About the property

With 6 bedrooms this house easily accommodates a large party.

The Fishing Cottage is in a rural setting that takes full advantage of the Eastern Shore's natural beauty while only minutes from the charming town of Cape Charles with its eclectic shops and restaurants. It is close to beautiful beaches, fishing piers, marinas and boat ramps to launch that boat.

With 6 bedrooms the Fishing Cottage is perfect for larger parties. The firepit, corn hole game, hammock, screened porch, and barbeque grill in the roomy back yard are the perfect place to gather in the evening after a day on the water surrounding the scenic Eastern Shore.

For the fisherman the big yard provides plenty of room to park your boat in a secure location. The house is centrally located minutes from the boat ramps in Cape Charles, Kiptopeke and Oyster. There is a screened porch for morning coffee, satellite TV, fish cleaning station and a barbeque grill to cook that catch of the day.

The Fishing Cottage is located on a local farm with abundant wildlife and acres of corn, potatoes and soybeans. While enjoying sunsets from the screened porch you can watch the deer grazing in the surrounding fields. The farm located on Old Plantation Creek provides access for local watermen to the bounty of the Chesapeake Bay.

The charming Victorian town of Cape Charles is minutes away with its beautiful beaches, lovely old homes and fishing pier. The main street has quaint shops and eclectic dining with outdoor tables to enjoy the harbor view.

Beaches, boat docks, kayaking, birding, wildlife sanctuaries and the unspoiled barrier islands are all nearby.

There is a private airstrip on the farm if you wish to arrive by private plane. Should you wish to bring your own horse there are equestrian stables on the property as well.

This property shares its rural farm setting with a sister house across the street, the RiverPark House (VRBO property #128102). The RiverPark house is a 4 bedroom house and the Fishing Cottage is 6 bedrooms. Fishing buddies and large families can rent both houses for a crowd.

Bounded on one side by the Chesapeake Bay and on the other side by the Atlantic Ocean the Eastern Shore of Virginia enjoys unparalleled coastal living beauty. This property takes full advantage of the natural beauty and tranquility of rural living that is the trademark of the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Fishing Cottage. Merle was easy to work with and very accommodating. The house was well equipped with everything we needed, (we didn't realize there wasn't a dishwasher but all jumped in to help!!). We will be back!

On a wonderful note our daughter got engaged on the Cape Charles pier on the COLDEST day of the year 12/31/2017! This made our visit even more special.

Happy New Year!

Owner's Response: We were delighted to have you with us and so excited to hear about the engagement. Our best wishes to the happy couple and your family on this special event. That made for quite a New Year’s Eve celebration.

Pictures don't do it Justice !!

This Beautiful farm house, is very spacious and worth it's weight in gold. Our family has been vacationing in Cape Charles for more then 2 decades. We haven't found anywhere as comfortable and reasonable as this place. We are a group of 9 and we never once had issues of needing more space. This house easily felt like home away from home. Loved this house so much we have already booked our stays for next year. This is what I would recommend, book now for your next vacation.

Cape Charles Farmhouse - Charming and roomy

  • 4 of 5

This charming, vintage farmhouse was large and roomy. The bedrooms were huge and well appointed. The fire pit was fun and relaxing in the evening and the kitchen looked equipped for family cooking, but since we really didn't cook, I can't swear that something essential wasn't missing. Plenty of fluffy towels and paper products were provided. The owner was accomodating and provided beach chairs for us to take to the beach. My only suggestion for future improvement would be to have the house cleaner pay more attention to finer details; fingerprints on doors and door jambs, dust on window blinds and windowsills, etc. The bathrooms are old and could use a bit of refurbishing, but were clean. It might be more efficient to have the house cleaned immediately before occupancy since in the country and with an older home that is not airtight, it is to difficult to keep the small bugs out. We didn't use the screened porch because it was not clean, but again, if the house is not cleaned immediately before occupancy, this would be expected. The phone listed in the check-out instructions on VRBO is not a cell phone but a landline, so you can't text upon your departure as instructed. Also the code for entry was incorrectly listed in the check-in instructions from VRBO with an extra leading number. The AC works great throughout the farmhouse, very important after a hot summer's day. We would definitely rent this home again!
