LOST RIVER, WV (2 hours from DC, 2.5 – 3.5 hours from Baltimore and Richmond, and 5 hours from Philadelphia). Lost River, West Virginia is situated between the George Washington National Forest, the Lost River State Park, and miles upon miles of pastoral country roads and farmsteads.
Luxurious cabin in the Mountains, minutes from the Lost River community hub (Lost River Artisans Co-op, Lost River General Store, Lost River Yoga), restaurants, Trout Pond National Park, and Lost River State Park. This 2-level home has open and spacious entertaining space with views that you will want to share with friends and family. Cooks will stay part of the action with open floor plan, and will love the grill option on the deck.
Wrap-around covered decks and screened porches let you find a special place to catch sun, read a book, or nap. If you want to explore - go hiking, horseback riding, white water rafting, cycling, fishing, antiquing, bird watching at the nearby parks, or on the 5.01 acres. Flyers are available for you to peruse.
Enjoy a glass of your favorite beverage in front of one of the two wood-burning fireplaces - one in the great room and one on the adjoining screened-in porch.
We built an office on property, and hope to have that ready soon for your very own private fitness/yoga studio. You can see it in some of the pictures, it is the smaller building with all of the steps.
Of course we have all the modern day luxuries for your use: central air conditioning and heat, cable TV, laundry facilities, and WiFi.
PLEASE Note: Although our cabin can sleep up to six, the rates quoted are for 1-4 people. There is an extra charge ($35 per person, per night) for the fifth and sixth person.
We are transplants from Washington, DC. We love the community in Lost River, WV and it has become home for us. We are so busy with our new venture - Lost River Trading Post in Wardensville, WV - that we wanted to share our cabin with others so that they can experience the beauty of the Lost River Valley.
Donald Hitchcock and Paul Yandura purchased this cabin in 2008
We had a very busy and stressful life in Washington, DC, and Lost River was an escape for us. Our two day weekends, grew to three day weekends, then to four day weekends. Now we live in West Virginia full time and go back to Washington, DC only when necessary.
We have such a great location and view at our cabin. I like to say we are in the friendliest and coolest neighborhood. It is literally 5 minutes to eat, 5 minutes to yoga, and 5 minutes to ice cream, but feels so far from everything.
It doesn't get any better than this cabin. Beautifully decorated, incredible views, cozy fireplaces...we could have stayed forever. We'll absolutely book this home again.
This was the ideal cabin to stay at for our weekend away in Lost River. The place is beautiful, clean, warm, and inviting. It was definitely as advertised and more. We loved lounging on the porches in the peace and quiet of the place, surrounded by the beautiful views, and it was an ideal spot to spend with friends, cooking meals, playing games, and relaxing for the weekend. The owners were very responsive and friendly and even gave us plenty of tips for what to do in the area. We will absolutely be planning a return trip!
The mountain cabin exceeded our expectations -- very clean, well decorated, beautiful artwork, updated appliances, comfortable beds with high quality linens, privacy, and amazing views all through out the house. We enjoyed lighting up both fireplaces and sitting inside the screened in deck. The location was very private but also accessible to a cafe close by and a few other charming shops. It was truly a dream mountain cabin which left us eager to return again soon. The owners - Donald & Paul, were very helpful especially in having their baker prepare cupcakes for my husband's birthday! (you must visit their shop - The Lost River Trading Post in Wardensville -- about 20 min. from the cabin.) The only recommendation we would have is to get shades for the sliding glass doors in the two main bedrooms. Though we appreciated the magnificent views and sunshine at 6:30am, we were also looking to sleep in a bit. Otherwise we give the cabin 5 stars and can't wait to book it again. Thank you!! Vivian & Hermes (Washington, DC)
This is a true "escape". If you enjoy the finer accommodations when traveling but yet want to get away, then this is your spot! The house was immaculate and Donald and Paul go above and beyond to make sure you have nothing to worry about other then relaxing! My family and I truly enjoyed waking up to the Sunrise coming over the misty mountains and seeing the stars at night. We will be back!
What a beautiful cabin for our family get away. The cabin was perfect for us. The views are spectacular. We have spent many cabin vacations in various states and locations and your cabin, by far, has been the best we have had the pleasure to rent. It was great meeting both of you in person. You guys are awesome.
