|Minimum Stay||1 - 3 nights|
Relax by the ocean side pool with a cup of coffee while watching the pelican’s dive for their breakfast. Every morning you can walk with the sand between your toes and find starfish at the waters edge.
La Buena Vida is a fully equipped 2 bedroom, 2 ½ bath piece of paradise. Featuring Ticul (Stone) flooring throughout. All appliances, fully equipped kitchen and a beautiful full length patio and terrace overlooking the gulf of Mexico.
There is a cruise ship port (Progreso) that is about 10 minutes away by car, which is just far enough away from the busy crowds of the cruise ship activity.
You can take a stroll down the beach to Chelem and see that it is full of wonderful people. The town of Chelem has a fresh food market with lots of fresh seafood and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
There are many things to do around Chelem, if you feel like pulling yourself away from the pool and the beach.
Merida is a beautiful cultural city with about 1,000,000 people. There is plenty of shopping with many Malls, Walmart, Home depot, Sam’s Club and Costco. There is also many Casinos and many movie theaters also with some VIP movie theaters with leather reclining chairs and small lamps and also a waiter/waitress so you can order some food. If you love to go to the movies you will love it even more in Merida.
This is our first beach home and we love it so much. We are very excited to share our piece of Paradise with all of you.
Kelly and Tim King purchased this house in 2013
We had talked about where we wanted to retire and my husband wanted to check out Florida but I ask him if he would consider looking outside of the country and he said yes so we started in Lake Chapala which is near Guadalajara, MX. We liked it there but we didn't feel quite as safe as we did when we came to visit the Yucatan and we absolutely fell in love with the people and the quaint fishing village. The water is so beautiful and its a very peaceful feeling just sitting by the waters edge. Once in awhile we get some friendly iguanas hanging out on top of our walls surrounding the houses.
I was there in July of this year (2014) with my brother and his new wife. They were walking along the beach back from Chelem and 3 dogs came running up to them. They got two of them to go away but one of the dogs stayed by them and followed them to our house and just kind of made herself comfortable and started protecting our property. Any time any people were walking on the beach she would get on the side of the pool and walk the length of it until the people were off of our property. We have decided to keep her. My brother Ken and his wife Tammy have named her Lucy. She is a wonderful addition to our Paradise.
When we first saw our property I was amazed at how large the lot was. The homes were not finished they were basically a shell for each house. They just had the foundation and walls which were made of cement and then we decided to renovate each home (two done at this time) up to North American Standards. The difference is amazing. I will put a book together to show how our progress has made it what it is today.
We LOVED this house! Really clean, luxurious, beautiful - We felt very safe, supported, inspired, creative, and relaxed. It's in a quiet small fishing town with a few restaurants - be sure you drive through 2 towns to the west so you can see the flamingos. You'll likely need to go to Merida for groceries but it's only 30min drive. It was great to have your own private beach spot, few people ever walking by even. The pool was lovely. It was a little far from the cenotes and temples which meant it would be a full days adventure to go. The sea is a lovely emerald green. Hosts were easy to communicate with and the on-site caretaker was very helpful with any questions.
Kelly and Tim's place was so beautiful! We woke up to the sound of ocean waves and spent most days in the pool or basking in the sun. There is a staircase from the pool deck to the sandy beach below that is part of the property. The beach is not very wide and we had a lot of wind so some seaweed washed up onshore which made lying on the beach less desirable. However, swimming, snorkelling etc were awesome as the water was warm and we had comfortable deck chairs to bask in the sun on the pool deck. There is a swim up bar area as well. The beds were comfortable and there was a large gate and fence that protected the property. The rental manager was awesome and a phone call away if we needed anything. This house is a 30 min drive from Merida where we purchased groceries at places like Walmart and Costco. We loved that Chelem had little, quaint, authentic restaurants that we enjoyed on occasion and we also took in some local fishing. The people were friendly but many couldn't speak English so we plan to brush up on some spanish before we go back. The entire experience was a 10/10 and much better than an all inclusive. At night, we played cards or games or read (books, games and movies are provided if you don't bring your own). There was a huge flat screen tv and wifi never failed us. We will definitely go back!
The property itself if beautiful. Oceanfront, private pool with swim up bar, plenty of space and privacy. We rented the main house (this listing) and no one was in the condo, so we were in complete privacy. The check-in and check-out processes were easy and our stay couldn't have been better. We didn't want to leave!! Thanks for letting us enjoy your beautiful home.
Thank you so much for allowing my family to rent your home! What an amazing house stocked with everything needed. We were only there a few days visiting with a friend who retired in the area. I can see why she fell in love with the area and the people. I hope to return and spend more time sight seeing.
We just want to thank Kelly & Tim for opening their home to us! We stayed for the entire month of July 2016 and have to say that the house exceeded our expectations! The home is large and accommodates 6 people to sleep but could entertain a great deal more. We found the house was well stocked with linens, towels, basic toiletries, as well as the kitchen was well stocked for my husband(who is a chef) to prepare our meals! The pool was beautiful and beach access easy and convenient, if you wanted to cool down indoors the air conditioning worked great. We spent a great deal of our time just relaxing at the pool and there was always something different to see. Sailboats, sea dos, fishermen daily or octopus fisherman at night, kite surfers, and finally on the last day 2 dolphins diving in and out of the waves! Lastly our property managers Martie and Veronica were always around if we needed anything! Thank you again for an unforgettable vacation, we will be back!!
Our stay at La Buena Vida was way too short. We were only in town for 4 days total but, we couldn't have picked a better place to stay or more enjoyable people to rent from. Every detail was taken care of and there was nothing for us to do but relax and enjoy the house and the outrageous view. We loved it so much we bought a home in the area!
My husband and I stayed at Casa La Buena Vida the months of Feb. and March 2016. Our son and family visited us in March and our daughter and family visited in Feb. The house and grounds are beautiful and equipped with anything you could need. I cooked a lot and every utensil I could think of was there. The beds were very comfortable and the bedding was lovely. I would put this home against any in the area and this one would outshine them all. Tim and Kelly have done an outstanding job. They even furnish paper products, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel!!! We loved the pool and ocean and sleeping to the sound of waves.
We didn't have a car and so we used public transportation. They are small vans that travel the beach road from Progreso to Chelem. Standing at the end of the driveway the van would stop and take us to Chelem for 9 pesos ( 50 cents US) . There is a combi (van) stand in Chelem where we could get a ride back. We would stand on the opposite side of the road to go to Progreso for the same price. They hold 15 passengers. There are three nice grocery stores in Progreso and also a huge fruit and vegetable market. When family were here we went to the Uxmal ruins and also Tres Cenotes. Kelly provides the number of two taxi drivers, one with a small cab that we used for just my husband and myself and a van driver when our families were with us. They were inexpensive. We especially grew to love our van driver who took our family to five cenotes, swam with us and chose our restaurant! He even got us guides for both the ruins and cenotes! This area is the safest area in Mexico. No violent crime at all. We felt very safe walking down the road to a local restaurant. And if you want a cultural experience then Merida is for you. It is a half hour away, the cleanest city you will ever be in and it has every kind of store, restaurant and entertainment you could think of.
Our favorite restaurants in Chelem are Tacomaya, Lizard Joes and Bull Pen. We also loved La Playa which is on the beach within walking distance and Sol Y Mar in Progreso.
Also, the property manager is within a call to help with any needs and the caretaker and his family is there to service the pools and keep the grounds beautiful. We fell in love with the caretakers family. Such warm and friendly people!
Tim and Kelly have a beautiful property in Mexico and we are very thankful they shared it with us. We had two months in paradise and we hope to go back again and visit soon. We love it there!!
There is LIVE THEATER, SYMPHONY AND OPERA in Merida.
The town of Cuzama is known for the large number of cenotes found there. Especially unique is a tour that you can do in this area where you will visit three cenotes. If you go to the hacienda in Cuzama, you can hire a guide who will put you on a platform buggy pulled by horses along interesting paths through the surrounding countryside. The main cenotes are: Chelentun (laying down rock), Chansinic'che (tree with small ants) and Bolochoojol (nine drops of water). The Chelentun Cenote has incredibly blue and clear water, with excellent visibility. Stalactite and stalagmite formations add to its unique beauty. There is such beauty in the Cenotes.
