Come stay at our much loved, light-filled country home in the mid-coast Maine area. Our guests will enjoy a tranquil, relaxed environment for a quiet retreat or an active family vacation within close proximity to Belfast and Camden. This wifi-equipped and updated 1800’s farmhouse, located on over 100 acres of land abutting the St. George River, is surrounded by 13 acres of pastures, woodland trails, and a spring-fed pond.
A short 15-20 minute drive away are all the mid-coast Maine attractions, including the artist’s haven of Belfast, and Camden, the charming “jewel” of the mid-coast. Visitors will have easy access to hiking in Camden Hills and swimming/kayaking/canoeing/fishing in pristine Maine lakes or on the Penobscot Bay. Guests can enjoy day trips to Acadia and Popham beach (approximately 1.5 hours away) or a take a short ferry ride from Lincolnville to Islesboro. It is also fun to set up a tent and sleep under the stars (no light pollution here!), with the bullfrogs and cicadas singing through the night. Searsmont offers the experience of communing with nature, while enjoying convenient access to fine dining, boutique shopping, and antique store browsing!
The main house comfortably sleeps four (one queen and two twins), while the unheated but renovated attached barn comfortably sleeps more guests during warm summer months (there is one king bed and one double bed, so the renovated barn could accomodate 4 people if they share the beds, bringing the total potential guest accommodation to 8). Standard rental rate is based on 4 guests, with $25 per additional guest per night. The house has a fully equipped, eat-in kitchen with a table that seats eight. “Single-level living” gives the cozy house a sense of spaciousness and ease of movement. There are 2 bathrooms--one full and one small, 3/4 bath. Renovated by an accomplished artist and builder, the home has been lovingly maintained for over 30 years, and guests will enjoy some of the unique art of owner Tom Wills. If you are bringing children, let us know! We have a closet full of games and plenty of toys! Dogs are welcome, as we are dog-owners ourselves, but we recommend keeping them leashed at night and at dawn when “the critters” and deer are out and about in the fields and woods surrounding the house.
Midcoast Maine is heaven for those who enjoy biking, kayaking (lake, river, and sea), fishing, and walking/hiking. You won’t have to leave the property to kayak and fish on the river! We have two single person kayaks and two canoes that you are welcome to use.

Tom and Fran Wills, along with their children, are working together on this VRBO. Fran has been an educator for 45 years, and Tom is a retired nurse and social worker, and has been an artist and builder his whole life.
Frances Wills purchased this farmhouse in 1972
This house was a family home for 30 years, and is now a beloved retreat for grandchildren who spend hours by the pond catching frogs, and evenings playing games.
This home allows you to connect with nature. The feeling of space and privacy is truly special.
We stayed at the property for six days in August, 2016. Noteworthy is how complete the kitchen is - there isn't much you would have in yours that you can't find there. As we were staying for family vacation with family we only get to see once a year we spent a fair amount of time at the house, which included cooking as a family. We take vacation rentals quite a bit in different parts of the country, and this one had easily the best kitchen of all.
The house layout has a sleeping area with a king and a double in two rooms connected with a room somewhat separate from the rest of the house, and a queen and two twins attached to the main house. This is perfect for larger families, or two couples vacationing together.
I had not previously been in this part of Maine, and found it wonderful. Belfast and its harbor walk are a mere 20 minutes away, Bar Harbor is a slightly longer drive (but absolutely worth it, together with the beauty of Acadia state park). There are plenty of hikes in the area.
My husband and I really enjoyed our two-night stay at the farmhouse. The location is perfect to get to Camden, Lincolnville and Belfast all within 20 minutes. The house is well-appointed with everything you would need, including details that are often missing in rentals: the little things that make a house a home. It's large and comfortable. We slept in the renovated barn part of the house and enjoyed the high ceiling and fans. There is not much TV reception, so it's a great time to enjoy a book! We were a little disappointed that the pond was low and the water looked murky, as we were hoping our dog could go for a swim there. But Maine is experiencing a drought, and nature had it's way! The property is private and the house has a nice cozy atmosphere, being funky yet attuned to the traveler's needs. A great find!
The Moody Mountain house is a special place. This is our family's second time there, and once again, everyone had a wonderful time. The house is comfortable and well-appointed, and the property is very taken care of very well. It shows that the owners love their home and property. We will be back!
We loved staying at the Searsmont Farm. It is the epitome of a Maine vacation home in the middle of nowhere, but not too far out into nowhere. My wife and I, two of our friends, and my wife's cousin and her husband stayed here for 4 nights and aside from all of the charm of the space, one of the most remarkable things we found about the Searsmont Farm is the fact that it is so rambling and large that you really do have your own private space within the home. The rooms are all large, sunny, and far apart from each other (with the exception of the one room off the master bedroom, which no one stayed in during our visit). We kept getting lost in the house on the first night! We really loved the skylights in the master bedroom, and since there was a full moon, it was never actually dark (but being from Brooklyn we still wouldn't go to the bathroom alone - it's much darker out here than we are used to!). The property and the home are extremely well maintained and have every kitchen accessory and home appliance you could ever imagine, including laundry, which is a huge bonus when you are on vacation for a while. We loved the multiple porches and the large dining room table. Shout out to Tim, who answered all of our emails and calls about the property promptly and was friendly and entertaining.
The property is also rambling - there are fields, apple trees, raspberry bushes, grape vines... and lots of space to run around (the farm is dog friendly, and our dogs were thrilled to have this much open space!). My nieces came to visit one day and loved the tree house! Unfortunately the northeast is in the throws of a drought, so the pond was pretty low... but that didn't stop our friends from hopping onto the little dock and falling into the water. The Maine summer weather is also perfect - it was around 80 and sunny the entire duration of our stay.
Other highlights of the location include the proximity to Camen and Belfast, and all the local rivers, lakes, and ocean beaches. We went to several local farm stands for produce, and even got to tour Cross Patch farm, which we recommend for local, family-made farm goods. Thrasher's brewery is also great, and there is a growler at the Searsmont farm so you can get an $11 refill (a complete steal - love Maine microbrews!)
This is truly a very cool place and we would love to return in the future. Thanks so much!
We had a very enjoyable stay at this house. We felt so at home. The house is clean, welcoming, and so relaxing. It has everything you need. The views are lovely out of every window. It is also conveniently located; it's a quick trip into both Camden and Belfast. It was the perfect vacation. I hope we can go back at some point.
My husband and I really loved staying at the Searsmont Farm. The location was just perfect, a little out of town but close enough to enjoy Camden and Belfast. It's an old farm house but quite comfortable. Tim had the place all clean and ready for us. He was very quick at responding by email. We didn't have any problems. The grounds were lovely and the apples trees were full of fruit. We would definitely come back.
