If you've never been to Nice before, this studio is the perfect introduction. I stayed here for 18 days, and was sorry when I had to return to Paris.
Guy was the best landlord/host ever! Friendly, helpful, and professional, he picked me up at the train station and gave me a little tour of the neighborhood before we went to the apartment. He had stocked the fridge with everything you need for breakfast -- milk, juice, yoghurt, fresh fruit, eggs, bread and more (coffee of course!) If you've ever arrived at an apartment, tired from your journey, only to discover that you must immediately go out and shop for food, you know how much this means.
The studio is small, but it has everything you need. There is plenty of closet space and drawers to store your belongings.
The location of the apartment is unbeatable. At the southern end of the Old Town, you are right at the east end of the famous Cours Saleya, the big outdoor market, ringed with cafes and shops. I timed how long it took for me to walk from the apartment to these places:
2 minutes to the Cours Saleya
3 minutes to the beach (and Guy even has beach umbrellas)
2 minutes to rue Droit, filled with wonderful restaurants, bakeries, etc.
10 minutes to the nearest Tourist Office (where they speak English and are very friendly and helpful)
15-20 minutes to the public buses to Cannes or St Paul de Vence
15-20 minutes to the public buses to Cimiez (Matisse museum and Chagall museum)
In short, you can have the best of the Old Town and the sea. The apartment is well-stocked with maps and tourist information for activities in Nice and other nearby towns along the coast and up in the hills. It's very easy to go on day trips, as the buses are air-conditioned and only cost 1.5 euros!
I also want to mention that the apartment has superb internet connectivity -- my laptop always showed 5 bars out of 5! This means you can watch TV in real-time. Just Google "watch France 24 English" for the French news 24/7, or Google "watch CNN live" to see what's happening in the US. If you have a Netflix account, you can watch many American TV series.
On my last day in Nice, Guy drove me back to the train station, and I took the TGV to Paris. I took the bus to my new apartment, where a single bottle of Evian water awaited me. Seriously.
I miss Guy's apartment already. I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes to live like a local -- much more fun (and a much better value) than a hotel.
Guy was very nice. He showed us around town and provided food and a lot of maps. The studio looks better in person than the pictures provided. In the evenings it can get a little noisy but I was too tire and able to sleep through the noise.
We could not have asked for anyplace better than this apartment. It was close to the beach, to the shops and cafe. It allowed us to feel a part of the Old Town, which was what we wanted. Thanks to Guy, who picked us up from the train station with a warm welcome, then showed us the Important things for our visit around the city, and left us with a fridge full of food. We would have stayed longer if we could have.
We spent a week at Guy's apartment, and we could not have asked for a better stay. We would have stayed longer if we could. We were met at the train station by a smiling Guy, shown some of the highlights if Nice, then arrived at the apartment to a fridge full of food. A comfortable bed, a great location, and a great price. We loved feeling a part of the Old Town for a week.
