Wonderful location, spacious and full of character

  • 5 of 5

This is a very special property designed and built by the owner and full of his wonderful original artwork. The views from all the main rooms are far reaching over rolling hills and countryside. There is space all round the property with different areas to sit in sunshine or shade and quirky little art installations. It was a joy to sit outside the kitchen under the vines and pick the grapes. There are three generous double bedrooms all clean comfortable and filled with characterful furniture. The open plan downstairs area was great for inside dining and relaxing and the kitchen was well equipped. We liked the idea of a separate upstairs sitting room which would be good for families. Basics such as soap, washing up liquid and dishwasher tabs were provided as well as plenty of towels and linen. We did have to make up our own beds on arrival but this allowed us to choose the rooms we wanted. The pool was well used and we liked the salt water which was soft and much kinder than chemicals. There is a lot to explore in the area and we visited Rome which is easy from more than one local station. We also drove to Villa Adriana - Tivoli (built by Hadrian) which was fascinating and lake Bracciano which was recommended by Tripadviser but was dead in September and not worth the drive. The local villages are full of character and worth walking through. Local shopping in Poggio Mirteto will allow you to buy all the essentials in a large supermarket at the top of town or in the lower town in individual wine, butchers, and fruit and vegetable shops. One thing to note- I recommend taking insect repellent for the rooms and for yourself as this was needed at all times of the day and night. The owners were very helpful giving us information before we arrived and their son Georgio met us as we came off the motorway to guide us to the villa. and show us around. Thank you for a wonderful stay in a very special place.

Fabulous holiday! Fabulous house!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday in beautiful surroundings, which far exceeded expectations! The house is spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. The garden is delightful with fruit trees in abundance. The pool area is much bigger than the photograph shows and the sun was on it until 7.30 pm. I would definitely return .

house Full of Character

  • 5 of 5

We are a middle aged couple who rented this house for a week in the middle of September 2015. I guess the house could be best described as 1960's style and is bursting with character and full of interesting things.

We were very happy to spend a week in this spacious house. We occupied one of the 3 bedrooms. The bed was large and comfortable and with the shutters closed the room was cool and dark at night. The french windows in this room opened at upper ground level into the garden.

The large split level living space was a pleasant area to relax in and is large enough to accommodate a normal family. The kitchen is large, well equipped and everything worked. The bathrooms (2) are fairly basic, but were perfectly adequate for our stay. In general the plumbing, electricity etc all worked perfectly. The advertised internet was not available.

The garden is large and very nice to relax in. the view across the valley is fantastic. Ancient olive tree dominate the garden with herbs (I've never seen so much rosemary) and other shrubs scattered between. The pool is great, we swam every day, which in September is a novelty for us.

The area is well placed for visits of all types with lakes, mountains, historical buildings and Rome itself all within about an hours drive,(car essential). If we were to visit the Lazio region again, this is the first place we would look to book.

A little piece of undiscovered Italy

  • 4 of 5

From the first enquiry, until we arrived Giorgio and family kept in touch with us regularly by email We were greeted on arrival by Lucia who showed us the house and gardens, and also recommended a local restaurant and had left details of tennis courts in the area for which we had asked. The house itself is very comfortable and well equipped, with all the utensils/crockery you need. It was very clean and we were provided with clean bedding and towels (unfortunately we could have done with a few more towels as there were five adults in our party and we only had one small bath towel and a hand towel each) although this was a minor inconvenience. There was plenty of room to relax. The views from the terrace and gardens are stunning, the photos can't do it justice! The pool was gorgeous and as we were blessed with good weather, it was a very welcome relief to be able to cool off in it. We had a problem with the electrics on the first day, but a phone call to Lucia was all that was needed, she travelled back to the villa and arranged plenty of candles and torches (and even offered for us to sleep in her home overnight) until the problem could be fixed the following day. She was extremely apologetic and helpful, exactly what you need in those situations. The rest of the holiday went without a hitch and we had a wonderful time. There are some lovely little villages to visit and the views driving to these are stunning. We visited a local restaurant in Castel San Pietro, il Cortigiano, the food was fabulous, the service by the two brothers who run the restaurant was wonderful and we would definitely recommend it. We also went to Poggio Mirteto and ate at the Peter Pan 2 restaurant, again the food was beautiful and the owner and staff very very friendly. We had a day trip to Rome, we went by train from Poggio Mirteto station to Tiburtina station and then caught the underground to the Colosseum, this was a very easy journey and took about an hour, much simpler than trying to drive. All our party had a great holiday and we would definitely recommend staying in this lovely house. Thank you to the Aite family,

"The photographs do not do the gardens and views from this old house justice. A very peaceful and lovely place with beautiful views. The swimming pool is nice and deep, and uses salt water rather than chlorine which is kinder to the eyes and skin. Kitchen is typical Italian farmhouse, plenty of seating outside on two patios. All the things we needed in a house and some nice artwork on the walls.

The owners where charming and fantastically good when we accidentally left a bag with passports, money etc at the motorway service on our way there. (The story had a happy ending thanks to their swift and efficient phoning round and the honesty of the motorway shop staff)

The town of Poggio Mirteto is about 20 minutes drive away. It''s a very pleasant little hill town with market square and cafes. It was easy to drive to the station and take a train into central Rome.

In all the holiday exceeded our expectations. Thank you!"
