About Pauline Cameron
We retired in 2007 and moved to Whitby from Kent. The cottage included a field so we bought 5 alpacas to eat the grass. Alpacas appear to be addictive creatures and we got carried away and now have 20 alpacas and have had to rent more land down the road. We use the fleece to make yarn both handspun and machine spun which is available for sale. We enjoyed meeting all the guests in Grain Cottage so when it went on sale we decide to buy it and continue to let it as a holiday cottage. After refurbishment we opened for business in July 2016.
Pauline Cameron purchased this Cottage in 2015
Why Pauline Cameron chose Scarborough District
We live in WheelHouse Cottage which is next door to Grain so when it came up for sale we bought it and continued letting it to holidaymakers.

Tidy, well kept, home from home.
The property is set in an idyllic location, not far from a beach, next to open fields, where if you are lucky, you'll spot a wild deer. The property is clean, well presented, with a front garden that is fenced off, perfect if you bring small children or pets. To the right of the cottage, is where Pauline lives, together with her husband and 2 dogs. All are very friendly and approachable. There are chickens and Alpacas in the field next to he cottages, where Pauline is happy to show you around and let you help her feed them.
Sandsend is about 20 minutes walk away, with an array of little shops and cafes. If taking a pet on the beach, look for the sign which signals that you aren't allowed past a certain point. We missed it the first time, but spotted it the second. All the cafes we went to were dog friendly, which is a bonus.
There is a parking disc which can be found on the table, this is for parking in specific areas for three hours in Whitby, otherwise, parking can be expensive.
The only negative element to our stay was the next door neighbour, just don't use his parking spaces in order to turn your car round in. Best to pull up to the row of cottages, then reverse into your designated parking area. That way, you can simply drive out without worrying about reversing onto a country road.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone nor staying in it again if we visit the area again in the future.
Wonderful property and great place to stay!
Grain Cottage has everything you need and more to ensure you have a good stay in the Whitby area. The friendly owners provide so many extra 'touches' and are available next door if required. The location is ideal for access to Whitby, Sandsend and other coastal/moorland areas. We particularly enjoyed walking to Whitby and Sandsend. Grain Cottage is such a homely place to return to at the end of the day. Everything was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We highly recommend Grain Cottage to anyone wanting a peaceful stay but with easy access to amenities.
Well stocked cottage. Good location for services and places of interest.
Good accommodation in perfect location.
Fabulous family (incl four legged) cottage
Another wonderful week in lovely Grain Cottage. Pauline and Bob are welcoming and generous hosts. We arrived to fresh flowers, their own free range eggs, milk plus tea and coffee. The cottage is very well equipped and has lots of little touches which make it a real home from home. Of course there is the added bonus of being next door to Wheelhouse Alpacas which is brilliant, especially for children. The garden is great if you have dogs. It is fully enclosed and is accessible directly from the front door. There is ample parking and lovely walks immediately from the cottage. Newholm lies between Whitby and Sandsend and is a great location if you want to be in the countryside with the seaside on your doorstep.
A lovely cottage, with everything you could need. The kids loved the Alpacas. Great weekend . Thank you Pauline
6 of us recently stayed in this lovely clean cottage, the location is ideal, close enough to walk into Whitby (around an hour) along the coastal path after walking down the lane, and still close enough to the lovely Sandsend.
Pauline is really friendly and took us and the children down to feed the Alpacas which was great for them. I also need to mention the eggs you receive on arrival from the free range chickens, perfect way to start the day!
Cottage is clean, cosy and beds are nice.
We'll be returning
