Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cabin in Florissant

This cozy cabin is located high in the Rocky Mountains on Lake Magnuson in Florissant, Colorado, about an hour from Colorado Springs. It is just a short 14 miles from the historic mining and gambling town of Cripple Creek, Colorado. Relax in a peaceful setting, nestled in the aspens of a secluded, picturesque valley. Wake up to the deer grazing outside the cabin. It has been the "HOMEAWAY" for many honeymoons, anniversaries, marriage proposals, and birthdays, etc.

The cabin is an A-frame with the bedroom upstairs. There is a queen-sized bed , along with a futon for watching television, reading, sitting or just sleeping. Relax while watching DIRECT TV and HBO. Outside the bedroom is a covered sitting area with two chairs and a table, looking out toward the lake.

Downstairs is a fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom, and living room. TV Service on the 42" Smart TV is provided by DIRECT TV and includes HBO . There is also Satellite WIFI for you Google buffs, which, added to Smart TV, enables you to access Netflix, Hulu, etc Sirius radio provides all types of music for your listening pleasure. The wood-burning stove provides quiet, comfortable warmth. As you walk through the patio doors onto the deck, overlooking the lake, there is a barbecue grill, log bench and outdoor patio furniture. The lake is a one minute walk from the cabin. Fishing is allowed but no boats or swimming.

Outside the kitchen, is a second deck, with additional seating and a small firepit

"The Only Cabin On The Lake" is a great place to spend time alone, with your loved ones, or friends. You can enjoy the proximity to gambling, restaurants, small towns, and still be secluded. During the winter, Teller County plows the roads well. You can park your vehicle within 15' of the cabin door, making it easy access.

Check-in is at 3PM and check-out is at 11Am.

Make this your next HOMEAWAY.

Nice, quiet home away from the city with plenty of room for a dog, and a great view.

The only cabin on the lake is exactly how it is advertised. There is plenty of space to explore and multiple patios give you very nice scenery to relax. There is a decent-sized backyard for the dog with a dog shelter that should keep your pet nice and dry. The kitchen comes with everything you need to cook meals, and there was lots of firewood (which was much appreciated in March). The house itself is pretty small, but very cozy for 2 people. It also has internet with enough speed to browse the web and check mail, but it is very slow for a city standard (don't expect to stream any videos).

All-in-all, my wife, my dog, and I had a very relaxing time and recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable getaway house in the southern Rocky Mountain Colorado area.

Owner's Response: Chris, Thanks for the review and stay. With Direct TV at the cabin, you can record your own movies to add to our already stored list. This is the first mention of a streaming issue with Netflix or the high-speed satellite internet , so I will check it out. Leslie and Rick

I am so sorry to have to do this, but we had it reserved for 4 days, and had to leave after only one night. The bed upstairs was so hard. The down stairs pull out bed was like sleeping on a bed of slinky's. We didn't sleep all night. We didn't feel safe on the stairs, they were steep and narrow. My daughter and little ones were going to join us, had to drive up a ways to call her to cancel, no phone service. The tall grass around the pond might of had tic's, didn't feel safe for little ones to fish there. Just a few thoughts to consider. The linens and pillows didn't smell clean, nor did the furniture. Sorry, a big disappointment for us. Called to let them know we were leaving. Had to leave a message. We stated no reason why, and we didn't even get a call back. Hummmmmm?

Owner's Response: We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay. At 8am on the morning after your check-in (two weeks ago), I emailed you and said "Email me if you need anything, I am only 30 minutes away". To date, I have not received a response. One reason why I conduct all communication through VRBO or Homeaway is to provide a record of all contacts. Had you responded, we could have discussed the concerns and perhaps reached a solution. I have no control over if and where there might be ticks. This is a rural area. Also, I am confused about the number of guests since your original request stated four and your review refers to five?? Five is a stretch for the cabin. I am not sure who slept in the fold-out bed downstairs if you slept upstairs and your daughter and kids did not come, since you only stayed one night. Leslie and Rick

The A-frame house was very nice and functional inside. The porches were newly redone with great view

Great location even though it was a bit hard to find. Need larger house numbers for us old blind guys. Beautiful views. Spend mornings sitting on the porch watching the trout come to the surface on the lake. In the evenings a mule deer doe would graze by the house on her way to drink. About 1 in the mornings, bears would visit out garbage cans (which are gratefully bear proof) on their way to the lake. Turned over cans and paw prints in the mud near the lake shore were the norms for us. Wish I had been brave enough to try to get a good look, but you never surprise a hungry bear--nor do you feed them. It was funny just listening to them.

Fishing was easy with small Mepps lures (be sure to cut or crush and barbs so the fish will not be injured). Also, without barbs, most fish were able to throw the hook after a good jump and just a bit of time on the line--to be so aggressive, they are oh so fragile. We walked about the housing addition--at @9000 feet, one must be sure to pace themselves as the air is thin and are not as many oxygen molecules as my home at 446 feet above sea level. House and kitchen were in good shape. We grilled steaks and corn on the cob two nights.

Nice place (the name escapes me) in Florissant to eat breakfast and lunch and coffee and freshly made cinnamon rolls. GOOD pizza place and adequate grocery store in Divide just about 8 miles toward Co Springs. There were nice easy hikes in the National Fossil Monument. Everything moves slowly (no air) which makes for a relaxing trip.

Owner's Response: Charles, I am glad you enjoyed the trip. You are right, pacing yourself, if from a lower altitude is a good idea. Thank you so much for leaving the fishing poles. That was a very nice gesture. Although it is "The Only Cabin On The Lake", your suggestion concerning the address numbers is duly noted. Thanks again for staying with us. Leslie and Rick

Beautiful get away

  • 5 of 5

My husband took me here for my birthday, and we had a wonderful time. The cabin was nicely decorated, clean, and well equipped. I would point out that there is very limited cell service for some companies in this area, so you may want to print details out prior to arriving. We did have some complications with the wifi, but owner was quick to respond with help. Looking forward to returning in the future.

Quaint, cozy, rustic luxury! I still can't seem to get the beauty of this property out of my head. Its well kept, and tastefully decorated. The views from the porch, and hot tub were fantastic. It was the perfect getaway for my family and I- including the dog! We all had a beautiful time with just the right amount of privacy and seclusion that we were looking for in our weekend getaway. We are hoping to return sometime in the winter for a whole new experience!

Thank you, Leslie and Rick! You've done an absolutely wonderful job with you cabin.

Really enjoyable stay. You could really see that s lot of little details went in to this cabin for a very pleasant visit. Perfect for a weekend get away into the mountains and close enough that it was a easy drive. I would recommend this cabin to my friends!
