With 6 bedrooms the Fishing Cottage is perfect for larger parties. The firepit, corn hole game, hammock, screened porch, and barbeque grill in the roomy back yard are the perfect place to gather in the evening after a day on the water surrounding the scenic Eastern Shore.

For the fisherman the big yard provides plenty of room to park your boat in a secure location. The house is centrally located minutes from the boat ramps in Cape Charles, Kiptopeke and Oyster. Bounded on one side by the Chesapeake Bay and on the other side by the Atlantic Ocean the Eastern Shore of Virginia enjoys unparalleled coastal living beauty. This property takes full advantage of the natural beauty and tranquility of rural living that is the trademark of the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

My family and I had a wonderful stay. The house was large enough to accommodate all of us. I highly recommend this property if you have a large group of family or friends. Thank you again .

The cottage was not what I expected and am usually accused to

  • 1 of 5

Driving up was like driving into a scene in a horror movie. Pulled up to a completely dark house, it was hard to find the right street to turn on off route 13 because of the darkness.

No lighting turned on as we entered the house presents a safety hazard. We had to leave the headlights on to see anything. Entering the house, there was an odor of old wood. The furniture was dated and there were numerous bugs in the bathrooms making a bathroom visit very uncomfortable. The house was very spacious and there were plenty of towels. The kitchen was well stocked. The price was good. It was an Adventure staying. We have stories for years.

Courteously and Professionalism

  • 5 of 5

Merle has been so helpful the entire time we were planning for our trip. I am saddened due to a hurricane and the relocation of the event we were attending that we are not able to actually follow through with staying at this location after all. But Merle handled even our change of plans and cancellation of our reservation with great courteously and professionalism. Thank you Merle! I hope someday we may get to stay at your property. But I greatly appreciate all you do to make this a great experience for your guests, even before arrival!

Everything you need for a wonderful family gathering

  • 4 of 5

'The Fishing Cottage' is a simple, yet satisfying, location for a family vacation, joint families' vacation or a just a bunch of friends. Best for a home base from which to travel out for sightseeing, beaches, fishing or boating. We had a crawling 9-month old that loved the living room space to explore during the mornings. The fire pit out back provides a cozy venue for early evening relaxation and the screened in porch was used every morning. There's a large kitchen with amenities to prepare real meals.

We would stay at 'The Fishing Cottage' again.

Suggestions for guests when they arrive - Bring:

- your cooking oils and seasonings

- special baking dishes if beyond a simple cookie sheet

- charcoal and lighter fluid

- fire starter bricks for the fire pit

- yard-type bug spray (e.g. Raid Yard Guard)

Lastly, Merle Starer was very accommodating. (Thank you, Merle.)
