Homely chalet in a stunning setting

  • 5 of 5

In a tranquil yet convenient location, authentic Chalet Gelinotte is a few minutes walk from the nearest lifts at Savoleyres, a couple of minutes from buses into town or up the hill and a short walk from a mini market and an Italian restaurant serving exquisite thin based pizza. The chalet is comfortable and well equipped for cooking, dining and relaxing, with beautiful alpine views. The skiing in Verbier is renowned for its variety and challenge for all levels and Nancy and Nick have thought of everything to provide a warm welcome in their home from home. Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely comments. We want the chalet to feel like a comfortable home so I am glad we achieved that for you. We also like the fact that our chalet is so close to the beginner slopes of Les Esserts, and yet allows easy access to so many different types of slopes. And so glad that you liked the pizza recommendation at Al Capone - our local restaurant. It is so nice to have lovely guests like you, and a pleasure to make sure that your holiday was enjoyable.
