Debbie purchased this house in 2000
This was my childhood home and could not seem to part with it. Thought it would be a great place for families to visit The DC area and be together
A safe place away from the City but close enough to visit each day. you can zoom out of the map on this site to see exactly where the property is located.
My family of 5 enjoyed our stay at this house (upper house only) It is very roomy and comfortable, nice kitchen (though no spices for cooking), and pleasant deck and huge front and back yards.
My family stayed at this property for a weekend soccer tournament. We stayed with several other families and the teenage boys. We had a lovely time at this quiet, secluded, yet close to everything home. There are stores of all kinds, (food, gas, restaurants, CVS, etccc) in close proximity. The yard is wonderful. We played volleyball in the side yard (the property has the entire set) when we were not on the soccer field, and had a game of castle going in the back yard. In the evenings we cooked out on the new grill and enjoyed time on the deck. The bedrooms are comfortable and the living room and dining room are quite spacious. The kitchen had most of what we needed, but I would suggest bringing your own tea towels, a dish sponge, and a large sharp knife or two that you are used to using. We travel often, and brought these items just because there have been other properties that did not have these. We were glad we did, as slicing watermelon requires a big sharp knife. I would also suggest, if you have kids, that you bring some of your own favorite indoor and outdoor games to play,. There were a few games there, but we brought extras. The owners were wonderful to deal with. We were booked for the weekend tournament, but when the boys made it to the finals we needed an extra night of lodging. Debbie was easily accessible by cell phone, and made the extra night a smooth deal. If we have another soccer tournament next year, we'll definitely rent this house again. Everyone was happy, and it's hard to please 4 families plus all the kids. Great place to make memories.
This home in a suburban neighborhood was a wonderful solution to housing our family and my brother's family during our extended family reunion. We rented the upper half of the house, with three bedrooms. Decorated in pleasant lightly warm neutrals, with hardwood flooring in the common areas and master bedroom, and an easy-care floor in the kitchen, with plenty of light and air, on our schedule the house provided place for our home-cooked breakfasts and place to return and talk in the evening. It is stocked with enough linens and towels for a houseful of guests. As part of a well-sized neighborhood of generously-sized single-family housing, I had plenty of pleasant and safe residential neighborhood in which to take 3-4 mile morning walks or jogs.
With both families we were a party of 12, with five in the living room on couch, sofa bed, and the comfortable cots the owner provided, same as the folding single bed cots I've been provided at hotels to accommodate more than a family of hour in a hotel. Our children are mostly college- and high-school aged. When only my family of five was in the house, the house felt very generously sized. The house is so pleasant I would have loved to have invited one or another of the local sibling families over for dinner or board games, but since some rentals like this one charge per guest per day even for an afternoon visit, it made more sense for us to have other family combinations all meet at the homes of relatives in who live in the area.
The clean large-sized refrigerator did not limit us in any way, whether stocked with groceries or our restaurant leftovers. I made use of the full four-burner gas cooktop but not the full-sized oven, or patio grill. The pots and pans were correctly sized to prepare dinner for a family of six, but might hinder meals for larger parties. On the other hand, there were more than enough plates, glasses, and silverware for our large party and then some, and a dishwasher to handle all our dishes. There is quite a nice toaster oven. Safeway and Giant are a couple miles away, which was quick by car.
The laundry washing machine and dryer is large enough to handle the needs of our large party, and to wash all our linens as wrapped up our stay. Its location off the kitchen was convenient, though any guests sleeping in the living room will hear either of the machines when running.
The owner was promptly responsive to our needs that came up during the week.
Six Flags amusement park, Washington DC, Baltimore aquarium and Inner harbor. Harpers Ferry and Gettysburg. Glenmont subway station is only 6.7 miles away and by bus you would walk half mile to the bus stop and it take 12 minutes to get to the train. 1.75 exact change
