Our cottage, Babbling Brook, is set on just over half an acre of land and offers contemporary living accommodation in the heart of Kerry countryside. Accommodation is spread across one level and rooms are light and spacious. The cottage has wood and tiled floors throughout and modern facilities.

All rooms lead off a spacious hallway, with living accommodation at one end of the property and sleeping accommodation at the other end.

The cottage features a large, open-plan and well-equipped kitchen/diner with seating for six. The kitchen/diner leads into a cosy, seated summer-room and sliding doors opening onto an outside patio area with a wooden table and benches.

There is a separate, comfy lounge with three sofas, open fire, satellite TV, and Blu-ray DVD.

The two bedrooms with double beds have en suite facilities which include a shower, wash basin and WC. The bedroom with twin single beds is adjacent to the family bathroom which has a bath, hand shower, basin and WC.

Fishing: Caragh Lake and Caragh River, containing salmon and trout, offer excellent fishing opportunities.

The kitchen/diner, utility room and bathrooms all have tiled floors. The remainder of the cottage has wood flooring throughout. Babbling Brook is not only a rental property but also our home in Ireland and we hope that guests will enjoy the little 'extras' that a comfortable home provides. A selection of DVDs, books, jigsaws and games are available for guests’ use. We also like to keep some basics such as salt & pepper, olive oil, tea, coffee, sugar, spices and more, for guests' convenience and comfort as well as our own. All we politely ask is that guests kindly replace what they use.

A fantastic place to stay in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

this holiday home really is home from home. It is large, spacious and a kitchen do die for with everything you could possibly need in it! It is ideal for families, large groups and couples with 3 bedrooms each with adequate storage space with en suites off 2 of the bedrooms and a separate bathroom too! So nobody will be queuing for a shower. The owners have left plenty of tourist info and guidance, and instructions for everything. There are even bikes to use in the shed. They were extremely accommodating with a query we had with the DVD player and very amiable. The location is superb as a base for exploring Kerry, just a few miles away from mountains and the spectacular coastal scenery. Just one tiny quibble and that is that you won't be able to walk to Lake Caragh although it is located next to it - nearly all the land on the banks is privately owned by other residences and hotels. But a short bike ride will take you round the other side. I would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone thinking of coming to Kerry.

Owner's Response: Lake Caragh is on the opposite side of the road to our cottage and can be accessed by a narrow public path approx 500m away which leads to a tranquil spot on the shore from where you can enjoy the mountain and lake view. You cannot walk around the lake shore, though, because of the private gardens to properties that back on to it.

Large home, clean, and great location!

  • 5 of 5

We had so much room at this home. It was 3 adults and two children but can easily have more people. Two living spaces, a large kitchen, and large hallway were great for the kids to play. They had lots of movies which was great. Laundry was awesome to have since we got so dirty during the day with the rain. While there we did the Gap of Dunloe, Dingle Peninsula, Ring of Kerry, and Ross Castle. This home was a good base for those areas. Kitchen was well stocked. Only negative was that it was hard to get wifi.

A well kept and well equipped house, clean and spacious.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this house as a family of 4. It was a well kept house, clean, comfortable and spacious, in a quiet rural location, reasonably close to Killorglin and with good access to the Ring of Kerry.

House has a well equipped and spacious kitchen, and the selection of games and puzzles was appreciated.

The owners had provided some comprehensive and very helpful recommendations of local places to visit, including directions on how to get to a very quiet (almost private) sandy beach. Our kids had a brilliant time playing there - and on the nearby sand dunes at Rossbeigh.

The Kerry countryside is some of the most beautiful we have ever seen.

Only niggles (and they were only minor) were that one of the showers was not working properly when we stayed, and the water pressure was a bit low on the other shower, so could have benefitted from a power shower. The internet access was a bit limited as relied on vodaphone dongle, but that's to be expected given the rural location. A small DVD collection was available for use, although most of the DVDs were only suitable viewing for age 12 and over.

We would recommend this as a place to stay if wanting to holiday in Southern Ireland and explore the Killarney National park and surrounding area.

Caragh Lake is a picturesque spot on the fringe of the Ring of Kerry, rural and serene, a perfect setting in which to relax and get away from it all. Caragh Lake itself, approx 5 miles long, is set back on the opposite side of the road to Babbling Brook and can be accessed by a nearby path. Fishing and boating equipment for use on the lake is available to hire close by. Opposite Babbling Brook is Carrig Country House which boasts one of the finest restaurants in Kerry, overlooking the lake.

The area is excellent for walking, cycling, bird-watching, sightseeing and other activities such as fishing, golfing, horse-riding and water sports. The Cappanalea Outdoor Education Centre, which offers a range of adventure sports activities, is just 15 minutes’ drive.

Babbling Brook is also ideally located for exploring the magnificent sights and places of interest this beautiful county offers including the Ring of Kerry, the rugged Gap of Dunloe, the Dingle and Beara peninsulas and local scenic spots situated off the tourist track, such as the Ballaghbeama Gap. The cottage is just a few minutes' drive from two beautiful sandy beaches and several golf courses (see below). There are shops, banks, other award-winning restaurants and traditional, welcoming pubs in Killorglin - home to the Puck Fair festival - and also Glenbeigh village, both less than 4 miles away.

Killarney, a larger bustling town full of character and more shops, restaurants and pubs, is a very pleasant 30 minutes’ drive and a ‘must-see’ part of Kerry. It is home to the beautiful Muckross National Park with its fabulous views of the Macgillycuddy reeks. For those who like a flutter, Killarney’s racecourse hosts several horse racing events over the spring and summer and is set in the most magnificent backdrop of mountain and lake scenery.

Golf: There is a fabulous selection of local golf courses, including nearby Dooks Golf Club (a links course in a stunning location overlooking the sea), Beaufort Golf Club and Killorglin Golf Club. All are just 5 - 10 minutes' drive from Babbling Brook. There are other golf courses located slightly further afield, including Killarney and Tralee (both approx 30 minutes' drive).
