Chalet Chimere has been designed to extract the most from the stunning scenery and is spread over 3 levels. At driveway level, the chalet opens into a generous hallway with a bench giving space for guests to get their equipment organised and off this is a drying room for boots, skis and jackets. There is a laundry room and a staircase which leads to the main floor. The living area is open plan and double height with huge windows giving fantastic views. There is a dining table for 6, comfortable seating centred round a log burner, WIFI and satellite TV providing a range of UK channels. Sliding glass doors lead onto a large deck with outdoor dining furniture and a hot tub. Also on this level is a flexible (double or twin) bedroom with glass doors onto the deck, a full shower room and an additional WC. An open staircase then leads to the upper floor which has 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with WC and separate shower. One bedroom is a double and the other is flexible so can be prepared as a twin or a double room. The bedrooms share a balcony with views of Brévent and Plan Praz.

The driveway has parking for 3 cars and equipment can easily be transferred from vehicles to the drying/boot room by the lower door.

Chalet Chimere's location, hot tub, views and garden make it popular all year round. It is a great option for groups who have some members who have organised activities and others who simply want to relax.

* The chalet now has a sauna, TV room and 4th bedroom with ensuite at lower ground floor level, making the capacity 8 people. There is a supplement of 15% of the quoted rate for using the 4th bedroom, which can be made up as either a double or a twin. Please contact us when booking to reserve this room.

Chalet Chimère sits on the private, tree-lined Chemin des Lupins, in a quiet area called les Favrands, to the south west of the town centre. Rue Paccard, the main shopping street in Chamonix, is a pleasant 15 minute walk (1200 metres). The nearest supermarket is Marche U in les Pelerins, 500 metres away. The nearest bars and restaurants are the Jekyll and l'Impossible (600 metres), with many other facilities in Chamonix itself. For access to the slopes, it is recommended that guests have a car for the most flexibility, in this location. The main bus stop is 650 metres away along Route des Pelerins, with a local connecting bus close to the chalet.

Skiing and snowboarding: Chamonix is one of the world's most famous ski areas, having hosted the first Winter Olympics in 1924. Skiers and snowboarders of all levels are well-served in a variety of differing areas around Chamonix, including Brevent, Flegere, the famous Grands Montets and Domaine du Balme. The Mont Blanc pass also covers nearby areas including Les Houches, St Gervais, Megeve, Courmayeur and Les Contamines, all within an easy drive. Slightly further afield, but within an hour's drive are Verbier, La Thuile, Flaine and Les Carroz. Despite its reputation as an area for experts only, there are plenty of green, blue and red runs to satisfy beginners and intermediates alike. For the more experienced, Chamonix has miles and miles of adventurous off-piste, including the famous Vallee Blanche, an 18 km experience from the Aiguille du Midi down to the town.

Summer and the rest of the year: With the draw of Europe's premier natural attraction, Mont Blanc, Chamonix never sleeps. Whether it's simply to soak up the stunning scenery or get the adrenaline pumping, there is plenty for everybody to do all year round. There are a wide variety of marked trails for hiking and trekking; well-maintained bolted routes for rock-climbing; limitless mountaineering opportunities including Mont Blanc itself; an ever-expanding network of mountain bike trails; some of the most consistent thermals for superb paragliding; raging white water rapids for rafting and hydro speeding; canyoning and abseiling down the spectacular valley gorges; golf at the Trent Jones Sr designed 18 hole course in Chamonix, as well as many other top quality courses nearby; the sports centre has an indoor and outdoor 50 m swimming pool and a large grassed sunbathing area, water slides, numerous tennis courts, gym, spa, jacuzzi, the list goes on!

Property Manager: Based in Chamonix since 2004, Mountain Base is a fully registered French business run by Andy, Andie and Matt. We are one of the only British run businesses in Chamonix to hold the Carte Professionnelle (no. 1497/07), which obliges us to maintain a Garantie Financière (cash bond) against which all our clients are financially protected. During the years, we have built up one of the largest rental portfolios in the Valley, from studios to large chalets, from les Houches to le Tour. Our team and partners are the best in the Valley and are here to make sure your stay is an enjoyable, memorable and hassle free experience.

Chalet Chimere 2009

Myself and my girlfriends family took the chalet for a week in mid june, we have used Mountain Base before for winter holiday and have had an excellent time with fantastic service, but the chalet blew us away, the welcome was fantastic, we had a lovely bottle of buubly left for us, and for a small charge had the fridge and press filled with the basics (tea, milk, bread ect). The chalet was just amazing, clean well kept and huge. The garden was large and well kept but the icing on the cake was the hot tub outside which was just brilantly especially when drinking the bubbly. The chalet is a genuine 15 minute walk from the town centre with a great pub (The Jeckle) literally down the road. They can organise, ski passes, equipment and anything else you could possibly think off. There is absolutely nothing I can fault or change with the chalet or Mountain Base. I have used them for the last 4 years and will be using them for many years to come.

Chalet with amazing views of Mont Blanc

If you are looking for a Chalet thats both cosy and spacious with views that will take your breath away this is the place for you. Everything is well organised by Mountain Base with helpful information and they will even sort out your lift passes so that they are waiting for you when you arrive. We enjoy walking in the Alps and some of the best walks are right on the doorstep. The hot tub is a bonus after a long day on the hills and the peaceful surroundings ensure you get a good nights sleep. We had one of our best holidays and will be back soon.

Fantastic Chalet

Fantastic chalet! Amazing views of Mont Blanc range & Boissons Glacier from the huge double height windows, garden & hot tub. Views across to Brevant & Plan Praz from front of the property.

The chalet is very well equipped with washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, plenty of cooking equipment as well as satellite TV, wifi and dvd player to keep everyone entertained. The wine fridge with welcome bottle of wine was a lovely touch. It was great relaxing in the hot tub which was clean & well maintained. The log burner kept the chalet warm and cosy in the evenings.

Great location in a quiet residential area, but easy 15 min walk to the centre of Chamonix and less than 10 min to the main bus stops at Chamonix Sud where the free service takes you to Grand Montets, Argentiere & Le Tour.

We stayed at Chimere in April 2012 and loved it so much we have already booked to return in July next year. We have visited Chamonix several times previously and always booked through Mountain Base. The booking process is always very smooth and efficient, with excellent follow up / meet and greet on site. Always loads of local information provided in the chalet and reps able to answer any questions and provide recommendations.

Fantastic Chalet Chimere

Its hard to find fault with Chalet Chimere. The location is perfect - just far enough outside Cham on a lovely quiet street to be peaceful, but close enough to walk to - less than 15 mins. The layout is fabulous, from the spacious drying/utility rooms conveniently on the ground level to the living area which opens onto a decked terrace with a hot tub and a fabulous garden. We've stayed here in the summer when our 5 year old loved charging around the garden, and in the winter when she built snowmen and igloos in the same area, all with unbelievable views of Aiguille du Midi and Mont Blanc. Everything about the decor is very cool mountain chic - rustic but not shabby, posh but not stuffy. This is a fantastic luxurious place to stay for anyone, but if you're into mountains it's even more special. Highly recommended.

Christmas with the family

We managed to get our far-flung family and grandchildren together for Christmas at Chimere. From cooking the Christmas Dinner itself, to relaxing in the hot-tub with snow all around, to watching the grandchildren learn to Ski, to watching the TV and DVDs around the wood stove - all made a perfect holiday. Everything is provided in the chalet so we were able to relax and enjoy our stay. We originally came in the summer and enjoyed a completely different type of holiday, walking, exploring and going up the cable cars and lifts to see the views and we were determined to return. Chamonix is a lovely quaint village, summer or winter and provides plenty to do. We took the car through the tunnel to Italy too!

Incidently, the company which runs the chalet, is very professional and nothing seems to be too much trouble and they are always on hand to help. Having them organise lift passes and skis ready waiting for us is a boon and some of us managed to ski on the day of arrival.

It was important for us that we could walk to the town centre rather than have to transport the whole family by car - Chimere is ideally placed for this and even coming back late at night is fine, the road is well lit and safe.

A great chalet and the views are just stunning!

Travelling around the Chamonix Valley

Although a car provides additional flexibility, Chamonix has a regular free in-valley bus service. Guests with either a “carte d’hote” or a ski pass can use the buses to move around the valley from Les Houches to Le Tour with stops at all the lift stations. There are also shuttle buses called “les Mulets” which are free and circulate the centre of town.

Getting to Chamonix by car

From France: accessible directly via the Autoroute Blanche (A40), which connects to the European motorway network.

Geneva Airport is approx 100km from Chamonix. Cost in tolls is about €6 for a normal car, all major credit cards are accepted 24/7. Don’t get money from the airport – Swiss Francs are not acceptable!

From Switzerland: Motorway to Martigny, then Col de la Forclaz, Col des Montets. Martigny is approximately 50km from Chamonix.

From Italy: Motorway to the Mont-Blanc tunnel near Courmayeur. Chamonix is 15km from the Italian border via Mont-Blanc Tunnel.

By Train

There is a SNCF railway station in Chamonix. It is serviced by the TER regional train. There are TGV high-speed mainline train connections from St Gervais-le Fayet railway station, just 20km away.

The Mont Blanc Express: This SNCF railway line serves all villages from St Gervais-le Fayet to Martigny (Switzerland) via Servoz, Les Houches, Chamonix, Argentière and Vallorcine.

By Bus/Mini Bus

There are coach services through SAT who provides daily connections with Geneva and Italy.

There are many transfer companies in Chamonix who run mini buses to and from Airports. You can either book a private or a shared transfer. ?
