About Jim Reid
I moved to New Hampshire many years ago to go to UNH, and like many others, I never left. Why would I?
Jim Reid purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Jim Reid chose Portsmouth
By the time I realized the Kingsbury House was for sale, it was already under agreement. I put in a back up offer, the original deal came apart, and I became the owner of what I feel is one of the best properties in this awesome town.
What makes this Cottage unique
This has been my home, and the home of my daughters, until they grew up left the nest, for the past twelve years. I'm only now exploring the sharing of it with others. I've heard of many great experiences and connections through VRBO and I'm excited to share this home with people who will enjoy and respect it.

We had a great weekend - Jim's cottage is in a perfect location to really enjoy Portsmouth! The parking area was super convenient and Jim made everything easy and comfortable. Thanks!
We rented Jim’s unit for a girls weekend away and have to say the experience was fantastic! Not only was Jim a wonderful host but the property was unique and in the BEST location! We felt right at home and enjoyed sitting at the fire pit with a glass of wine and people watching. Portsmouth is such a friendly town loaded with restaurants, bars, and shops. After exploring the town we were able to enjoy the hot tub and get ready for another night of fun! The house was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We would love to return someday and would recommend this gem to anyone!
Perfect location. Lovely accomodations. Very helpful hostin Jim Reid.
Right in the heart of it all. Off street parking very important & appreciated. Beautiful bathrooms...massive master bedroom. Filled with charm. Tasteful and cosy....thank you Jim Reid for your help....and our dogs were happy here with back courtyard to exploreand squirrel-warch!
Jim’s Cottage in Portsmouth NH
Excellent; great location, exceptionally clean and wonderful host. Could not have been better!
Gorgeous, Comfortable, Fantastic location, Superb host!
We (couple who are both college professors) are repeat visitors to this location after a superb experience last year. The host is incredibly warm and helpful - there are welcome drinks (including wine) and snacks in the fridge, a very well-stocked coffee maker, and all the creature comforts like umbrellas and all kinds of accessories and fascinating books about the local town. We just love being so close to everything, sitting in the beautiful garden in the morning drinking coffee, walking to the river, etc. We had an even better experience this year as we knew where to go and what to do. It is nice to have so much room to spread out. The decor is very relaxing, laid back. Great place to relax. Very, very comfortable and I am super super picky about everything (temperature, smells, etc). Host has great restaurant recommendations and everyone in town seems to know him. Definitely recommend, both the place, and the town!
Linda thank you so much! It really was a treat to have you both back this year - hopefully it can be an annual event :-). Glad you enjoyed your stay, and I hope all is going well for you!
We felt relaxed the moment we arrived. The cottage is right in town, walking distance to everything. Jim could not have been more welcoming or helpful. He even sent us a list of dog friendly restaurants, nearly all of which we found time to enjoy while in town. A stone's throw from the bridge to Kittery... amazing walk in the salty air. Five stars!
Thanks for the nice remarks Jennifer! It was really a pleasure to meet you, Pete, and Mr. Shunderson! You were all wonderful to host... I'd love to think we'll see you again! (and thanks again for the thoughtful treats you brought for Isabel!)
The Kingsbury Cottage is a beautiful, comfortable 1815 historic home in what is likely the best location in town. Walk to Prescott Park, Strawbery Banke, Maine, Music Hall, several other theaters, fun nightspots, and countless restaurants. Free plays in the park almost every night in summer, free concerts on Wednesday nights (check schedule at the Prescott Park website). Sightseeing cruises are a short walk from the house, as are many Historic Home tours.
