This renovated 1932 home features both the contemporary and classic aesthetic of Santa Cruz. Located on a quiet and picturesque street two blocks from the Pacific Ocean, you and your guests will be within short walking distance to beaches, the multi-use walking and biking path along West Cliff Dr, and local markets and restaurants.

The large panoramic windows in the living room provide a stunning view of the Monterey Bay, and on a clear day, clear across the bay to Pacific Grove. This is a great sized home for two couples, or couples with kids looking for the exciting activities Santa Cruz has to offer!

The spacious kitchen features ample counter space, along with all the necessities (stove, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, keurig, dishwasher, tea kettle, dishware, etc.) all under beautiful natural lighting provided by skylights. The dining room provides seating for 4, or 6 with an extendable leaf.

The Master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and large closet with built in drawers.

The second bedroom offers 2 twin-sized beds.

There is a separated full studio apartment in the back yard with a queen-sized bed, bathroom with shower, and a flat screen HD TV connected to Netflix, Amazon, etc, as well as a Blu-Ray/DVD player, and Wii U gaming console.

The living room has abundant and comfortable couch seating (twin-sized pull out bed in couch), an HD TV (connected to Netflix, Amazon, HBO, as well as a Blu-Ray/DVD player), a bookcase holding a large collection of books, movies, board games, drawing materials, a guitar, and more. Cozy up in the evening and enjoy the original tiled fireplace with a family fun activity or movie.

Bluetooth compatible sound systems are found in the living room and studio apartment, and the kitchen has a sound system with auxiliary cable plug in.

The back yard has an outdoor dining table that seats 4 or 6 with a leaf under a cantilever umbrella. Under the gazebo, enjoy comfortable lounge seating during the day or night. Relax on one of the 2 chaise lounge chairs provided in the back yard. A propane BBQ is set up next to the dining table. Wash off after a day at the beach in the outdoor rain shower tucked away behind a privacy screen.

Additional amenities include four bikes with helmets and locks; 1 mountain bike, 2 hybrid bikes, 1 beach cruiser (additional mountain bikes available for rent upon request), 3 skateboards; 2 long boards, 1 short board. These are stored behind the studio for your use while you visit. 2 boogie boards, and one surfboard are stored for your use in the studio apartment. Surf lessons and rentals are just a short drive or bike ride away at Cowels Beach, as well as Kayak rentals on the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf, the Santa Cruz Harbor, and further south at the Elkhorn Slough. There are also beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, footballs, baseballs and gloves, Frisbees and more for your use. 2 additional full sized air mattresses are also available.

This home has been in my family for the last forty years. It is perfect not only in its size and location but its inate ability to make you feel like you are right where you need to be. My family and I love to take in the views while walking or biking around the neighborhood, and it is only a few blocks to get to the beach or grab a bite at one of the numerous eateries located nearby. It is easy to capture the essence of beach town life here at Woodrow, and we offer that opportunity to you!

What makes this house unique

Avoid the crowds with this beach house while also having access to nearby stores and restaurants. Sit on the porch and watch as others go by carrying surfboards on their bikes or skateboards, or better yet go join them! The location of this place cannot be stressed enough. Close enough to get a piece of the action while reserving the option to sit back and take in the calm and relaxed atmosphere.

Spacious and close to the beach

Stayed at 224 Woodrow over Christmas, 2016, December 22-26, with younger son and daughter, 6-year-old granddaughter, and my former wife and her partner. Found the place to be just right for a group this size. Best things about it: BIG kitchen with plenty of room for the 6 of us, plus my older son, daughter-in-law, and 6-year-old grandson, who live in Bonny Doon, to gather and eat together; the separate studio cottage where my daughter and granddaughter stayed; the two-minute walk to the beach for walks at sunset; the bikes for my daughter and granddaughter to ride. Very clean and well-furnished, especially the kitchen. Not cheap, but worth the cost for a larger family group. Close to Natural Bridges state park and other good outdoor places. Would definitely recommend the place to a group of 6

August vacation at Classic Beachside Retreat

This beautiful house has a great view of the ocean and is well located relative to downtown Santa Cruz and several beaches. We spent some time at Manresa Uplands beach, did some hiking at Wilder Ranch, and took a "whisper" cruise on Elkhorn Slough, among other things. For the second time, we really enjoyed Santa Cruz and this house.

We loved this home. Our family of 6 adults and 4 children were all very well accommodated.

This property is very well maintained and in a great location. We loved having bikes and easy access to bike paths. The outdoor areas were wonderful. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Awesome location and host!

I would recommend Carls place without hesitation!

It has everything you need for trips to the beach, or if you want to just relax the outside patio is great. Best beach house I have ever rented! We will be back next year for sure.

The only area to improve are the beds, particularly the one in the studio. Needs to be larger and more comfortable. Otherwise, this is by far the best place we have found in Santa Cruz!

Older house and very charming

We had a very comfortable and fun stay at this rental. The court yard is attractive and inviting. The house does not have curb appeal but is well equipped and updated inside. We had a great family reunion. My son and his family rented the house next door. the new leaf grocery store is close and West cliffs are seen from the living room window. we walked to town(couple of miles walk) I had arranged a dinner for everyone at the Paradox hotel which was excellent. We also ate at Cafe Gabriella. Our dinner was great! The Verve has fabulous coffee. Bantam restaurant is casual and has great food!
