This property is located in an idyllic valley surrounded by woods looking out over fields, hills, and a pond. The primary rental is a state of the art newly built barn-style accommodation. The spacious living room area, 28'x32', features a 20' ceiling, an open-hearth fire place, loft bookcases, a Steinway piano, Persian rugs, a sound system, wifi and an expansive view.
The kitchen/dining room, 16'x 38', features a 10-foot trestle table under an antique chandelier, granite kitchen, silent dishwasher, all normal appliances, including propane stove, and high quality service - dishes range from English, French and Italian pottery to local artisan works. The full-bath downstairs features Italian tiles, and two shower heads. The downstairs bedroom features a double bed with privacy curtains and deep pillows. The loft contains two bedrooms and a bath, as well as an outside ground level entry. The loft is extremely comfortable, private and has beautiful views looking up into the wooded hillside.
Available, if needed, is an older barn apartment with charm. Double bed, full bath plus additional outside shower, two single beds in the outer room and kitchenette make this a welcome addition to the property for guests and older children.
The pool and pond provide entertainment and relaxation for all ages. The perennial flower gardens add to the lush green surroundings. Birds and flowers are abundant, as are red-tailed hawks and occasional deer and foxes in the field across the way.
The proximity to Pine Plains, Millerton, Lakeville, Salisbury, Rhinebeck, Bard College, Tanglewood, Stockbridge, Williamstown, and New York City provides shopping and entertainment possibilities of all sorts. Only 20 minutes to the train for New York City allows access as needed.
We had a glorious weekend with old friends. The red barn is a wonderful spot nestled in the woods on a hill. The house has breathtaking views which are not to be missed. The home's eclectic style is the perfect spot for those who like to cook a meal and share it with friends. The large farm table and huge central island made the kitchen a joy to cook in. All we had to do was bring food as this house is so well-equipped. The rooms are small but well appointed and the unique location of one of the sleeping suites behind a wall of books gives this place harry potter charm. The five children in our group between the ages of eight and 13 found niches to Hyden and places to play as it rained for two days of our stay. None of them ever complained about a lack of television and we never told the kids about the Wi-Fi. Great place don't miss it. we are already planning our next trip!
Just returned from a great weekend at this beautiful spot. We lucked out with a sun-soaked weekend, which helped us enjoy the patio and covered porch, and stunning views across the valley. We also enjoyed the heated pool in a naturalized setting, with grasses and landscaping all around. The best features of the "barn" are its open kitchen and formal dining room for large family gatherings, as well as its cozy living room seating, surrounding a large, welcoming fireplace. We loved taking long walks on the quiet country roads. Note--hiking up The Hill is no joke, but the views are extraordinary and make it worth it. We recommend this house for one family or a friends' getaway.
We enjoyed our stay at this pretty, peaceful place in Hudson Valley. If you like a comfortable, relaxed place, sort of "shabby chic" style of country retreat, then you will like this. The view is amazing - of a grassy hill and a pond. forest behind the houses. There is a heated pool in its private garden.
The guest "barn" is a house with huge ceilings - one wall is ALL books! - with a big fireplace and lots of sofas to hang out. We liked the classic style of comfort and English / Colonial furniture and decor. It's not the layout of a hotel - but there were 6 of us, two couples and two kids - and the beds and rooms worked out well. It's a place to relax, not fancy. I would say it's perfect for families, or friends who want to just get together in a casual setting. An open kitchen and long dining table made for nice dinners for our group.
We took long hikes up the hill and around the neighboring horse farms. It was only 10 minutes from Millerton for movies gourmet food, and antique shopping.
The view is really amazing . The owners were friendly and have a nice yellow dog that hangs out with you (if you want). We would recommend this place to other vacationers.
We rented this house to enjoy the 4th of July wknd , we were mainly interested in the pool , coming from NYC is hard to enjoy a private pool. The driving distance from NYC is about an hour and a half not bad. We arrived 7/1/16 we met with the manager Larry , at the barn . The barn was not clean at all , there was spider webs, dead insects everywhere, bad odor. The bed sheets were dirty only some towels were clean. The barn has 3 beds , the rooms are not individually separated ,1 bathtub , 1 shower and toilet room. The kitchen is big and it has all kitchen utensils , there is plenty of seating area . One fireplace, three sofa beds, a tiny TV, a nice antique piano and plenty of books to read, board games, speakers,Washer and dryer, outdoor grill but very dirty. There is a small cottage at a walking distance into the woods with 3 beds and a bathroom and small kitchenette but it was very dusty , bad odor, spider webs and for worst the bathroom was dirty. We did not use the cottage as some of us have asthma . We could have rented a hotel in a different place like the manager suggested but because we have rented properties before and everything went well we thought it was going to be the same . We were not looking for luxury we just wanted to find something clean and get the service we paid for. One more thing the pool was not working , they sent someone to fix it but it never worked due to the filter not working and there was mold everywhere. On the day before leaving we ran out of water in the barn we had to shower in the cottage with cold water because there was no hot water. The barn offers amazing views and used to be a family retreat but unfortunately it is not well maintained. For last the owner only accepts checks or money order by mail.
Easy access to Tanglewood and Bard College, and 25 minutes from Rhinebeck Center for Performing Arts, as well as other Hudson Valley attractions. Nearby polo and fox hunting.
