Relax with family and friends enjoying the sunsets over Prior Lake! 4 Bedroom and 3 Bathroom Prior Lake Cottage with over 180 feet of Private Lake Frontage
Cottage History: In the 40's Harlen Anderson, a first generation American Swede bought this land from a farmer who thought this property was worthless because it was near the lake. The large boulders on the property were removed from the farm field for plowing and placed along the lake shore. The original cabin was what is now the bedroom with the fireplace & one of the little sheds along the side of the house was their biffy. When Harlen married Peggy they built the rest of the home. The wood used to build this cottage was from surrounding trees on the property; at that time there were no roads to get down here. The beams are from a pier in Duluth. The bricks on the sidewalk and patio are from Harlens old schoolhouse in Iowa. The staircase is from an old mansion on Summit Ave. in St Paul. The stain glass windows are from an old church. The plaque Wren Cliff outside the back door was the idea of Peggy's since she loved romance novels and in those books the estate usually had a name. Harlen loved trees and planted many on the property- the black walnut trees are 60-70 years old.
Liberty Bell Cottage: This newly furnished cottage is perched on small bluff with stunning southern view overlooking white pines on the hill side and Prior Lake. Since the cottage is above the lake it minimizes the boat noises and maximizes the serenity surrounding this cottage. The lake shore is accessible by everyone, either a private wooden staircase in the backyard or a shared private road one house down. The property adjacent to the lake is flat with two stepping stones into the lake. The cottage includes a private dock, row boat, kayaks, paddle boat and paddle board, bikes and yard games.
Prior Lake: This vacation home is located on the Northern side of Lower Prior Lake. Lower Prior Lake is 956 acres with a maximum depth of 60 feet. Upper Prior Lake is 386 acres with a maximum depth of 50 feet. Prior Lake is located in the City of Prior Lake in Scott County, Minnesota. Lower Prior Lake connects with Upper Prior Lake via a navigable channel that passes under Eagle Creek Ave. The lake is primarily managed for walleye and largemouth bass and secondarily managed for northern pike and bluegill. It is a wonderful recreational lake for any family to enjoy. There is a lakeside restaurant/pub with boat parking, boat rental and gas dock available on Prior Lake.

Great house with plenty of activities to enjoy. Nice large all sport lake.
This house was great for our girls' week-end. We have been getting together for close to 20 years, and this was one of the most spacious homes we have stayed in. The welcome basket and bottled water were so nice. The kitchen was well equipped. The home is located close to many metro area activities, but with the beautiful lake, you really don't want to leave. It was nice not driving a great distance for a nice house on the lake.
Our family stayed at the Liberty Bell house for a short vacation. We had 3 couples, a single adult, and 3 small children-10 in total. The house provided more space than we even needed and plenty of places for the little ones to play. The house was fully stocked with anything we could need (minus food obviously) and there was even a welcome basket of treats amd water in each room! Our family enjoyed the ping pong table and the lake toys (kayak, paddle boat, row boat, paddle board). We also enjoyed the lawn toys, fire pit, and bikes! We thought we'd spend more time exploring Minneapolis but we were perfectly content in the house and on the lake. I could go on, but if you are looking for spacious, high quality lodging with lots of fun outdoor activities, this is the place to stay! It is also beautifully directed.
We stayed at the Liberty Bell cabin with another family for Memorial Day weekend and it could not have worked out better. The house is charming with plenty of room for kids and adults and very well-equipped. The property is beautifully maintained and the location on the lake was perfect. We kayaked, went fishing off the pier, and played yard games - all which were included with the cabin. The property manager Cindy was very accommodating and we are very happy we stayed at the Liberty Bell. It made for a great trip.
We came from germany to visited our american side of the family and rented Liberty Bell for a small reunion with the US side of the family. We had a great time. Liberty Bells location is wonderful. The house is very well equiped there was nothing we missed. The service is excellent and always responds very fast and solved all minor problems right away.
We had a great time with the family and could relax. What we enjoyed most is that it feels so remote out in the nature but you are still really close to the city. We had great day trips and wonderful days that we just enjoyed the lake and the house.
We'd love to come back one day.
My wife and I were looking for a weekend get-away close to the Twin Cities in which to host wedding events for a few close friends and family. We cannot speak highly enough about Liberty Bell Cottage. From the accommodations, to the amenities, to the surrounding beauty of the lake, we were honored to stay here. The owners and managers of Liberty Bell have thought of everything to allow their guests to have a fun and relaxing experience; from kayaks and a paddle oat, to a fire pit, bicycles and yard games. Our guests were comfortable and being here, it is very easy to forget how close to the city you are. The cottage is beautiful, the communication with the property manager was excellent, the decor is wonderful. One thing that was very special to us was learning the history of the cottage and sharing it with our family and friends. There are so many architectural elements that make Liberty Bell a truly unique and meaningful gem. The cottage sits high on a bluff which we thought would not be ideal, but with record floods this past summer, it was wonderful not to worry about that and the views from the bedrooms were stunning and majestic. The biggest problem for us was choosing which of the wonderful bedrooms to sleep in because they were all perfect and have great views of the trees and the lake. We are excited to return in the future.
